00:00White, white, white. Oh, that's a stupid accent.
00:02I said to Jed, do you either need to get me a couple of days for one game or kill me off?
00:06Because I am going.
00:06I am glad it's out because I can stop fibbing to people like yourself.
00:11Oh, no, look at this.
00:13Watch your head, watch your head.
00:14It's yourself. Fancy meeting you here.
00:16How are you, pal? How are you?
00:17I'm all the better for seeing you.
00:19Yeah, good to see you.
00:20It's a nice wee Caledonian reunion, isn't it?
00:22Celtic connection.
00:23Even on this as well, we've got Dougie and we've got Sharon.
00:26Yeah, we've got all the Scottish connections.
00:27It's a very pro-Caledonia show, I feel.
00:29I know, just off the back of the World Cup, it's been a good year.
00:32Listen, we'll talk about the World Cup.
00:34But we need to talk about the show first.
00:36Listen, your character in this, in the trailer, it says you're like a pound shop, Ocean's Eleven.
00:41Is that how we're describing this?
00:43Johnny, one of the things I love about the show is you can't quite pin it down.
00:47It's part comedy, part drama, part caper.
00:50But it packs an emotional punch as well.
00:52You know, I think what's really defined about it, which I love about it,
00:55like I love films like Horrible Bosses, but you're very aware who the baddies are in this.
00:59But us as the ones who's taking the revenge, we've got quite questionable morals at times as well.
01:06So I'm excited about it, great fun, bit out of my comfort zone playing comedy and stuff,
01:11but really supportive team.
01:13I mean, I mean, the scenes when there was like the six of us together, it was just, it felt, it felt electric.
01:18What do you mean comedy's out of your comfort zone? You're a funny guy.
01:21But that's the thing, I think with all that stuff,
01:23because I feel like I'm quite happy-go-lucky in my real life,
01:26that I tend to get these dark parts and angry parts when I play them,
01:30but I feel like all that kind of emotion, I kind of weirdly save up my real life
01:34and then let it all out into my characters and it's a great outlet.
01:37Yeah, but nobody ever really comes to it.
01:39I mean, the only other comedy I've ever done was playing Madure in a Band-Aid thing,
01:43but that always stayed with me, that I had such fun doing it,
01:46and I thought, I hope something else comes along at some point,
01:48and yeah, Revenge Club just popped up.
01:51Well, on that note, I think the best type of revenge is just to move on and thrive,
01:55but obviously, you know, a wee bit of toxicity now and then, it's good for the soul,
01:58do you know what I mean?
01:59So I like to do things out of spite now,
02:01so if somebody tells me, you can't do that, I'm like, I'll show you.
02:04Have you had that in your career as well,
02:06where somebody's said, you're not going to be able to do that and you've done it?
02:08Well, I think you're right, but see, we're getting older,
02:12I kind of like, you get comfortable in your own skin,
02:15and you start going, I really don't care what people think of me,
02:18but in terms of like, yeah, I used to be quite like that,
02:21but then it's even, I think even with social media and that now,
02:24where you'd spend the whole day arguing in your head with somebody you've never met,
02:28now I'm just like, just stay off it.
02:29Like, as long as my family's happy and my pals are happy,
02:31that's all I really care about.
02:33Yeah, because it can eat you up, you know,
02:36you can waste a lot of energy instead of like sitting playing with my son,
02:40you're worrying about what somebody on Twitter,
02:42who you're never, ever going to meet, said about you.
02:44I know, exactly.
02:45I'm going to get there one day.
02:46I'm glad that you, I'm glad the growth's happened for you.
02:49It's got a few more years for me, I think.
02:50I think in terms of revenge,
02:51is what I always love doing.
02:52My spiteful thing is, I love,
02:54see you're walking,
02:55when you just walk through a door,
02:56I love to see how far somebody back,
02:59like holding a door up for them
03:00and making them apologise to you for you being an idiot,
03:03for like holding it,
03:04making them do that wee run.
03:06But then that's the thing,
03:07because then you feel like you need to run
03:09and then it's a hole.
03:09Yeah, I know, I love it.
03:11I always try to see how far I can get away with somebody
03:13to see how far I can make them run.
03:15Right, listen,
03:15my favourite moment from Line of Duty
03:17isn't even from the show,
03:18it's the behind the scenes clip
03:19that you shared with Scotland getting into the Euros.
03:22Yeah.
03:22Because you were in character,
03:23you were in English,
03:24and then as soon as Scotland scored,
03:26you were like, yes!
03:27Well, typical Scotland,
03:28because they gave us,
03:30we were winning,
03:31and then so,
03:32and they gave me off to watch the game,
03:34and then we went to extra time and penalty,
03:35so like we need to start filming,
03:37so I'd literally had it in DS Arnott's at the time
03:40in his car radio,
03:42and then we were about to do the raid,
03:44and I was like,
03:45look, just white, white, white,
03:48oh, that stupid accent.
03:49It was an amazing moment,
03:51and I just feel like,
03:51but that Hamden game there,
03:53I don't think that'll ever be topped.
03:55But how is it going to work?
03:56Because obviously it's next summer,
03:58and you're filming Lane of Duty in the spring,
04:00so how are you going to get the time off?
04:01Well, I know,
04:01I said to Jed,
04:02you either need to get me a couple of days for one game,
04:04or kill me off,
04:05because I am going.
04:07I've been waiting for this since I was 14 years old.
04:10I mean,
04:10I won't get to all of it,
04:11which, I mean,
04:12is heartbreaking.
04:14I mean,
04:15but I definitely,
04:15you need to experience something.
04:17It's been far too long for all of us.
04:19I was 14 in 98,
04:21and I remember saying to my pals at the time,
04:23I'll be 18 the next one,
04:24we're all going to go,
04:24and I'm in my 40s now.
04:26It's been too long coming,
04:28but all the better for it now.
04:30Can you just sponsor all of Scotland to come,
04:32because it's a fortune.
04:33Have you seen the prices?
04:34Well, that's what people don't get,
04:35because obviously I've got my place in Vegas,
04:37as well as the place in Guignac,
04:38and I've got mates texting me,
04:41going like,
04:41can I crash at yours?
04:42And I'm like,
04:43the game's a six-hour flight away, mate.
04:44You're just as quick flying from here to Boston
04:47as you are from my place.
04:49Right, but listen,
04:50line of duty,
04:51how relieved do you feel now
04:52that people can't come up to you
04:53and go,
04:53when's it coming back?
04:55You know what?
04:58It's one of them things,
04:59I got to a place in my life,
05:00I'm lucky it came later,
05:01but I'm just proud of it.
05:02So the day people stop asking me about it,
05:04it'll be a sad day.
05:05I'm really happy how much it's loved.
05:07What I am glad is it's out,
05:09because I can stop fibbing to people like yourself.
05:12You listen,
05:13you could never let me in,
05:14I knew I could see through it.
05:15I just thought,
05:15do you know what,
05:15I'll wait,
05:16I'll wait until the official announcement comes out.
05:18And as well,
05:18because we knew it had been coming for a while,
05:20but it's like,
05:21it wasn't definite,
05:22we didn't have any dates,
05:22so there's no point saying to somebody,
05:24I were back,
05:24and then still nothing's happened for three years,
05:27going on to five now.
05:29But yeah,
05:29I'm glad it's out there,
05:30especially just before you start a junket.
05:32You know,
05:33it's nice to get it out
05:35and get people excited,
05:36and then you can kind of put it on the back burner,
05:38let everybody enjoy Christmas
05:39and then come out swinging in the new year.
05:41Absolutely,
05:42and watch this as well.
05:43And then you're also in Red Eye,
05:44you've got your Vegas dot coming up.
05:46I mean,
05:46it's literally the MCU,
05:48Martin Compton Universe,
05:49honestly.
05:49Thank you, mate,
05:50it's been a good year,
05:51but you know,
05:51I'm under no illusions how lucky I am right now.
05:54Our industry's in a,
05:55it's been a tough spot,
05:56and there's a lot of phenomenal actors out of work,
05:58so I'm just very grateful
06:00that I seem to be on a bit of a run at the minute,
06:02and yeah,
06:03hopefully it continues.
06:04Amazing,
06:04well,
06:05I'll see you at the World Cup.
06:05I'll see you at the World Cup, pal.
06:07Thank you so much.
