The episode's plot centers on the discovery of gold near the quiet cattle town of Twin Rivers, which quickly transforms the area into a chaotic gold-rush town. Hopalong Cassidy is called in to investigate the suspicious deaths of two partners of an old prospector named Bummer Lowe, whom Red Connors and others had provided with grubstake (supplies/funding for prospecting). Bummer himself is found ailing and unresponsive, creating a mystery around who is behind the killings and seeking to profit from the gold discovery. Hoppy must sort through the new friends and enemies Bummer has acquired to find the culprits.

00:00Here he comes, here he comes, there's the trumpets, there's the drums, here he comes,
00:10Hopalong Cassidy, here he comes.
00:30For years, Twin Rivers was a quiet cattle town.
00:34Then suddenly, the peaceful existence changed with the discovery of gold near our community.
00:40The prospects of easy, sudden wealth attracted an influx of new citizens.
00:45Unfortunately, we had to welcome the bad along with the good.
00:48My job as sheriff became more difficult than Hassan.
00:52Most of the disturbances were caused by Buck Fane's gambling table.
00:56I could never prove Fane's games were crooked, but fights were inevitable and frequent.
01:14Break it up!
01:15What's the matter with you?
01:19All right, what is it this time, Fane?
01:21The usual thing.
01:23His luck ran out and he accused me of running a crooked game.
01:25I said that was enough!
01:28He caused considerable damage.
01:30Lock him up.
01:31I'll prefer charges.
01:34All right, come on.
01:35I was reluctant to lock up this fellow, but according to the law, I couldn't do anything else.
01:55Be more careful in the future.
01:57All these miners aren't stupid.
01:59Get back to your table.
01:59Looks like Bummer's lost another partner.
02:14Come on.
02:14All right.
02:14Come on.
02:29All right.
02:40Come on.
02:41hiya man frankie what happened i don't know somebody shot him in the back when we was

04:52they were dan warner the blacksmith red and three miners jack smith frank king and trem hardy
04:59dan said he didn't have any idea what was going on

06:27the doctor hadn't seen bummer for over fifteen years i gathered from their conversation that
06:48because this boy was his namesake and his father was dead bummer had decided to set his nephew up in
06:54business and open an office for him i didn't like to disillusion dr low about his uncle but i had
07:00to explain what had started out to be a prank with the boys around town making bummer go to work
07:05had turned into a serious matter i'd drawn up a partnership agreement which all of them signed
07:10they were to share equally six ways naturally with the elimination of two men those left would get
07:18a bigger share mr cassidy uncle sheldon wouldn't kill anybody i'm sure of that i passed by the claim
07:24on my way into town i don't know much about mining but it didn't look very prosperous to me

08:05you're badly mistaken just a minute doctor nobody's accusing you of anything your insinuations are

14:26you better get out of here

16:36Bummer. How are you, Hoppy? How do you feel? Terrible. Dizzy, and I got pains in my stomach.
16:45Well, what does Sheldon say about it? Oh, well, he sent me over some new medicine over there.
16:51But that's not what I want to talk to you about, Hoppy. Hoppy, I got a confession to make to you.
16:58I've been in love with Mrs. Turner for a long time, but I never had nerve enough to speak to her about
17:04it until now. Well, you know, now that I've got a little money, why, I guess I just popped
17:10the question. And she said yes. Yeah, and she sure made me happy, too. Holly, I want you
17:21to read this. It's my will. I wish you'd fix it up sort of legal-like so that if anything
17:29happens to me before we're married, Mrs. Turner and Sheldon will split what I leave.
17:33Oh, nothing's going to happen to you. You'll be up and around in no time. But I do think
17:39for your own protection that maybe you should give me power of attorney. What's that? Well,
17:44that's a legal form of letter that means that you can't sell or transfer or even give away
17:48your gold without my consent. Oh, I see. Sure, Hoppy, you go ahead and fix it up. That's fine.
17:55This is the new medicine, huh? Isn't that awful-smelling stuff? It certainly is. Yeah, and after
18:04I take that vile-tasting stuff, I feel worse than I did before. Well, then there's no reason
18:09for taking it. I'll get you some stuff that doesn't taste quite so bad. Oh, thanks, Hoppy.
18:13Hoppy, you're a real friend. I'll be back in a little while with some new medicine. You
18:18take it easy. Hoppy, Hoppy, don't hurry. Why, Mr. Kirstie, I didn't know you were here. I
18:32was in visiting with Bummer. Is the doctor in? Well, he was a few minutes ago, I'll see.
18:36Land sakes, I never had so much to do. Since poor Sheldon got sick, it's just been one thing
18:41after the other. Did you want to see me, Mr. Cassidy? Yes. I'm taking Bummer's medicine
18:46away from him. For goodness sake, why? You have no right to do that. I have every right.
18:51And as sheriff, I'm ordering you not to prescribe to your uncle. I'm having Dr. Kramer come in
18:55and take a look at him. That's a direct insult. I'm a doctor, Mr. Cassidy, and what you're
19:00doing is contrary to professional ethics. Well, I'm not a doctor, so I don't have to
19:04be concerned with professional ethics. All right. You are the law on Twin Rivers, and I'll
19:09have to abide by what you say. But I won't be responsible for the results. Let me worry
19:14about that, will you? Land sakes, I never saw such goings on. You don't think there's anything
19:21really wrong with that medicine, do you, Mr. Cassidy? Well, I don't know, but there's no sense
19:25taking any chances. Well, I'll get rid of it for you. I'll see you later, Mr.
19:28Tucker. Well, I always say the law is the law. I know about you having the power of attorney,
19:47Cassidy, and I'm willing to pay a good price to buy into Bummer's claim. Aren't you satisfied
19:52with your own business? Yes, but I'd like to get in on a good thing. I'm sure you would.
20:00But I think for the time being, we'll let things stand just as they are. There's something else
20:04you might give some thought to. You go in with Bummer, your life might be in danger. I'm willing
20:10to take my chances on that score. Change your tune, eh, Finn? I'm making a legitimate offer.
20:16Well, I am sure you are. I even asked the doctor to speak to the old man about it. You
20:22can ask him. I will. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have some work to do.
20:26Did you see him looking at that medicine bottle? Yeah. I'll bet there's poison in there
20:42and he's in cahoots with the doctor. Well, I'm glad you got it triggered out because I
20:46haven't. Where are you going? I want to get something to eat. I missed my supper with all
20:50this paperwork. I haven't had anything to eat either. You mean in the last 30 minutes. I want
20:55you to stay here and watch the office. I'm expecting callers. Well, say, I just thought
21:00of something. Isn't it dangerous to leave old Bummer unprotected if somebody's trying
21:04to kill him? Bummer is perfectly all right so long as that power of attorney paper is
21:08locked up. That brings up another thought. They might try to get you. I hope they let me
21:12get my supper first. I'll bring you back a sandwich. You better make it two. Maybe three.
21:25Bye-bye.
21:38Bye-bye.
21:45Hi.
21:53THE END
22:23THE END
22:53What's the matter? You so poor you can't buy your own medicine?
22:57Give me that bottle. I'm gonna lock you up. Get in there.
22:59Hold it, Red.
23:04Drop your gun on the floor.
23:07Give me that bottle.
23:08Now open that safe. I want that power of attorney paper.
23:15I can't. I don't know the combination.
23:18You're lying. Open the safe.
23:20I said I can't.
23:22You better give me that gun.
23:25One?
23:25Wait just a minute, Mrs. Turner.
23:27I only agreed to steal that bottle of medicine for you.
23:29I don't want to be part of a murder.
23:31Two?
23:31Who?
23:33Mrs. Turner.
23:34I always say that one man's medicine is another man's poison.
23:39All right, Red. Lock her up.
23:43Right this way, ma'am.
23:44Mrs. Turner confessed she'd killed Smith and King,
23:54had tried to kill Red at the diggings,
23:56and had slowly been poisoning Bummer.
23:58Guess she figured she'd rather inherit his share than marry him.
24:01The remaining partners decided to work the diggings with Bummer.
24:08The old fellow had more ambition and a willingness to work than any of them.
24:11Come on.
24:14Come on.
24:15I'll be right back.
24:16I'll be right back.
24:18Come on.
24:19Come on.
24:21Come on.
24:22Come on.
24:31Hi there, my little friends.
24:38If you were playing baseball,
24:40and the baseball was knocked across a railroad track,
24:44I'm pretty sure when you got to that railroad track,
24:47you'd stop, look, and listen, wouldn't you?
24:51Now, please remember that any street in America
24:54is just as dangerous as that railroad.
24:58So when you get to the curbstone,
25:00stop, look, and listen.
25:05Will you do that for me?
25:07Now, so long until next week.
25:10And in the meantime,
25:12don't forget to go to Sunday school.
25:16There he goes, upon his way,
25:19down the moon that trails where cowboys rain.
25:25Hop along, Cassidy.
25:27Hop along, Cassidy.
