00:00:00stories that we've loved the most, all so a hard-working team can put their feet up and relax
00:00:05and hit the ground running fresh for 2026. Speaking of running, there's something I only
00:00:10really do these days when I'm being chased by a dangerous animal. Now, this is a beautiful
00:00:13but breezy spot, so while you enjoy the show, I'm off for a wander. Tonight, when you make
00:00:20one of Colin's recipes, deciding when it's ready is the easiest part. I don't even need to look,
00:00:26I know, I can smell. Take your herb garden up a few rungs. Now, it's as practical as it is pretty.
00:00:36It's on the smallest block we've ever visited, but this home packs a big punch. There was a disused
00:00:44car parking space with room for only two cars that has been turned into the most remarkable home.
00:00:50No budget, no worries. With a few DIY skills, renters can add character to any space in the
00:00:59home. That won't jeopardise their bond. Ham might be a Christmas classic, but once you've updated to
00:01:05Clarissa's version, you'll never make anything else. Just screams Christmas, doesn't it?
00:01:12Take your front yard from greyscale to grand scale. The team and I are here to help homeowner Joanne
00:01:19transform the front of her garden and make it more welcoming.
00:01:23Melissa explores a garden that isn't just about the plants.
00:01:27It's a beautiful artwork which makes this a garden for all seasons.
00:01:32And Dr Harry's on the waterways with some real-life salty sea dogs.
00:01:37I'm making a beautiful eggplant dish, which was my meat-free Monday, which turned into my
00:01:49meat-free Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. It's a dish full of umami, which basically means delicious
00:01:54and you'll make noises of joy when you eat it.
00:02:03Slice your eggplants in half. And what you're going to do now is a little score, crisscross,
00:02:10because believe it or not, they hold an awful lot of water. And then you put a pinch of salt on that,
00:02:14draws it out and makes the flavour a bit more intense. So while that is sitting on the side,
00:02:19I'm going to make the filling. All right, so the filling is basically a tomato, onion, garlic number,
00:02:27which I add some miso paste, some ginger and a few spices.
00:02:35I'm going to stir it in some sesame oil because it gives it that nutty flavour and I'm using some
00:02:39sesame seeds later on. Oh, you can smell the sesame straight away.
00:02:58So nice and low, no colour. While that's on, chop a few chillies, two.
00:03:03Chilies into the pan. Obviously, if you don't like chillies, you don't want it too hot, leave them out.
00:03:20Little knob of ginger.
00:03:21Little knob of ginger. I'm going to add some mushrooms to the mix.
00:03:31Eight to ten button mushrooms, just because the mushroom breaks down.
00:03:38Mushrooms into the pan.
00:03:45Give it a little bit more sesame because sometimes the mushrooms suck up all that oil.
00:03:52I'm going to use some fennel seeds, some ground coriander, about a tablespoon of each.
00:04:03So the thing that sort of elevates this dish is the miso paste. And a lot of people are a bit
00:04:09averse to miso paste. They haven't tried it. They're afraid to use it. Think of something
00:04:13salty and beautiful that's going to enhance your dish. So just a spoonful. A little bit goes a long way.
00:04:21So I've got the salty, I've got the heat. I need something to bind it together and I need to
00:04:28sweeten the dish up. So I'm going to use some tinned chopped tomatoes.
00:04:38A little taste.
00:04:44It's got a kick.
00:04:44Okay, I'm going to add my sesame seeds. It's a great texture. Now this one might spin you out.
00:04:52But everyone's had it. Seaweed sheets. They're actually a great source of iron and they're very
00:04:57healthy for you. But don't worry, I'm not getting healthy. I'm just saying, I like to eat dried seaweed.
00:05:03One day I made the dish and I put it in and I was like, good idea Colin. So let's go with it.
00:05:08So just rip in your sheets. Mix that through.
00:05:19So now if you look at the eggplants, see the way you've got that water starting to leach out?
00:05:23That's the salt doing its job. So all I'm going to do now is fry them off in a hot pan.
00:05:27All right, my mixture is nearly down to consistency. I'm going to add some grains.
00:05:40So I'll keep on the theme of the Asian. A little bit of bok choy.
00:05:47Rough.
00:05:47Turn your eggplants. It's all going on now. That's when you want to see that colour.
00:06:01Then I'm going to bake them in the oven until they're nice and soft.
00:06:07We're going to go in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
00:06:12Right, so as you can see our mixture,
00:06:14if I pull it away from the pan, it'll sort of stay there.
00:06:18So it's not too runny. That's sort of the mixture we're looking for. See that?
00:06:21So it's starting to come together.
00:06:27Beautiful sauce.
00:06:30So what you're looking for is the softness in the eggplant.
00:06:34So it's beautiful and giving. See that?
00:06:37Going to add a little bit of lime juice.
00:06:39Just to freshen it up.
00:06:51What you do now is make a little well in the centre of the eggplant.
00:06:57And then you just fill the cavity and make sure you cover.
00:07:00We're going to go back in the oven, which will dry it out a little bit.
00:07:03Last bit, a little sprinkle of sesame seeds, because they'll toast in the oven.
00:07:13Back in the oven. Just to set, it all sort of sticks together.
00:07:23All right, 10 to 15 minutes.
00:07:26I don't even need to look. I know. I can smell.
00:07:29Give it a little whack of lime again.
00:07:41Some fresh coriander.
00:07:42What up?
00:07:56And that is my meat-free Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
00:08:00To you.
00:08:01Well, if you're a foodie or a gardener, grow your own herbs is definitely a must.
00:08:13Goodness, Ads, I don't even know where to look.
00:08:16I'm not even joking.
00:08:17There is so much these hell going on here.
00:08:20This segment is brought to you by Mr. Fothergills.
00:08:30Discover our secret to seed-raising success at mrfothergills.com.au
00:08:36If you love your herbs, this is a perfect time to get out into the garden,
00:08:48because planting your herbs now and you'll have months and months of harvest.
00:08:52Does that sound like you, Cara?
00:08:54That does sound like me.
00:08:55And you know, I love to cook, so adding fresh herbs and veggies, it's a no-brainer.
00:08:59Oh, fabulous.
00:09:00Now, just looking around, your garden's looking pretty good.
00:09:03You've got lots of plants already in, very relaxed and beautiful colours.
00:09:07But I think we can make some more space and increase your harvest.
00:09:10How does that sound?
00:09:11Sounds great.
00:09:12Perfect.
00:09:20Oh, Cara, you have got a fantastic harvest there.
00:09:24What are your favourite herbs?
00:09:25Well, I love mint, using it in a Thai-style salad or even in a drink as a garnish.
00:09:31And basil, you can't go past it for any Italian meal, pizzas, pastas.
00:09:37It's just delicious. And even just some parsley with my egg in the morning, it just makes it so delicious.
00:09:43So they're the things you like to cook most of all?
00:09:45Yeah, it is. I love my Italian food.
00:09:48Isn't it?
00:09:49Well, I've got a special little present for you.
00:09:51Wow.
00:09:51It's called the Hydra Garden.
00:09:53Now, the Hydra Garden is made by Mr Fothergills.
00:09:55They've got a big range of seeds and a lot of other product for home gardeners.
00:10:00But this one is just brilliant, especially for small homes, apartments,
00:10:04because you can actually grow your favourite herbs right here in your kitchen.
00:10:09And it's so aesthetic too. Look at it.
00:10:11It is. It's good. You wait until we get out of the box.
00:10:14The good thing is the whole kit comes complete with the light, the containers,
00:10:19the hydrosoil pods and the seeds. So you've got coriander, basil and parsley.
00:10:29You can sow into each of those little cracks in there.
00:10:34Now, would you like parsley in the next one?
00:10:36I've actually got lots of parsley growing already.
00:10:38Did you happen to have any spinach?
00:10:40Oh, I do have spinach. Look at the range.
00:10:43Wow. What a range.
00:10:45Spinach I've got.
00:10:45Great.
00:10:46OK, I'll put spinach in the last one.
00:10:50Now, the other great thing is you've got these little glass houses.
00:10:54Keeps the humidity in and they will help to germinate the seeds a lot more quickly.
00:10:59OK, water's in. This is a smart garden because, bingo, it's got this LED light and it's got an
00:11:10inbuilt timer for a day-night time cycle. That's brilliant. It really does everything for you.
00:11:16And as the plants grow, just lift it up. And you see this little float here, it goes red
00:11:22when the water level's low.
00:11:24Oh.
00:11:24OK, so we change colour. Bingo. Some more water go in.
00:11:27So it's really set and forget. It really looks after itself. All you've got to do is just watch
00:11:32the little seeds start to come to life.
00:11:34Hooray.
00:11:36Once the seeds are in, they'll germinate in about two to three weeks.
00:11:41Within two months, you'll be harvesting your herbs.
00:11:44No, it's got me inspired to get into the cooking now, so how about I use all my favourite herbs and
00:11:50whip you up something nice as a thank you?
00:11:52Oh, fabulous. OK, well, I'll go head out into the garden. I've got a couple of projects I'd like to do for you.
00:11:57Great.
00:11:58And leave you to the cooking. Brilliant.
00:12:07The great thing about the Hydro Garden is when the plants have actually got too big for indoors,
00:12:13you can lift them up and then plant them out into the garden or into one of these mobile gardens
00:12:18like this fellow here. So we've got coriander here and of course basil.
00:12:27You know, space is always a problem. It doesn't matter whether you've got a big garden or a small
00:12:42garden. Now this one is a nice little cottage garden, but it could do with a little bit more
00:12:47space. And the way to do that, believe it or not, is a ladder. And I can turn this into the hanging
00:12:53gardens of this little suburb.
00:13:00Now, you can use any type of container that you like.
00:13:03Maybe these little baskets would be the shot, but I'm going for these little steel baskets.
00:13:09They're going to last a long time. They've got a nice depth of soil, yet they're wide to fit into the
00:13:15rungs of the ladder. Now, to keep in with that sort of vibe of the look, I'm using coconut fibre,
00:13:22which I'll just sort of push down in deep. So it looks great, but it very likely will allow
00:13:28too much soil and water to leak out. So I'm going to retain that soil by lining it with a bit of frost
00:13:35fabric. Now, you get that at the hardware store, push it in there.
00:13:46Right, okay, let's get some plants in. Now, I've got a really good choice here,
00:13:51some society garlic, and you can use the leaves. In fact, you can use all parts of the plant,
00:13:55and the flower is really ornamental. And then, between those, I'm putting in some curry plant.
00:14:00This is like a little shrub, and that really adds a whole new dimension to your cooking.
00:14:10My next basket, I'm going for a rosemary combo. This little upright rosemary, great for roast.
00:14:19But there's also a little spillover rosemary. This is great. It's got the same essential oils,
00:14:24you can use it in cooking, but it's going to spill over out of our basket and make our ladder garden
00:14:29look just that little bit schmick. Keep the water up to them. In a couple of weeks,
00:14:38Kara will be harvesting beautiful flavours into the kitchen.
00:14:41Now, it's as practical as it is pretty.
00:15:06Ready for some lunch, Graham?
00:15:07That looks spectacular. Oh, wow.
00:15:11You can garnish it with some of our fresh herbs.
00:15:14Isn't that brilliant? Oh, you can't beat basil on a pizza like that, can you?
00:15:19You just can't.
00:15:20I can smell that basil already coming off your pizza. It is just brilliant.
00:15:24Look, it doesn't matter whether you're a foodie, you're a green thumb or a gardener,
00:15:29a bit of both like Kara, growing your own herbs is just an absolute must. Enjoy. How good is that?
00:15:37Just because you're renting doesn't mean you can't add your own personal style.
00:15:42There was a disused car parking space with room for only two cars that has been turned into the most
00:15:48remarkable home.
00:15:49The latest issue of the Better Homes and Gardens magazine is out now, just in time for Christmas.
00:15:58Go floral with your festive decorations. If you've got a green thumb like me, use your favourite blooms
00:16:03from your garden. Or you can even use faux flowers. Save money on gifts by propagating
00:16:07plants to share with loved ones. The best thing is, even beginner gardeners will be able to keep
00:16:11these varieties alive. And find out which fast growing seeds to plant now for the best summer
00:16:16salads you've ever had. Get the latest issue of the Better Homes and Gardens magazine from your
00:16:20local supermarket or newsagent, and you'll get bonus cookie cutters and stamps. Perfect for craft or festive treats.
00:16:27Well, when it comes to property, they say location is everything. But if you do want to build close
00:16:43to the city, it's not like there's a lot of vacant land just lying around. No, there definitely isn't,
00:16:48Grigsy. And that means that you need to get creative. And the guys that built the house that we're about to
00:16:52see, well, it's fair to say they definitely did that. We should actually mention we're at Northcote,
00:16:56which is what, about 10km from the Melbourne CBD. We're on a laneway that connects up to the main
00:17:01road, which is High Street. And as far as vacant land, well, there was a disused car parking space
00:17:06with room for only two cars that has been turned into the most remarkable home. Oh, I can't wait to see this.
00:17:20Oh, I can't wait to hear your thoughts. I bet you weren't expecting this amazing home. Grigsy,
00:17:25this is absolutely amazing. I mean, my mind is blown. I'm still trying to work out. You've got
00:17:30three-dimensional block work, but on top of that, you've got these curved blocks. Like, literally,
00:17:35it is curved, a square block curved. I don't know how they do that. But really, there's only three
00:17:39main materials that they've used here. You've got concrete, you've got plywood, and you've got steel.
00:17:44And look, the home has been designed with sustainability in mind, but every single component
00:17:49in this home has actually been created within a 5k radius. So I've taken that next level.
00:17:54That is so good. And plus, they've used some amazing technology that I don't even think I've
00:17:58ever heard of before. And I want to learn more about it. There's a lot to take in.
00:18:03So this is incredibly narrow, just 4.6 metres wide, and 22 metres long, this block. So if you want
00:18:15to put a lot of house on it, how would you approach it? Well, basically, you're going to dig down,
00:18:19and you're going to go up. And that's exactly what they've done here. Wow, whoa.
00:18:25Goodness, Ads, I don't even know where to look. I'm not even joking. There is so much detail going
00:18:36on here. This is absolutely remarkable. This is going to be one of the most sculptural and beautiful
00:18:43like stairwells I think I've ever seen in any home we've ever been in. Yeah. So I think they've started
00:18:48from the bottom, and they've worked their way up, and each piece is 18mm thick. With 450mm
00:18:55threaded rods going all the way around to tie it all together. There's so much to talk about. Yeah.
00:18:59But then obviously this is the next thing that catches your eye, this concrete panel. Yeah. So
00:19:05these concrete panels, they were made on site, in situ. Whoa. So they used a computer numerical
00:19:11controlled milling machine to create, use foam, and you create these patterns in it. And then that
00:19:16foam is then put up inside of the formwork, right? And then to tie the formwork through, you've obviously
00:19:22got your steel gauze that holds everything together. Instead of patching these holes,
00:19:26let's keep the holes there, and put a little button in with a brass top that blends in with
00:19:30the rest of the house.
00:19:38So Adam, you keep talking about these little buttonholes, but when you actually look at these
00:19:42floating shelves, they've also dictated where the supports are. I mean, great space saving ideas
00:19:47everywhere you look, including custom-made furniture right here that make up this kitchen and dining
00:19:51area. Yeah. By putting it in the middle of the room, you still have all that circulation space
00:19:55around it. Yeah. It feels so open, and I mean, and talking about that circular space, look at the
00:19:59flow here. This kitchen bench follows the circular motion of this stairwell. Love it. And then the cabinet
00:20:05fronts, they've got that pleated look, just like the external walls. Wow. And I'm looking at this
00:20:09bench top, and there's not a joint to be seen. How gorgeous is this room? It's called a snag. Snag's
00:20:25a bug in a rug, reading a book on your book nook. Oh, Joe, your rapping's crook. Whatever, you sook.
00:20:31Into the master bedroom, one of two bedrooms in the house. And just when you thought it couldn't get
00:20:53any better. This is extraordinary, this finish on the ceiling. Wowie. So it's still pleated,
00:20:59but then it's concaved as well. As well. And I love the coloration. So you've also got all this
00:21:03feature in the coloration, which should just be how the concrete's drying. Drying at different times,
00:21:08that's correct. Wait a minute, Griggsie, is that my lips in the middle of that glass? Well,
00:21:12I don't know. How busy have you been? But isn't that actually a beautiful feature? It's a hand-blown
00:21:17glass porthole. And I mean, it actually distorts the view from all different angles. It is absolutely
00:21:22gorgeous. And I mean, I'm even loving how they've angled that shaft, and that's intentionally,
00:21:25because that's allowing maximum light to come into this room.
00:21:33So just when I thought they couldn't find one more thing that these owners and architects
00:21:37had managed to achieve the impossible, they have done it. They have made ducting look attractive
00:21:42in the second bedroom. That's unbelievable. I mean, to me, it looks like two transformer arms
00:21:47coming into the house. Look, again, very beautiful to look at, but also very practical. So basically,
00:21:52it's bringing the fresh air in. There's vents all throughout the house, and all the stale air
00:21:57goes outside. So it's a very healthy home. And obviously, you know, you're not going to get
00:22:00any condensation on these windows, aren't you?
00:22:10So, Jo, there is 385 of these steel tubes. On the front and the back of the house? And if you look up,
00:22:17you can see these beautiful curves again. And to create them, they actually use augmented reality.
00:22:23So they've actually just bent them on side, have they? With their goggles, and they're just
00:22:27bending them into shape. I mean, that's just fun. That's making building fun. That is fun. And so,
00:22:32if you have a closer look, it's actually beautiful, because not every one piece is perfect. And I think
00:22:37that adds to the look of it as well. And also, again, very practical in the sense that it gives
00:22:42you some privacy. And you can see that they've actually planted lots of greenery. And the end vision
00:22:46is that this will eventually be a beautiful green trellis that goes the whole way up. That's amazing.
00:22:51And with that spiral staircase, you literally get to walk through a green wall.
00:22:55Well, to be perfectly honest, it's leading us up there right now. Let's go.
00:23:08Tell you what, we thought it's got to work out. Look at this quick.
00:23:10But isn't it worth it? You've got a view of the ranges that way. Oh, this is gorgeous.
00:23:16Wow. How comfortable it is.
00:23:18So how random is that? But the first thing I noticed when we sit down, like that was windy
00:23:22coming up the stairs. Yeah. I can't feel a breath of wind now. No, so totally protective,
00:23:26little chill zone. And quite amazing to think just how much is in this home. It feels enormous,
00:23:31but it's actually not a big place, is it? The building envelope, 82 square metres. That's tiny.
00:23:36Look, we have been in awe of this home, I think, since we arrived. It is unlike any other place that we
00:23:40have explored, certainly in my 20 years on the show. But to be perfectly honest, it's a great example of
00:23:45good things come to those who wait because it actually took them, what, seven years when they
00:23:50got the site to get it built. Five of those years was actually on site, piecing it together from the
00:23:55bottom up. Bit by bit. But I mean, to me, there is just so much we could learn as a building industry
00:24:01that we could carry through. I mean, even just this rooftop garden is so clever, isn't it?
00:24:05It certainly is. It's beautiful. Coming up, Juliet rolls out some ideas to improve your home,
00:24:19even when you don't own it. This is a super easy idea that's going to make a huge difference to this
00:24:26kitchen. There's never a shortage of Christmas lunch leftovers, but Clarissa's ham is one you
00:24:33won't get too cold. It really does look amazing. And even a bland front yard can still come up roses.
00:24:42Thank you. It's an amazing job, Charlie. I love it. It's really inspiring.
00:24:52One of the main dilemmas with renting is how you put your own stamp on the place without upsetting the
00:24:57landlord with any permanent changes. Today, I'm meeting brother and sister renters who are after some
00:25:02rental friendly ideas for their kitchen that won't jeopardise their bond.
00:25:09Hi, Hannah. Hi, Dylan. Hi.
00:25:11Hi. I hear that you guys need some help with your kitchen.
00:25:14Please. And thank you. Okay. Can I come take a look? Yes, go on. Thank you.
00:25:22What a cute place. I love this light. Thank you.
00:25:25How long have you been here? We've been here about 18 months now. I can
00:25:29see that you've definitely put some creative touches in the decor and all the wall art. I love it.
00:25:34I love it. Is this a, um, they're musical chords, right? Yes. Guitar chart, yep. You're a muso?
00:25:39We both are, yeah. Oh, both of you. I love it. I love all these retro vibes. Very cool.
00:25:44Thank you. Well, kitchen's this way.
00:25:51So here's our little kitchen. Oh, it is so cute.
00:25:55Thank you. Yeah, we love cooking and entertaining, having our friends over, but it's a bit embarrassing.
00:26:00It's kind of daggy still, and it's hard because we're renting, especially this area. Like,
00:26:05there's nothing we can really do, you know. We don't want it to be permanent, obviously.
00:26:09It can be very tricky coming up with ideas, but that's what I'm here for. And I've already
00:26:13thought of a solution for this tiling situation. But what I would love to do is get you guys involved.
00:26:18All right. So while we can't replace the current tiles that are in there, what we can do is put
00:26:30some more tiles over the top that you can actually take with you when you go. So I've got some eaves
00:26:36lining fibro here that I've attached to this frame. And because it's already waterproof and sealed,
00:26:42it means that it is ready for the tiles to go on. Now, I've chosen these really cute tiles.
00:26:47Hope you love them. I love them. We do.
00:26:49And I thought I'd do an alternate pattern with the white and the pink. And it's always a good idea,
00:26:56when you're shopping for tiles, to check in the bargain bins or for end of lines, because these
00:27:02were only a dollar each, and they're so cute. And I think they're going to look perfect in that kitchen.
00:27:07So the first thing we need to do, though, is attach this tile trim. So we're going to use
00:27:12this Instant Hold glue. Who wants to have a go at putting it on?
00:27:17Go for it. I've never used one of these before. You're going to have to teach me how to do it.
00:27:21It's just a... Like, shoot it? Yep, yep, that's it. Just start down here.
00:27:28Great job. Yay.
00:27:29And just come around the corner. We need to do the whole thing. So that was your first one. Well done.
00:27:33So now we just need to stick this first one down here.
00:27:45All right, Dylons. What you can do is just wipe the glue along the top, and that will just kind
00:27:50of set it on the top of the trim. Okay. Lovely. Great. So... I wouldn't recommend that. All right,
00:27:59now I'm going to put a wipe tile at each end, but I'm not going to stick those down just yet,
00:28:04because that's where we're going to attach this. So the next one is going to be pink. You need to
00:28:11just add a little bit of glue. I'm using the exact same glue, because it's suitable for tiles. What you
00:28:16want to do is just put about eight dots on each one. Okay. You're the expert at this now, so I'll
00:28:22let you do it. I know exactly how to do it. Okay. Yeah, these can go down now. Do you want to do that
00:28:33side, Dylons, and I'll do this one? Okay. And don't forget to leave that little gap there.
00:28:37Perfect. Yay. Boom. That's it. All right, the last row. These ones are a little bit smaller.
00:29:00Looks good. And then we just need to take out these top two white ones at each end,
00:29:11because if you remember, that's where we need to attach it through. Oh, yeah. So take those ones
00:29:15off. And look how well you guys have lined these up. I'm really impressed. High five. Thank you.
00:29:20Awesome job. All right. I think we can get this into the kitchen now. You want to give me a hand? Yes.
00:29:30Greg, our construction manager, has just added this board over the old tiles using Velcro,
00:29:35which means that when Hannah and Dylan decide to leave, they can easily remove this. But it will
00:29:40allow us to attach the new tiles onto this rather than screwing it into the wall.
00:29:45And then all we need to do is glue in those last two tiles.
00:30:01It's pretty good already. It looks so much better.
00:30:08It looks so good. I love how excited you guys are about your new kitchen. Well, we're very grateful.
00:30:15We've only done one thing. We've got lots more to do. Wait till you see it at the end.
00:30:18I can't wait. Me too.
00:30:21Time to grout now. And generally speaking, you want the consistency of toothpaste,
00:30:24which is what it is about now. Then you apply it onto the corner edge of your grout float.
00:30:30And then you can apply it onto your tiles. And you want to start at a 45 degree angle,
00:30:38wiping down into those cracks. And once all the grout's on, I'm going to get you guys to give me a hand
00:30:44to sponge it off. Yay. It looks so good. Now, I'm going to ask you guys to have a go at sponging
00:30:56off the excess grout. Did I apply pressure or not? Not too much pressure because you'll pull the grout
00:31:02out if you do that. So you just want to sort of remove the excess on the tiles.
00:31:12Hannah, that looks great. Good job. Thank you.
00:31:15All right. So that's the first job done, but I have a few more things to do.
00:31:18I think you guys should go have a little break. I'll finish everything off and then you guys come
00:31:22back for the big reveal. How divine does this look? Who's up for a glazed ham this Christmas?
00:31:40I think it's time to get Dylan and Hannah back. Hey guys, come see what you think.
00:31:45If you like to garden as much as I do, check us out on 7 Plus, where you can find all your
00:31:53favourite stories plus tons of gardening how-tos, exclusive content and more.
00:32:04The Christmas ham is an age-old tradition and in Australia, we tend to serve it as is. But today,
00:32:12I'm going to show you how to make an Asian-inspired glaze with ginger and soy spiked with a few spices.
00:32:26The glaze is the hero of this dish. So what I'm going to do, I'm going to start off with one cup of
00:32:34light soy sauce. To that, I've got half a cup of rice wine vinegar, two-third of a cup of sweet chili sauce,
00:32:48a third of hoisin,
00:32:51one cup of honey,
00:32:56two tablespoons of sesame oil,
00:32:58two tablespoons of ginger, two teaspoons of five spice, four star anise,
00:33:12and of course, a little bit of chilli.
00:33:16We're going to let this boil and then we want to simmer it to a thick consistency. It should take
00:33:32around 15 to 20 minutes. While that's all happening on the side, we're going to start off with the ham.
00:33:40This is about 8 to 10 kilos. The first thing you want to do with this ham is take off the skin.
00:33:51You want to make an incision just where the bone is, about 10 centimetres away from the bone.
00:33:58And you want to slice it, but very, very gently. Do not pierce the fat. And once you make that incision
00:34:07around the bone, you start off by peeling and then use your fingers to pull away the skin. And the tip
00:34:18is to make sure that your ham is at room temperature. And you just take that away.
00:34:26The first thing you want to do is score it into a diamond shape. Make sure you don't cut it right
00:34:33through to the flesh. Next, where the point of the diamond is, you start to put clothes in it.
00:34:51So when you're choosing your ham, always go for Australian pork. One of the key elements to know
00:35:04if your pork comes from Australia is that if you buy it on the bone, it means it's come from Australia.
00:35:11And the reason why is that they can't import any meat on the bone.
00:35:16And that glaze is thickened up and it's got a nice consistency to it.
00:35:29Put this aside until it cools down completely before you start glazing the ham.
00:35:36So I've got my tray here and I'm going to put a little bit of water. What this does,
00:35:42it prevents your glaze when it drips over the ham to burn in the oven.
00:35:54All right, I'm going to put my first glaze on the ham. Be generous with the glaze. We have so much of it.
00:36:03Coat it everywhere, every little nook and cranny.
00:36:07Last bit of glaze here. I've preheated the oven to 160 and a bit of a tip here before we cover
00:36:24your ham with the foil. Just give it a quick spray of oil so it doesn't stick to the foil.
00:36:32So the foil doesn't need to be tightly wrapped, just very loosely will do. And every 50 minutes,
00:36:46I'm going to baste it again till it reaches the 50 minute mark.
00:36:50Glaze it with the foil off for another 40 minutes. And that is going to get your skin nice and crispy and caramelized.
00:37:10How divine does this look? Merry Christmas from my family to yours. I hope you enjoy this ham.
00:37:26I am helping Hannah and Dylan zhuzh up their kitchen with some renter friendly projects
00:37:38that won't upset their landlord. This is a super easy project that's going to make a massive difference
00:37:45to the kitchen. It's a flat pack cabinet that I'm going to place between the oven and the fridge,
00:37:51but I've customised it. I've put this really cool retro pattern wallpaper and pretty pastels on the sides.
00:37:57I've also added, instead of the regular top, I've put a chopping board, which makes it really practical.
00:38:03My favourite though, is that I've put it on a moving dolly, which means it can be really easily moved
00:38:08around. It's the perfect workstation for next to the oven. It's also the perfect drinks trolley for when
00:38:15Hannah and Dylan decide to have a cocktail party. All I need to do now is clip on the door,
00:38:23which I've added the wallpaper to as well.
00:38:31A splashback can make all the difference in a kitchen, but we don't want to do anything
00:38:35permanent or that will damage the walls. So I've got another idea for that too.
00:38:45This is Core Flute. It's a fluted plastic that's very lightweight, but also very rigid,
00:38:50so it's perfect for this application. You can cut it with a Stanley Life. So I have cut it down
00:38:55to the dimensions that we need to create the splashback. And to give it some decorative
00:39:00flare, I'm going to use these peel and stick 3D tiles. They're in these pretty pink penny rounds,
00:39:06which are going to go perfectly in the kitchen. And the only trick with these is that whatever pattern
00:39:12you're using, you just need to make sure you overlap it so you get the perfect effect. But they're really
00:39:18simple. Peel and stick and you're away.
00:39:34To finish it off, I'm just using the same trim that I used for the other tiles and I'm attaching
00:39:38that with hot glue. And then to place this on the wall, I'm using these velcro strips, which are fantastic
00:39:44because they're easily removable. And with the splashback done, it is time for my favourite thing, styling.
00:40:03I think it's time to get Dylan and Hannah back. Hey guys, come see what you think!
00:40:17Hey! Oh! Oh my god! What? Is this the same place? Oh my god! Oh my god, this looks incredible!
00:40:30I'm shook! Oh my god! What? I cannot believe this! This is so cute! It looks amazing! Oh, I'm so, so happy!
00:40:42Hooray! I'm so glad you like it. Lots to take in. I hope you like pink. Yes! There's a bit of pink,
00:40:47but it's a really nice pink. It's a soft pink, very livable. So I actually noticed that there were some
00:40:53stains on here, but these are from the $2 shop and all I've done is just spray using a metal shield brass
00:41:00paint, which won't scratch or peel off. So the brass will tie in with the trim here on the tiles.
00:41:05And this pink is just so gorgeous again. But when you guys leave, you just take it off and no harm done.
00:41:11Wow! This is honestly incredible! And then you've got this little trolley on wheels,
00:41:17which is actually storage as well. So there's a cabinet there, but you can use it obviously when
00:41:24you're cooking. You can chop on there, but also I know you guys like to entertain, so it can also
00:41:29be like a little cocktail cart. You can pop some drinks on the top. This is amazing! And the wallpaper
00:41:35that we've got here, I also covered the fridge in it because it's peel and stick, so it just comes
00:41:39straight off. I love it! This is so amazing! Oh good! I can see you guys cooking in here and entertaining
00:41:47and having lots more parties and you know you've got no excuse. You know you're friends around.
00:41:52Exactly! Thank you so much! This is honestly incredible! Oh, you're welcome! It is!
00:41:57Wow! Oh my god! I've got some ideas to make the front of this cottage even more welcoming.
00:42:16So you want to take your dog out birdie? Here's a great way to do it. Luxury!

00:43:01This segment is brought to you by Richgro. Want the best spring roses and flowers?
00:43:08Use Richgro Black Marvel rose and flower food.
00:43:11While I move from the northern hemisphere to Australia, there's a few things that challenged
00:43:17everything I knew about nature. Some of them were myths like the toilet water spiralling in the other
00:43:21direction but some were very true. In the northern hemisphere, you want a south-facing garden but
00:43:28here in Australia, the ideal one is a north-facing one because it gets more light and you can grow
00:43:33more plants. But if you've got a limited space like this and this amount of brick, well it's quite harsh.
00:43:37The weeds will come in quickly and it's pretty uninviting. So the team and I are here to help homeowner
00:43:42Joanne transform the front of our garden and make it more welcoming.
00:43:47Joanne, lovely to see you.
00:43:48Hi, how are you?
00:43:49I'm very well. You have some roses I can see.
00:43:52I do.
00:43:52You like the roses?
00:43:53I love roses.
00:43:54Have you tried anything else out here or are you just a roses girl?
00:43:56I'm more of a roses girl but it's boring. It needs something to make it more, I know, more inviting.
00:44:02Okay. Do you find it gets quite hot out here as well?
00:44:04Very warm, yeah, especially in the morning.
00:44:06Yeah, and that's a lot to do with the brickwork. So I think by bringing more plants,
00:44:09we'll soften it and just make it more welcoming too.
00:44:11That'd be fantastic.
00:44:12Okay, leave it with us.
00:44:23By widening our garden beds, our plants are going to be healthier and we're going to be able to get
00:44:27more plants in as well. But I'm also going to wrap the garden beds around so they go down the path as
00:44:31well. That's going to make the whole thing feel less one-dimensional. The first thing we need to
00:44:35do is get rid of the weeds.
00:44:49With the weeds gone and the beds much larger, I can really take a look at these roses and do a bit of
00:44:53pruning on them, work out exactly what needs to be done. I'm going to tackle this one first because
00:44:57it's the oldest and least healthiest looking one. The first thing I'm going to do is take off some of
00:45:01this growth down here. Now this is off the rootstock and all the energy that's gone into growing this
00:45:06can go into growing the nicer looking plant at the top. So this comes off to start with and then
00:45:11I'm going to look at the rest of the plant. You can see this whole branch here is completely dead.
00:45:16So I'm going to use secateurs. I'm going to use a saw. I'm just going to remove this and then I'll take a look at the rest of the plant.
00:45:21Now this is just a horticultural oil which will take care of those aphids and when the whole
00:45:36garden beds planted out we're going to give them a really good feed because strong healthy plants
00:45:41are more pest and disease resistant.
00:45:54This project isn't all about soft landscaping. I'm adding in a couple of hard elements as well.
00:45:59A stepping stone on either side of the path so you can still get the mower through
00:46:02to service the lawn and then some garden edging to stop the lawn from growing into the new garden beds.
00:46:18I know you do like a bit of gardening so you'd be happy to help me get some plants in the ground?
00:46:31Sure will.
00:46:32Okay, I think we'll start with either side of the path. Now I'm going to use this lavender.
00:46:36This one is really well suited to Sydney climate so it can take the humid conditions called Sidonie.
00:46:41It's got, I quite like the flowers the way they're kind of quite erratic and off the plants so I
00:46:45thought having those either side of the path would be really nice when you come home.
00:46:48Cool, that sounds lovely.
00:46:49All right, you start with that one. I'll grab some more.
00:46:51Thank you. Just along here?
00:46:53Yep, we'll do three the side.
00:47:08This one's called Petite Jenny.
00:47:10Oh, it's pretty.
00:47:11Yeah, it's nice, isn't it?
00:47:13Goes well with the house.
00:47:14It does, it's really nice and goes well with the salvia pink as well.
00:47:16It ties in really lovely.
00:47:27I absolutely love these little trough pots.
00:47:30We've got the miniature roses and then the paper daisies.
00:47:33Beautiful.
00:47:34When they finish flowering, you just want to give them a little bit of a trim just to deadhead them.
00:47:40Same with the roses. Once they finish flowering, just deadhead them with secateurs.
00:47:43It's going to give us denser growth, better flowers, and you'll probably get some repeat
00:47:47flowering out of it.
00:47:47Beautiful.
00:47:48Look as good as this for a long time to come.
00:47:50That's beautiful.
00:47:51They look good, don't they?
00:47:52They look great.
00:47:52So, Joanne, the last thing we're going to do is pot these magnolias up.
00:47:57Now, this variety is called Teddy Bear. It stays really small and it quite likes being in a pot.
00:48:02It's probably the smallest of the evergreen magnolias and it's really columnar, so it's not going to
00:48:06take over too much space and you can print it with secateurs and it won't look out of shape.
00:48:13Beautiful.
00:48:13Now, if this was my place, I'd probably try and grow it up and maybe have an archway over
00:48:18the front door or something like that, or you can just leave them to do their own thing.
00:48:21So, Joanne, feel free to sprinkle some fertilizer either side of the path.
00:48:39Now, because we've got so many flowers here and the roses already are heavy feeders,
00:48:44we need to give them the best nutrition we can.
00:48:46So, I'm using Rich Grow Black Marble rose and flower food.
00:48:49It's good for roses and all your flowers. It's got everything your plants need.
00:48:52It's got lots of nitrogen and iron for glossy green leaves.
00:48:55You've got potash to give you really big, beautiful flowers.
00:48:58But it's also got a wetting agent as well, so you know it's going to get deep watering as well.
00:49:02Now, the granules are great for the garden beds.
00:49:05I've also got a liquid, which is better for the pots.
00:49:07And you can apply it, you know, all the way through up until winter now,
00:49:10every four to eight weeks. Just sprinkle some around, you won't have a problem.
00:49:13Do you have to water it in?
00:49:15Always a good idea with any fertilizer to give it a really good watering in.
00:49:17Beautiful.
00:49:18Yeah.
00:49:22Joanne, I said that I would make your front garden more welcoming.
00:49:25And one final touch, welcome that, of course.
00:49:28Thank you. It's an amazing job, Charlie. I love it. It's so beautiful. It's really inspiring.
00:49:40The brightness of it and the way it makes you feel, it makes you happy.
00:49:44I'm glad you like it.
00:49:45Yeah.
00:49:46What you need to do though, is keep up with the watering and the feeding and it's going to reward you all the way through the warmer months.
00:49:50You're not going to come back?
00:49:52Well, you did help out.
00:49:54Coming up, it's all paws on deck as Dr. Harry sets sail.
00:50:08We've got so much water around us. Get out there and enjoy it. With the whole family and I'm talking about your dog as well.
00:50:15And when you're looking to add some colour to your garden, flowers aren't the only option.
00:50:21And if the garden is your canvas, then why not paint it with colour?
00:50:24So much better
00:50:29Are you good? Good to see you.
00:50:31Hey, what a fabulous place this is. I'm surrounded by dogs. The dogs are having such a great time. They're in the water, they're on the sand, they're enjoying it.
00:50:42And out there, wow, look at those boats. We get to enjoy them. And I thought to myself, well, why not combine the two? Let's put the dogs on the boats. And then we can all have a good time. We can be a family.
00:50:56Yeah, it is a good idea. But you need to be well prepared before you all step on board.
00:51:15I want you to meet two really passionate nautical canines. First of all, there's Lila. Now, you can't miss her. She's an Aussie shepherd. No tail.
00:51:25The other one is Mojo. Mojo's a bit like me. A bit portly and very little hair on top.
00:51:30And they're part of a family that works here at Keys Marina on beautiful pit water.
00:51:35Hello. How are you? Oh, welcome in committee. G'day. G'day. Don't you miss that, Mojo?
00:51:41I'd say they're a couple of pair of salty dogs or sea dogs, if you like. Where do the dogs normally go when you're on the boat?
00:51:47Well, I'm going to go with Lila in the cockpit. Ben, do you want to go up the bow?
00:51:51Yeah, Mojo loves it up on the bow. Where does Harry go?
00:51:54Come in the cockpit with me.
00:51:59Now, what dog doesn't love travelling in a car, right, Marley?
00:52:02Yeah. But this is a boat. It's very different.
00:52:05Now, in a car, the dog has to be restrained on the back seat in some sort of harness device.
00:52:11What about a boat like this? Because I notice you've got these sort of very high bits on the side here
00:52:16to stop anybody, that includes me, falling over. Whereas on an older type craft, and I guess on a yacht,
00:52:21particularly a racing yacht, you wouldn't have this at all, would you?
00:52:24No. And Lila's grown up on sailing yachts, so she knows all about that. There's a lot of tilt
00:52:29involved. But on a boat like this, you don't have to worry about that.
00:52:33So you would happily let her off the lead to walk around here?
00:52:37Only when we're not underway. So while we're at speed, I've always got her on a lead.
00:52:42Right.
00:52:42And of course, she's always got a life jacket on.
00:52:44Okay. Now, let's talk about life jackets because they're important.
00:52:47I'm not wearing a life jacket. You're not wearing a life jacket because the size of this boat,
00:52:52the fact that we're in enclosed waters and we're travelling at fairly low speed,
00:52:56it's not required. So we're safe. But for dogs, in my opinion, it's always required.
00:53:00Yeah.
00:53:01Because guess what? Some dogs can't swim. So you need to actually teach your dog to swim
00:53:07before you think about taking it out on a boat of any description at all. And that includes
00:53:12even a little dinghy.
00:53:18But being part of a seafaring family, Mojo and Lila don't just cruise about on power boats.
00:53:24How would Lila go on a paddleboard?
00:53:27Well, she loves it. It's probably your favourite thing to do. I'll tell you what,
00:53:30she's going to get very excited when we get that thing down.
00:53:33All right, we're going to have six legs on the one paddleboard. How does that sound?
00:53:37Good girl.
00:53:42You make it look so easy.
00:53:46Dogs have got four feet, so they have really got a good sense of balance,
00:53:50but this is a very unnatural sort of thing to be on.
00:53:53She seems to love it.
00:54:00What a great sequence. That's a well-controlled...
00:54:05I was about to say it was a well-controlled circumstance, but unfortunately,
00:54:11every good thing comes to an end.
00:54:15We just do things like that occasionally to show you that it is real.
00:54:19A power boat with its high sides is one thing, but what if you want to go sailing?
00:54:23With your dog.
00:54:25Talk to me about Sassy. How did you introduce her to the boat?
00:54:28Well, the day we picked her up, we had the boat in the harbour having some work done, and we had to
00:54:36take the boat from the harbour up here. It's about 12 miles, ground figures, but you had to go out the
00:54:43heads up the coast and then back in here through Palm Beach. So we brought her with us.
00:54:48What a tiny thing she was.
00:54:49And she was very small, and we've got a photograph actually of us holding her,
00:54:55and we just motored up gently, didn't put the sails up. It was all very, very calm and benign,
00:55:02and she hasn't looked back.
00:55:03Took it in a stride.
00:55:04She loves it, loves it.
00:55:06Well, she's half poodle. They're pretty smart dogs. They really are pretty smart dogs.
00:55:10How do you get on? If you're, say, up the Whitsundays or something, cruising around the islands,
00:55:15how does the dog get on? You're not going to go ashore, right?
00:55:19Correct. So one of the things we wanted to do with her from the time that we bought her was get
00:55:25her on the boat, get her relaxed and comfortable, and we started making sure that she was able to
00:55:31go to the toilet on the boat. So to do that, she goes up onto the deck there, and so from very,
00:55:37very early on, she learned to do that, and she still does it.
00:55:40You've got what is effectively a metre square piece of artificial grass.
00:55:44Yep.
00:55:44Cheap as chips and totally disposable. When it finally wears out, you go get yourself another one.
00:55:48Absolutely.
00:55:50I look at it, you know, and in comparison to, say, a powerboat, which will often have a fairly
00:55:56large gunwale around the side, you know, you don't have that. You've just got wire rope.
00:56:00Correct. Correct.
00:56:01So she could, she's tiny. She could roll over and go on. So if she does happen to roll over and gone,
00:56:08Yep.
00:56:09have you got procedures for getting her back on the boat?
00:56:11So what we do have is a Dan boy, and what we'll do is deploy it straight away. That tells us where
00:56:17roughly the vicinity of where the dog will be. Okay, so it goes in the water, obviously it floats.
00:56:21Literally just throw it over.
00:56:22This is weighted.
00:56:23Yeah, so it stays downwards, and then you see that you've got the flag.
00:56:26Straight up the flag, and if for any reason it's night time, you've got a reflective tape here.
00:56:32I can see here on the edge as well. So you can see it in a torch. And that at least gives us a position,
00:56:37because a dog, even a big dog, in any sort of waterway, all you see is the head if it's in the water.
00:56:43That's exactly right.
00:56:48We've talked a lot about safety, life jackets, and what to do when your dog accidentally pulls off the boat.
00:56:54But what if you both just want to go for a swim?
00:56:58You're keen, you're keen, aren't you?
00:56:59That is the most amazing thing. So this ramp's been specially made by the two of them,
00:57:05so Sassy can get up and down without any trouble. They've got a non-slip surface on it,
00:57:08so she can grip quite well. What a good idea. It's like a little kid's slippy dip,
00:57:13with this tactile surface glued on. But it works so well.
00:57:18Oh, you've got to come back then. Good girl.
00:57:25Dogs are part of the family, aren't they? They really are. And Sassy just loves this boat,
00:57:29but I think she likes to treat it even more at the moment. What a great day I've had. Been on a
00:57:33beautiful powerboat, and now on a stunning yacht. Waterways of Sydney are something special,
00:57:40aren't they? In fact, the whole of Australia, we've got so much water around us. Get out there and
00:57:45enjoy it. With the whole family, and I'm talking about your dog as well, just make sure that like
00:57:50Boy Scouts, you're well prepared.
00:57:57There's more than one way to add colour and personality to your garden. And it all starts
00:58:01with metal. Coming up to the most wonderful time of the year, and the latest issue of Better
00:58:07Homes and Gardens magazine is all about celebrating a slow and sweet Christmas. There's two great menus
00:58:13to take the stress out of Christmas cooking. From a prep ahead Christmas with a classic turkey and
00:58:18summery mango trifle, or let the air fryer do the work for you. Plus, Matt Moran serves up a mouth
00:58:25watering apricot and chestnut stuffed chicken, and an easy toasted couscous, cranberry and feta salad.
00:58:32Pick up the latest issue from newsagents or supermarkets to get bonus cookie cutters
00:58:37to make festive cookies or Christmas craft projects.
00:58:55Just over an hour outside Melbourne is the beautiful historic town of Castlemaine. Now, it's well known for
00:59:01being a cool arts and culture spot, with a funky old art deco theatre and great coffee culture.
00:59:07It's also an historic Goldfields region surrounded by lots of natural beauty. But what you might not
00:59:13know is that it's also home to a hidden gem, a very special garden where it's not just plants
00:59:18that provide the colour and interest.
00:59:36This is Shades of Grey, which is a sculpture studio gallery and gorgeous garden, which is home to
00:59:42some of the most incredible garden sculptures I've ever seen. So everything from these chandelier-like
00:59:47flowers that hang from the trees through to the most whimsical birdhouses. It's easy to see why
00:59:52thousands of people flock here to the gardens every year when the owners open it to exhibit their work.
00:59:57And when you look around, there are some beautiful plants in this garden, but it's not the plants
01:00:01which are taking centre stage. It's the beautiful artwork which makes this a garden for all seasons.
01:00:07Peter and his wife Shelly are both artists, and they've been creating these unique sculptures for the
01:00:12last 30 years. When they bought their first home together, they added gallery spaces to the site.
01:00:18But they also started to scatter their artwork throughout their stunning garden,
01:00:23and the results are truly spectacular.
01:00:26Hi Peter, I thought I might find you here. When I was coming in, I have to say I was blown away
01:00:31by what I saw. Congratulations. Thank you. You're welcome. So how did you get started?
01:00:36We started just with rusty wire work and corrugated iron. We were making flowers and candelabras and
01:00:45bowls and sculptures, and then it's gone in now to the flowers. When the drought hit in 2000,
01:00:52the garden was dying and we wanted some flowers to put in it. So we started doing the flowers and it's
01:00:58just taken off from there. Wow, well what a great way to add colour to the garden. And where have you
01:01:02exhibited before? We started off at the Convent Gallery in Daylesford in the early 90s, and then
01:01:08we ended up in the Guggenheim Museum in New York in the late 90s. Wow, so international recognition.
01:01:13And then what an installation this is. Yeah, well we have people who come from all over Australia.
01:01:20Internationally, you're not going to find something like this anywhere in the world. You're not,
01:01:24and you open for what, 15 days a year? Yeah, we find that gives us a chance to work on the exhibition
01:01:30all year. And then we open up for the 15 days, we have thousands of people come through. No wonder
01:01:35there's so much demand. Well, I would love to see where the magic happens. Oh, well let's go up to the
01:01:40studio. Sounds good. I love the way you've coordinated the colours. Yeah, well we're really
01:01:58happy how these ones have turned out. So this is our new colour range, we're calling it Autumn. That
01:02:03would certainly suit my garden. Welcome to my studio. Look at this, this is a work of art all
01:02:15on its own. I love this. Now I'm just about to finish this piece, so let's just finish it off. Yeah,
01:02:22what are you making? It's obvious it's a wreath, right? Yeah, that's right, it's a love heart wreath.
01:02:27It's very popular. So what sort of materials do you like working with? So I've got the wire, which
01:02:33I really enjoy working with, and then the metal. It's my favourite material. I paint every flower
01:02:41individually. That would take a long time, all the painting you do. I spend probably 15 hours a day
01:02:48painting the flowers all through winter. I guess it's kind of therapeutic though, right? Yeah, it is.
01:02:54It's, I really enjoy it. I paint till maybe 10, 11 o'clock at night. Oh wow. Seven days a week.
01:03:00So what do we need to do to finish this one? Okay, so what we've got is we've got this little flower
01:03:04here. I've made the little centre. Out of the wire. Yeah. I love it. Put it on, and now we find
01:03:10the right spot for it, and we'll go here. You're really good with colour too, aren't you? It's like you,
01:03:16it's like looking at a colour wheel. Yeah, look, I enjoy colours, and each exhibition,
01:03:21I go for new colours. So how does that look? That looks really good. Can I go put it somewhere
01:03:28in the garden? Yeah, let's see what you can find. I think I saw the perfect spot.
01:03:32All right. Thank you so much, Peter.
01:03:34I think every door deserves a wreath, so that's perfect. You know, I love the idea
01:03:49that you could use sculpture like this to bring colour to the garden when it needs a lift or even
01:03:54all year round. So for example, at my place, I have a lot of perennials and deciduous trees,
01:03:59and so through the wintertime, it can be a little quiet in the garden. So wouldn't it be nice to
01:04:04rely on beautiful sculptures like this to bring extra impact to the garden? But there are lots
01:04:09of different ways you can use art in your home.
01:04:11We often think of using art in the garden as a focal point, but here it's been used to draw the eye to
01:04:29every level, from the ground story right through to the treetops.
01:04:32And if the garden is your canvas, then why not paint it with colour, from the rich autumnal hues
01:04:41through to the cooler pinks and blues. And I also love the way that you can use art in the garden
01:04:46to complement or offset different flowers. So how good do the white flowers look
01:04:51with the beautiful white blooms of the Mexican orange blossom?
01:05:05Shades of Grey proves that art doesn't just have to be reserved for inside your home.
01:05:09In fact, strategically placed art can take your whole garden to a new level.
01:05:14So why not take a leaf out of this gardens book and have some fun with sculpture at your place?
01:05:18Well, I hope you've enjoyed reliving some of those moments as much as I have.
01:05:23And if you're on a break, I hope you're having a fabulous time.
01:05:26Don't forget to join me again next Friday for more of our summer series stories.
01:05:30Say that three times quickly. I'll see you then. Bye-bye.
01:05:36Next time, Joanna's found a tasty way to help the environment.
01:05:41Believe it or not, I'm going to do my bit today by buying a morning coffee.
01:05:45You're never too old or young to enjoy working with wood.
01:05:51There's nothing better. That's why you do woodwork.
01:05:53Colin's cooking up a taste of the red centre.
01:05:56It doesn't get any more native than this. And you know what? It doesn't get any more delicious than this.
01:06:02Charlie's getting down and dirty to figure out what's wrong with this lawn.
01:06:07How about we do a bit of soil testing and see if there's something going on under the ground?
01:06:10Plus, if you didn't think you could fit a home office at your place, don't worry.
01:06:16I'm going to show you how to make an unused corner work for you.
01:06:19And Dr Harry visits a botanic garden with a surprise inside.
01:06:24Just over that hill is a zoo, am I right?
01:06:27Exactly. Lead me to the zoo. We've got lots to see.
01:06:30That's next time on Better Homes and Gardens.
01:06:34I'm going to show you how to make an thinly
01:06:49gardeners.
01:06:50That's right.
01:06:54It's my best friend.
