00:00Coach, let's talk about hot quarterbacks.
00:02Let's turn our attention to the Heisman Trophy.
00:05That's this coming weekend with the Army-Navy game
00:09and the one-bowl matchup, Boise State and Washington.
00:13When you look at the second half by Fernando Mendoza
00:16in that victory over top-ranked Ohio State,
00:19it just really solidified the fact that potentially
00:22Fernando Mendoza would win the Heisman,
00:25but Diego Pavia still within striking distance of at least going to New York.
00:31Do you give Diego Pavia any potential chance
00:34to steal the hardware this coming weekend?
00:38Well, I've said that before.
00:39He would be my choice.
00:41I think he is most deserving being the quarterback
00:43or the football player in football that did the most
00:46to show how good he is, how much he meant to that football team.
00:51But what Mendoza has done, and we know in the last 25 years,
00:55quarterbacks have won the Heisman 20 of those 25 years,
00:58what he has done, he's led his team to the undefeated playoffs.
01:02He's also made an incredible throw against Penn State
01:05to win a game everybody saw, and then he come back head-to-head
01:09against Sayan at Ohio State and outplayed him
01:13to win the Big Ten Championship.
01:15So he has enough pluses behind his name.
01:18He'll be hard to beat as far as the Heisman,
01:20because now all the games are in the well before voting starts.
01:24I just think if there's a little bit of publicity push
01:27and people will look at how much a quarterback did for their program
01:30and for their team, I still believe Diego Pavia did the most
01:34for college football, did the most for the Commodores this season.
01:38They were 10-2 overall, had an opportunity to maybe potentially
01:44make the college football playoff, but two losses on the road
01:48to Texas by three points and top-ranked Alabama, excuse me,
01:53kept the Commodores on the outside looking in.
01:56When you talk about their head coach, Clark Lee,
01:59he had come out and said that the Commodores had every opportunity
02:02to make the college football playoff.
02:05They didn't take care of business.
02:07Thoughts about Clark Lee's comments about Vanderbilt finishing the year
02:12at 10-2, but being left out of the playoff.
02:15And quite honestly, he gave accountability to his team
02:19for not stepping up.
02:21Well, great, great comments.
02:23I think he spoke as a head coach should speak.
02:26Their team represents their program and their university saying,
02:29hey, we had every opportunity, we lost two big games, someone else deserved it more,
02:35they were going to go with what they had, they're going to go to their bowl game
02:39because they're excited just to play football and to finish as a team together.
02:44I think that's what it was about.
02:45And I think as we have seen a lot of the comments, a lot of the articles out there,
02:49the athletic director at Notre Dame who criticized openly the Atlantic Coast Conference
02:54for the statements they made, chose not to go to a bowl game,
02:58I don't think that gives us the type of leadership that we need to lead those players
03:03as that, hey, we don't take our ball and go home when it doesn't go our way.
03:07We take what happens, we say we did our best, and we'll go from there.
