00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best times a series regular
00:08elevated, repaired, and or saved a sketch from bombing.
00:18You can make an argument that Amy Poehler is one of the best of her generation.
00:25I did just want to take a moment to thank everybody. This is my last show, and it has been an amazing experience to be here.
00:35Being able to do over 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true.
00:42Her farewell was both emotional and surprisingly entertaining.
00:46Just before she starts to cry, Fred Armisen steps in as Governor David Patterson.
00:50Get about $50 worth of circus tickets.
00:54Governor.
00:55Governor Patterson.
00:56Yeah.
00:57Governor Patterson.
00:58Governor Patterson.
00:58Yeah.
00:58Governor Patterson.
00:59Armisen's funny impression is a nice way of helping Poehler through her closing address.
01:04You could argue that he's interrupting the performer, but it's all part of the plan.
01:08With that in mind, you could call this one of the better farewells in SNL history for shifting expectations.
01:14No, just, just, there you go, just stop right there.
01:17That's good, that's good.
01:19Great, no, just move, there we go.
01:20I'm sorry?
01:20You're good where you are.
01:22You're good where you are.
01:23Wonderful show.
01:24Armisen is able to step in front of the camera and make his scene partner laugh in her closing
01:30update segment.
01:34Number 9, James Austin Johnson, Family Meeting.
01:38Look, the truth is we had a hard time figuring out how to break the news.
01:42That's what the song is for.
01:43The song?
01:44I'm sure you all have a lot of questions, but don't worry, the song will explain everything.
01:48You might know this cast member as a Trump impersonator.
01:51Hi, hello, it's me, your favorite president and perhaps your next pope.
01:55But he has even more tools in his belt.
01:58This includes a shockingly good singing voice.
02:00For this sketch, James Austin Johnson sings in the style of someone like Michael McDonald.
02:05The family meeting goes over well as Johnson performs in the style of a Doobie Brothers record.
02:10We've been drifted apart from one another.
02:15Even though we still love each other.
02:19You might be completely surprised watching this unofficial Yacht Rock tribute turn into
02:23something more.
02:24We can only hope that he saves more sketches like this in the future.
02:27Next to talented people like Ego Wodum and Travis Kelsey, the performer shines bright and
02:32makes you want to start it over again.
02:34And I'll watch from the corner.
02:40Number 8.
02:41Kenan Thompson, Jail Cell Mate.
02:44You don't come in here with your filth and your foul, foul filth.
02:52You need to get a job.
02:54There's a reason he's the longest running cast member in SNL history.
02:58Kenan Thompson always delivers.
03:01Often saving sketches that might otherwise be duds.
03:03Wow, so you really eat huge hoagies?
03:06Well, not anymore.
03:08They put me in jail for loving salty foods.
03:11That's not why you're in jail.
03:13And now everybody on TV is the burping and saying the flip off and flip you.
03:19Quick!
03:20I dug a hoagie tunnel behind this poster of Dizzy Galesta.
03:23This particular scene involves some controversial subject matter and an infamous man to impersonate.
03:29Thompson accepts the role as Bill Cosby, taking a swing at the man's troubled past with dark humor.
03:35He's able to do a hilarious impression of the disgraced comic with help from Seth Meyers.
03:39I'm busting out.
03:41I got Woody Allen to drive the getaway car.
03:45Between the two of us, we got one working eyeball.
03:48Give me some skin.
03:50No.
03:50While the late-night host does fine work, his scene partner is a seasoned actor that elevates the material.
03:56This involves some fantastic moments with a few props.
03:59With his impersonation, the sketch performer creates a worthy reason to watch the sketch back.
04:04Number 7.
04:05Jay Farrow.
04:06Regis Philbin auditions.
04:08Next is someone who's looking to move to television, Denzel Washington.
04:13During the sketch, everybody sits next to Nassim Pedrad's Kelly Ripa and does a quick routine.
04:19Kelly, you little cutie patootie!
04:24Jay Farrow steps up to do Denzel Washington, bringing down the house with his accurate impersonation.
04:30What's going on?
04:31So, Denzel, are you excited for the Twilight finale?
04:35Am I excited for the Twilight finale?
04:38Have you read the books?
04:39She's asking, have I read the books?
04:42The uncanny performance follows the same kind of attitude Washington brings to a film like Training Day.
04:48By just repeating dialogue, the performer is able to work wonders and turn this into an awesome talent showcase.
04:54Farrow didn't always get to do impressions, but he always came through with his vocal abilities.
04:58He is far and away the best performer of this scene, and should have been given even more lines.
05:03Are you just going to repeat whatever I say?
05:07All right.
05:08Number 6.
05:10Dana Carvey.
05:11Derek Stephens audition.
05:12Hello, Michael.
05:13Welcome to L.A.
05:17Private joke.
05:18The 1985 season of SNL didn't inspire confidence, prompting some major changes to the cast.
05:24Dana Carvey immediately revealed his talents in the following season with funny characters.
05:29This includes Derek Stephens, a singer that likes to talk about broccoli.
05:32She bought some broccoli.
05:36She brought it home.
05:39She's chopping broccoli.
05:41In front of Phil Hartman and Sigourney Weaver, Carvey plays an outrageous character.
05:47It's incredible to watch him do a role that makes him seem like a veteran.
05:50The comedy legend lets loose here with his musical stylings.
05:53Without him in this part, the sketch might have died altogether.
05:56This is called going to the club.
06:00Going to the club, gotta work out, work out.
06:03Going to the club, gotta work out, work out.
06:08Well, that's what I've got now, and I'm writing every day, and that's what I feel good about.
06:12I'm right back on a horsey.
06:13It takes a true performer to be able to play the piano, sing, and deliver some funny lyrics with the perfect inflection.
06:20Number 5.
06:32Chris Farley, Chippendales.
06:34With so many iconic sketches during his tenure, Chris Farley could be considered the savior of almost everyone.
06:52Look at me go here!
06:56The Chippendales sketch completely revolves around his charisma and physical comedy.
07:00We can't imagine this sketch without him, with the performer tearing it up to a killer soundtrack.
07:06Everybody else has to play the straight man, but Farley ends up being the true wild man here.
07:17With his raw moves and attitude, the comedian delivers a star-making performance.
07:22If you didn't know him before this sketch, you certainly can't forget him afterward.
07:26This scene probably wouldn't work at all without his genius.
07:29He is one hell of a dancer, you know, and he has got the sexiest moves I have ever seen.
07:35And if you're really serious about going with me, it can only be because his body is so bad.
07:41Thanks, man.
07:42Sure.
07:42Number 4.
07:43Tim Meadows.
07:44Dr. Beeman's Office Test Results.
07:46I'm Dr. Steven Poop.
07:48I'm sorry, there's absolutely nothing I can do for your son, but I can do the robot.
07:54Fans of the show's early 2000s run might be aware of this chaotic sketch.
08:02At any moment, it feels like it'll come crashing down with a bizarre script.
08:05What the hell was that?
08:07When things start to slow down, Tim Meadows shows up as a doctor of sorts.
08:12His ridiculous name and dance crack up Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell, energizing the sketch once more.
08:17That'll be $5,000.
08:19Meadows is something of an underrated cast member, and his tenure is further justified with these moments.
08:25He's a clutch performer who's able to come into a sketch, leave everybody in stitches, and make his exit.
08:31The performer also shows that he's an essential part of the cast with his hilarious acting.
08:35Good day to you both.
08:36What's up, everybody?
08:46Alright, so I'm just gonna come out and say it.
08:48They should let me do the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
08:51If you've watched Ego Wodum on the show, you know that she always gave her parts full dedication.
08:56The same could be said for her character here.
08:59Call me please, baby, cause I'm about to snap, sucker.
09:04Ego, what is this voice?
09:05They talking about they serving me some seared Alaskan halibut.
09:15So I said, halibut, you throw that mess in the trash, sucker.
09:18When the stand-up asks for audience participation, she couldn't have imagined the response.
09:23This Miss Eggie, and Miss Eggie done what?
09:27That's right.
09:28How y'all know?
09:29What?
09:30The crowd gets censored for swearing, and Miss Eggie steps into Course Correct.
09:34Wodum knows how to keep going, soothe the crowd, and play the moment for laughs.
09:39Her improvisational skills are especially noticeable here.
09:43The performer proves that she doesn't need a script to be funny,
09:45rolling with the punches and helping to make this one a future classic.
09:49Cause these men ain't what?
09:55You better get fired back!
09:58Number 2.
09:59Gilda Radner.
10:00Extremely Stupid.
10:01Gee, this milk isn't too good.
10:04I'm still thirsty.
10:06Well, that's because you poured it in your purse, you see.
10:08Oh!
10:10You're not too bright, are you, Fern?
10:13I mean, whatever your name was.
10:16Back in the early days of SNL, Gilda Radner stood out as one of the show's brightest stars.
10:21She also went toe-to-toe with her fair share of co-stars.
10:24This iconic sketch follows the cast member's work opposite Candace Bergen.
10:28While the latter is supposed to be a smarter role,
10:31Radner's character powers through despite a name mix-up.
10:34This makes the subsequent dialogue even funnier,
10:36as Bergen realizes the extent of her mistake.
10:38Lisa!
10:40As a matter of fact, you're extremely stupid.
10:44Well, you're right, Fern.
10:46You know, and I'm proud of it.
10:49You know, we all can't be brainy like Fern here.
10:55Radner is more than capable of taking over,
10:58emphasizing the comedy even more.
11:00Both actresses look like they're having fun,
11:02and ultimately, the comedian outshines the host.
11:04That's why I want to talk to you tonight on behalf of a God-given American right.
11:10The right to extreme stupidity.
11:14Extremely stupid people are discriminated against all the time.
11:19And I should know, and so should Fern, because we are.
11:23Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:27Tim Robinson, Barnes & Noble firing.
11:30It's one of the few chances Tim Robinson had to stand out and make Kevin Hart laugh.
11:34Except for Carl.
11:36Read the bed, he's old, he's useless.
11:38He's just that good to me.
11:41So, Carl, sorry, Carl, you gotta go.
11:44For real, you gotta go.
11:52Well, that's the way to popcorn pops.
11:55Bobby Moynihan, Guy Fieri's full-throttle Christmas special.
11:59The cast member is all energy in a hilarious parody of the Food Network star.
12:03And for dessert, we're gonna turn a fruit cake into a straight cake.
12:08Ha ha ha!
12:09It's just bacon and carbs.
12:11Plus, we're gonna give you all the holiday music you can cram into your ear holes.

12:33Number 1, Bill Hader, Hollywood Dish with Scarlett Johansson.
12:38I'm Brady Trump.
12:39And I'm Anastasia Sticks.
12:40Thanks so much for doing this interview.
12:43I'm thrilled.
12:43I watch Hollywood Dish all the time.
12:45That's how I found out that Dabney Coleman died.
12:47Oh, no, we had to retract that.
12:49He's totally alive.
12:50Throughout this wacky sketch,
12:52Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig have to do goofy voices and behavior.
12:56This all builds up to when Hader tosses a slushie into his co-star's face.
13:00You know, I've never seen the show, so...
13:02I just don't watch a lot of reality television.
13:14Scarlett Johansson watches and tries to stifle laughter as everyone breaks.
13:19Thankfully for Wig, her fellow cast member wipes away the beverage
13:22and adjusts her makeshift bowl hat.
13:24This allows her to read her lines and get back into character.
13:27I'm sorry, are you two even listening to me?
13:32Okay, you know what?
13:33I'm officially annoyed and I'm officially leaving.
13:35I cannot believe I came on this stupid show.
13:37I swear I'm going to fire my publicist.
13:39Thank you for a junkie time.
13:42Oh, she was cool.
13:43She is so cool.
13:44Cool shit.
13:45I want to hang out with her.
13:46Laid back.
13:46Oh, so laid back.
13:47Laid back.
13:48Hader is an SNL MVP in his own right,
13:51but he's also willing to help out when someone is in need of support.
13:54The same could be said for his appearance in a horror parody.
13:57We know what you've been doing in this castle, Dr. Blackenstein,
14:00and it ends there.
14:04Did we forget another SNL sketch savior?
