00:00Nothing holly and jolly about yesterday, Keith.
00:04No.
00:05Pretty much Bah humbug.
00:07I mean, unless you ask Vrabel, he's like,
00:08that's a great learning opportunity for us.
00:11Which, I don't know, you can learn in losses.
00:13Although he also had a good line earlier in the season
00:15where you can also learn and win, but that's even better.
00:18And so it's just, what's Vrabel supposed to say there?
00:20Fair counterpoint.
00:21I already see the Twitch chat doing it.
00:23Like, ah, Jones, what do you want him to say?
00:25And I think he's done a pretty good job of what he says
00:28to the guys in the locker room.
00:30It's what he says to the media, which is what he says to Greg,
00:33which is then what the players turn around and say
00:35all week after that.
00:36And I do think that's been, you know,
00:39tight messaging from the Patriots all year long.
00:40And I do give him credit for that.
00:42Yeah.
00:42I just personally, after a loss, like,
00:44I don't want to hear about learning opportunities.
00:46Yeah.
00:47I don't know.
00:48I know.
00:48I don't know what you can learn from yesterday.
00:50That second half was such a disaster.
00:52You couldn't get stops.
00:53There's a lot to learn.
00:54You couldn't do anything on offense outside of one broken play.
00:57And so, yeah, I don't, I don't think they needed any of that.
01:01I don't think they needed their comeuppance to learn.
01:03I didn't think.
01:04No, but I feel like Mike Vrabel, at least to this point,
01:07has built up like enough trust and sort of goodwill.
01:11We're like, all right, his approach has worked.
01:13You and I would have cut pop Douglas after he didn't pick up the first down.
01:17We would have benched from Andre Stevenson, like all these different things.
01:20And so he has gone about it in a certain way where most everything he's done
01:24has been the right answer.
01:27Right.
01:27And so they've only lost three games all season.
01:29So as far as like, how does he react?
01:31And what is his messaging after a loss?
01:33It's only happened a few times, but he has had his team ready to play.
01:37It seems like every single week.
01:39And even if there was a little bit of a letdown, say against Cincinnati,
01:42are they still overcame that and won the game?
01:45This is a harder one to sort of slice up because you were ready.
01:49You were more than ready to start the game.
01:51You were awesome to start the game.
01:53That first drive.
01:54Yeah, as I'm saying, you were great.
01:55That first drive was incredible.
01:56Yeah, but that was like, that was a holy crap.
01:59They came to play.
02:00The division is ours.
02:02Look out, AFC.
02:03Look out, NFL.
02:04That's what that drive was to start the game.
02:06And then the second half took place.
02:08And there were like early signs of it.
02:10There was a little foreshadowing on that last drive that the Bills had.
02:13But then you let that whole lead slip away.
02:15And so like, I'll give Rabel the benefit of the doubt right now for how he wants to
02:19handle this and where this is going to go.
02:21Just because he has sort of had the minus touch so far.
02:23It might work.
02:24Yeah.
02:24I just, I don't, I don't know.
02:26I don't, that's a, that's a, that's a loser's attitude to come in and be like,
02:29that's a good learning opportunity.
02:30It's like, is it a week ago?
02:31They were the champions, right?
02:32These are the champions mentality is this.
02:34It's like, all right.
02:34So it's just, I don't know.
02:36Uh, I guess, uh, aesthetically, I don't really have a taste for that yesterday, but
02:39you're right.
02:40Rabel probably deserves the benefit of the doubt with how he's handled the team.
02:43We were talking about this earlier.
02:45It's a, it's a spinoff from what Greg was talking about this morning.
02:48Um, you know, they were dabbling in the, the fool's gold comments from Cam Newton, which
02:52I think sidetracked them.
02:53But the, the genesis of that debate is, do you feel any differently about the Patriots
02:58yesterday?
02:59And so if I asked you, Keith, can the Patriots beat the bills in a third game in a, in a
03:03rematch in the post season, can the Patriots beat the bills in that scenario?
03:06You would say, yes, they can.
03:08Me too.
03:09Yes, they can.
03:09I think they could win that game.
03:10I think they could.
03:11Of course they can.
03:11Do I feel worse about their chances after yesterday than I did going into the game?
03:15Yes.
03:16My answer would also be yes.
03:17Because I've never understood the, it's really hard to beat a team three times.
03:20No, I don't, I don't subscribe to that.
03:22Had they beaten them yesterday, I would have felt great about beating them the third time.
03:26Now it's a push and it'd be great if they did play again, right?
03:29You know, like a rubber match.
03:31Like I'm all, I'm all for that, but I don't know how you can watch the bills score touchdowns
03:36on five consecutive drives in a game and then say, yeah, I feel the same.
03:40They didn't score five touchdowns in the first matchup against them, let alone five straight.
03:45So yeah, I definitely feel a little bit differently.
03:47And you know what?
03:48If the Patriots are healthier in the, in the third potential game, then great.
03:54That, that'd give me even more reason to pick them.
03:56If they're not.
03:56All right.
03:57This was still only a four point game.
03:58So like these teams are, are, are pretty even.
04:01I mean, what seven total points has separated these two teams.
04:05Well, no one total point, right?
04:06Cause four up for the bills, three up for the pats are really one point difference.
04:09Like you're down one.
04:10So they're super close, these two teams.
04:12So that's fine.
04:13So, but I would also say if you're on the other side and if you're the Buffalo bills and you
04:17said, Hey, if you had to play the Patriots a third time, how do you feel a lot better
04:21now than they would have, you know, six quarters into the, to the, the matchups against each
04:26other.
04:26Uh, Ken sent these graphics from ESPN or these numbers from ESPN, uh, the pats, uh, if they
04:32do win the AFCs, they're winning the AFCs.
04:35I think so too.
04:35Yeah.
04:35I mean, it would have to be a real bottom falling out situation for that not to happen.
04:39They would have to lose two more games.
04:40Yeah.
04:41Well, here's the numbers.
04:43Uh, they most likely playoff opponent for the pats is the bills at 24%.
04:47I'd rather play somebody else.
04:50I think they can beat them.
04:51And next, next most are chargers, 23% Jags, 17% Texans, 14%.
04:56I'd want the chargers out of that group.
04:57So I don't know why the numbers are the way that they are.
05:00So the Patriots are currently the two seed.
05:03We'll get into the Broncos and a massive win for them and everything else.
05:06But so they're the currently the two seeds.
05:07So they would open up against the seven seed in the AFC.
05:11I feel like with three games to go, the bills have two very winnable games.
05:16And I also like them against the Eagles.
05:18So if they went out or even drop one, I feel like they're not going to be the seven seed,
05:23right?
05:24Like the pats have a better chance of being the two seed than really anything else.
05:26I think the bills won't be the seven seed, but continue.
05:29So again, the charges are right behind them.
05:31Then Jags and Texans, the Patriots actually have a 14% chance of traveling to the AFC North
05:35winner as the five seed.
05:37Like if the bat's not happening.
05:38Okay.
05:38But that may be, that may not be the worst path.
05:42If you want for the Patriots, you have to go on the road, but it's maybe Pittsburgh or
05:45Baltimore.
05:45But the reason why that would be a bad path, it's not the opponent.
05:48You have a better chance of winning that first round game, but it would be what the hell
05:51happened to you?
05:51Why did you lose three out of four games?
05:53You're trending in the wrong direction.
05:54Then the next week you're going to Denver.
05:56Also that you'd be going to Denver on division.
05:59Unless there's an upset, right?
06:01Like, so you might not be going to Denver because they re-seed.
06:03That's true.
06:04That's a good point.
06:04So like if there's an upset behind you, they could re-seed and it could work out.
06:07I feel like if, if, if you're not the two seed and let's say Houston is down there,
06:11like it's the six or the seven, then they win, then they might jump ahead of you, but
06:14either way.
06:15Yeah.
06:16Well, that's looking at some of the playoff scenarios based on yesterday's result.
06:20Buffalo is able to return the favor after the Patriots beat them earlier this year in
06:25Buffalo.
06:2535-31 was the result yesterday.
06:28Rough second half for the Patriots.
06:30We're talking about it here on a Patriots Monday on Jones and Keefe.
06:33And we're joined every Monday by Patriots tight end Hunter Henry.
06:35He's brought to you by drains by James Eastern masses, top provider of drain and sewer cleaning
06:40and repair by Shaw's and star market.
06:42You can look for the new lower prices, every day tags throughout the store and save on the
06:46items that you buy most and by Verizon, the new England Patriots powered by Verizon 5G
06:51Hunter Henry.
06:51How are we doing this week?
06:54I'm doing all right.
06:55Pretty simple question that we've been wondering.
06:58What happened in the second half yesterday compared to the first?
07:04Yeah, just didn't come out to play, man.
07:07Just not good enough all around.
07:10You know, I think we just all got to look at ourselves in the mirror and we do.
07:14You know, that's a really good football team over there.
07:15They did a lot of good things.
07:16Got to give them a lot of credit.
07:17We did it.
07:21And so we got to make more plays and be able to execute in crucial situations.
07:25And yeah, it just wasn't good enough, man.
07:29Obviously, you love to start.
07:31Just we got to finish and find a way.
07:35Yeah.
07:35Is there any part of, you know, being up 24-7 at the half and really could not have been
07:39a better first half than it was?
07:41Is it even a little human nature to take your foot off the gas just a little bit?
07:48No, you know, I just, gosh, we only got the ball really twice in the third quarter.
07:53You know, they controlled the ball really well.
07:55I can speak offensively.
07:57You know, we weren't able to execute to sustain drives and just didn't, you know, weren't good
08:04on third down and just some crucial things.
08:07And, you know, just weren't able to come out with a win.
08:10And, you know, it sucks.
08:12And it hurts today for sure.
08:15It hurt yesterday.
08:16And, you know, it's something we're going to have to learn from and learn from fast.
08:19It had been 10 straight wins.
08:21It was 83 days or whatever it was since the last loss week three against Pittsburgh.
08:26How do you balance the feelings from a loss like yesterday with how you guys have been
08:31playing going into that?
08:32How do you square those two away?
08:33Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, we've been, you know, winning 10 straight is really hard
08:41in this league.
08:43No matter who you play or what you do, it's really, really hard to, you know, stretch one
08:47that long.
08:49And, you know, we felt good about how we played in a lot of areas yesterday.
08:53We've just got to clean up some things and just be better and finish.
08:58You know, we're right there.
08:59That's a really, really good football team.
09:01And, you know, they were able to come out with a win yesterday.
09:04And it's just something we've got to learn from.
09:06And we've got to learn from fast.
09:07And, you know, that's what we're going to do today is just get better so that we can
09:11go attack, you know, the Ravens this weekend.
09:13You know, is there any part of you guys offensively in that second half when you take the field
09:17after Buffalo scored their second touchdown?
09:20And then you take the field again after their third touchdown.
09:23Do you guys start to put a little bit more pressure on yourself?
09:25Do you tighten up a little bit because you see the way the game is going?
09:31I wouldn't say you tighten up, man.
09:32We just knew we had to make, you know, we had to execute and we had to make a play.
09:36And we had to, you know, put points on the board.
09:40That's all we're worried about.
09:41We're not worried about all the other exterior and all that stuff.
09:44We just go back to what we do.
09:46And we had to find a way to, you know, put more points on the board than they do.
09:51One positive yesterday, in the second half anyway, was Travion Henderson's long touchdown
09:55run where he was able to reverse field and get out, beat defenders down the field.
09:59We saw Drake May out in front going 20-plus miles an hour, according to NextGenStats.
10:05What did that play say about Drake May and your offense in general kind of willing to help
10:10one another out and not die on the play?
10:12Yeah, I mean, Drake's the ultimate competitor, man.
10:17He loves competing and just whatever he can do to, you know, it just ended up working out
10:23that way to where he was kind of leading and pretty cool to see him give that kind of effort.
10:28Okay.
10:29Patriots had one 10 in a row.
10:31Good vibes, of course, up until the game yesterday.
10:34But it is still time for the Hunter Henry Surprise Question of the Week.
10:38It's time for the Hunter Henry Surprise.
10:43Henry, touchdown.
10:45Whoa.
10:46Surprise, Sidney.
10:48Hey, surprise.
10:49Surprise, mother******.
10:50Surprise.
10:51Surprise.
10:52We wasted the good surprise on you.
10:54Y'all digging for the surprise in the day, huh?
10:56Question of the Week.
10:57All right.
10:59Once again, on a scale of 1 to 85, 85 being the most surprised you've ever been, 1 being
11:03you weren't surprised at all.
11:05Hunter, how surprised were you when in the film Home Alone, Kevin McAllister's mother,
11:11Kate McAllister, didn't realize she had left her son behind until she was midway through
11:16her first class flight to Paris?
11:18Uh, I'd probably say, uh, right, 70.
11:28I was surprised.
11:30And that was the Hunter Henry Surprise Question of the Week.
11:34It was surprising.
11:35I mean, at least they found out at some point on the flight.
11:37They do have a lot of kids.
11:38They didn't.
11:38They do have a lot of kids.
11:39It's not like they touched down in Paris and then found out.
11:41So, okay.
11:42Well, Hunter Henry, as always, we appreciate the time.
11:45We will talk to you next Patriots Monday.
11:46All right, guys.
11:49Appreciate it.
11:50Hunter Henry joining us here every Patriots Monday on Jones and Keith.
11:55That certainly was a surprising situation.
11:57That was surprising.
11:58They were going back and forth.
11:59They didn't realize what it was.
12:01The husband thought maybe it was the garage door that they had left open.
12:05He's like, yep, that was it.
12:06And then they're like, oh, no, wait a minute.
12:08It was, in fact, Kevin.
12:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
12:11Well, the neighbor kid came over.
12:12He screwed everything.
12:12He screwed the count up.
12:14Yeah.
12:14He screwed the count up.
12:14Bring me back something French.
12:16They lost power, which knocked out all of the.
12:19He's got four-wheel drive.
12:20Yeah.
12:21Knocked out all of the power in the home.
12:24Although, with that many kids in the house, how did they even sleep in in the first place?
12:28Really?
12:28Phillip Rivers has never left a kid behind.
12:30With all the old people in the house, how do they sleep in until eight?
12:32I was going to say, nobody's sleeping in that.
12:34The kids, the old people, everybody's up.
12:36Especially when you know you have a flight, like your mental alarm.
12:39Everybody would have been walking around like 5 a.m.
12:40It's a bit of a plot hole, is what it is.
12:42Yeah, a big plot hole, for sure.
12:43But there you go.
12:44Hunter Henry and the Patriots yesterday got to learn from this.
12:47Seems to be the familiar refrain from Vrabel on down.
12:50They have the Ravens on Sunday Night Football, so they're going to have to get back at it.
