00:00So I saw the beginning of season two. It's really great. My first question is what kind of side, a very different side we're going to see of Gus this season now that he's in captivity with the other hybrids. What can you describe about what he's going through?
00:13Well, I think he's a more mature Gus in season two. You know, I think in season one, the fun of it was that he was just so fresh and doe eyed and, you know, and you're showing him this world. And then in season two, he's actually seen a lot of that world and seen a lot of things, you know, more so than even we've seen in our world.
00:27So that was a big thing to sort of get the tone right for him was just this is a grown up version of him.
00:33And whereas season one, he was, you know, just a little boy looking for a family.
00:38By the beginning of season two, he's actually found that family. But now he's got to hang on to him and hold on to him and take the things that he's learned from Jepperd and from his father.
00:45So it's a more mature Gus. And I think it's a Gus that learns that he's got to become a leader in season two.
00:50Yeah, we see a partnership form with Jepperd and Amy this season. How formidable of a duo do you think those two are? And are there potential trust issues there?
01:01Definitely. Yeah. I mean, that was the fun of those two is really these kind of alpha dog stories and having to put those two together.
01:07And really, you know, I think the fun of season one was Becky and Jepperd, you know, sort of had a generational thing that was going on.
01:13And then in season two, I really related to Amy because, you know, our sort of our thought from her was like she just hasn't really been around people for 10 years, you know,
01:21and it was sort of like when the pandemic was kind of winding down, you were starting to come out of your home for the first time and interact with people.
01:27And this is how weird that was. Like, that was the fun thing to think about that through Amy's point of view.
01:31Then against Jepperd, who has sort of chosen to be a loner his whole life. So that was really fun.
01:36I love both those guys. And Dania in particular is really great this season.
01:40Yeah. Yeah. They're both great. I got to talk to them earlier. They're super nice.
01:44We get to see more of some of the hybrids, too, since they're all together in captivity.
01:48We see their dynamics with Gus and Wendy. What can you tell us about some of the other hybrids that we're going to get to know a little bit more this season?
01:55Yeah. So we have a dozen new hybrids this season.
01:59Some of them way more human or way more animal even than Gus.
02:04So we have a bunch. We have Maya, who's a monkey.
02:07She can. She's kind of a gymnast and she can use her tail.
02:11We have Teddy, who is a turtle, who sings.
02:15His parents raised him off of TV shows and radio.
02:19So he sings. And we also have Earl, who's an elephant, who is probably our most, in a lot of ways, most animal.
02:26And, yeah, there's a bunch this season.
02:30But it's really fun this season to get to take all these different characters and throw them into the same scene together was pretty cool.
02:37And having to pull off the prosthetics, the puppetry that goes into them was a very cool challenge.
02:42Shout out to the costume team or whoever's involved in that, because that is very impressive from the very first episode.
02:48It's very impressive.
02:49Yeah, good, good. Yeah, that was still a little bit scarred from that.
02:53I'm sure. The kids probably are, too.
02:56As the developer, how cognizant are you of kind of staying true to the source material versus adding its own flair to the television show?
03:04Well, I think, luckily, I think the bones of the story are always there, of the comic book are always there.
03:09And, you know, especially where we ended season one was almost literally where one of the comic book arcs ends, different circumstances in the comic.
03:19But so I think you branch off from there and you start to tell those stories.
03:22But I think the beauty is the characters take their own take on their own lives as you go.
03:26You know, and a lot of times you start with the character that they are in the book, but you start to understand, like, how they got there and who they are.
03:32And you start to add these other dimensions to them.
03:34And then the actors come in and, you know, they add all these new unexpected turns to it, which is wonderful.
03:40So I think when you come into a season two, you understand who the characters are in the show and you're writing towards that.
03:45And what's cool is oftentimes you go back and go, like, that's literally where the comic literally intersected with the comic book.
03:52And you just kind of know that you're playing in the same waters that Jeff is when that happens.
03:56But we didn't really have a mandate to say we're going to be, you know, 80 percent or 90 percent or 60 percent.
04:01I think you just tell the best story for the best television show.
04:04And luckily, we still wind up being pretty faithful.
04:07Absolutely. And just my last question. Are there plans for season three?
04:10Do you guys kind of have the story mapped out?
04:12I mean, obviously, their story comes from the comic book, but where are you guys at in terms of season three right now?
04:17Yeah. I mean, really, season two, it sounds like cliche, but really season two is the big focus.
04:22So we just did our last visual effects shot we started off this weekend and it's going in.
04:26So it's like we're going to be hot off the press and go into that.
04:28So, yeah, lots of thoughts. But, yeah, I see how season.
