00:00There's a little bit of a tiff when Damon Albarn said that he that she, quote, doesn't write her own songs and, quote, co-writing doesn't count.
00:11You are one of the most renowned and celebrated songwriters in music history.
00:17I was wondering if you've ever faced any similar comments in your legendary career.
00:23Well, first of all, I don't care what other people say about my songs, but with Taylor, she's a great writer with or without anybody.
00:31And it's not true. When you co-write a song, you work just as hard because sometimes you work harder, you know, with a co-writer because you want to be sure to do your part and not make it like somebody would say, you know, this or that.
00:44But sometimes people have a great melody or a few good lines. But there's a lot to be said about co-writing.
00:51And I don't write a lot with other people, mostly just because my writing is so personal rather than thinking about what I'm going to put on on a record.
01:00I just write whatever is coming out right now. But I don't like to judge other other people and their problems.
01:08But it's just like all the stuff that happens, like with Britney Spears and with when they get controversy about all that.
01:16You have to kind of stand up for yourself. You have to you're allowed to be you.
01:21And if it's you that's making the money and it's you, that's, you know, that the one that they're putting out there like a product or something.
01:29We're not products. We're people. We we agree to a degree. You are a product to a certain degree.
01:35But you know that. But you but that's just call your brand, you know, that sort of thing, just like me selling cakes.
01:41And like as enough years go by your name and your reputation, people know if you're selling something, you know, it's going to be a good product.
01:49And you you know, you want to be able to do a lot of things because there's a lot of money in that that you can donate to charity or or help your family with.
01:57And so I do a lot of things like that. But I don't I really get rubbed wrong sometimes when people mistreat the artist.
02:07I don't like that. No, I think she's Taylor has been very I think she's been a really good example in defending her legacy and not allowing people to diminish her or
02:22like shove her to the side. And no, I think that's very admirable.
02:29Yeah, I do, too. I completely get that. And she's she's magnificent.
02:34And I think she's done great. And that's one of the things I admire about her because she's never sold herself.
02:39She's never felt she's had to sell her body or to do whatever.
02:44She's always had good taste in how she's presented herself and and with her songs.
02:49And she's very creative and very, very, very smart in the marketing of her life.
02:54She knows who she is and what she wants. And and I'm the same way.
02:58I'm not going to, you know, I'm going to fight, you know, if it gets goes against what I feel is not right for me.
