00:00It's who has the bigger weapon, you know, Rocky has no chance at all.
00:04He's going to get shot.
00:05It is lovely to meet you.
00:07Someone who has watched your career for my entire life, it's honestly a genuine honor.
00:12I'm very flattered, thank you.
00:13You are four years almost into Tulsa King.
00:17Do you still get that same excitement to like go to work and to inhabit this character?
00:24Yeah, because I get to repair things.
00:26What I mean is, I'll look at Rocky, I'll look at Rambo, and they were successful.
00:31I still go, I should have done that.
00:33Why didn't they go there?
00:34Why did we use that color?
00:35But with Tulsa King, it's fixable.
00:39In other words, you have another season.
00:42The way he dresses, it's going to shift radically next season because it has to.
00:48It's all a character thing.
00:49So these little tweaks, and then you get to tweak the other actors.
00:53You know what?
00:54I'm going to put you in this, put you in that.
00:55And you don't get that in films.
00:57It's true.
00:57It's gone, done, you know, 12 weeks, chow.
01:00Yeah.
01:01Forever.
01:01Wow, yeah, that is exciting then to be able to.
01:03It's very.
01:04It's like getting to redecorate your house every week.
01:07I mean, I would hate that.
01:10Because I avoid that at all costs, but I get what you mean.
01:13Yeah.
01:14I imagine it's also still really lovely to get to go to work and have your daughter there
01:18as well.
01:19Has that changed?
01:19Well, my daughter and my wife is like a producer, so.
01:22Amazing.
01:23Bookend.
01:23Yeah.
01:24But has it changed your relationship with your daughter now, almost maybe having someone
01:29who can share the acting side of things?
01:31Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:33She's a little bit more kind of like, of course, with her generation, she's much more versed
01:40in the constant, the present technology.
01:42All my daughters, they knew things I have no idea.
01:45I'm always referencing things from the 80s and 70s.
01:48You know what I mean?
01:49And they're in the future.
01:51My God, they're gamers.
01:52They do all that stuff.
01:54But having them on the set, it's such a reminder how fast time goes.
02:00I mean, she was in my palm like this.
02:02I mean, now, she's on her own.
02:07And as I'm coming to that, she has a big voice, like deep.
02:11And I can hear her coming down the hall.
02:14I go, there it is.
02:16There's your offspring.
02:17That's a moment of pride, right?
02:18Yeah, exactly.
02:20That's so wonderful.
02:21That's so wonderful.
02:22If you could pick Dwight up and put him into any of these Taylor Sheridan worlds,
02:28like where do you think he would thrive?
02:30Him?
02:31Yeah.
02:31Oh, yeah, because he's a networker as opposed to a villainous guy who wants to.
02:38That was the way it was conceived originally, is that he was a dark thug.
02:43And I said, you know, why don't we make him?
02:46And that's when we put him in prison, gave him a daughter, his wife left him.
02:50In other words, what people go through.
02:52So it's identifiable.
02:55And Taylor was very accommodating because I wanted to give him a kind of a wit, funny, dark,
03:02gothic humor, and it all went.
03:05So it's different than the other shows because he kind of lets us do our thing.
03:11It is impossible not to like your character, though, because he's played by you.
03:15It doesn't matter what he does.
03:17It's like, oh, it's you.
03:19Oh, okay.
03:20I was trying to make him like, oh, I'd have him over for dinner as opposed to Rambo.
03:27Right.
03:28Although now, like, the discussion has always been throughout your career who would win
03:33between Rocky and Rambo.
03:35But now if we add Dwight into the mix, who's winning out of those three?
03:40It's who has the bigger weapon.
03:41You know, Rocky has no chance at all.
03:44He's going to get shot.
03:45See, Rambo attacks from behind.
03:47It's like you never know.
03:49He's going to drop out of a tree.
03:50It's kind of scary.
03:51That is very true.
03:53I love that we got to learn that Dwight's thing was breadstick dunking.
03:58It's true.
03:58I like learning the little things about characters that you...
04:01I had no idea that's so strange.
04:04When I brought it up, people were like, come on.
04:07Dipping bread in wine is a very Italian thing.
04:11I've never...
04:11No, no one...
04:11But it's a real peasant-y thing to do.
04:14Is it also a Stallone thing?
04:15Is it your thing as well?
04:17It's a real low-life thing.
04:20It is.
04:21But it's really good.
04:22I enjoy it.
04:23Next time, folks, just dip your bread, Italian bread, into your wine and...
04:27Is there anything else that I should learn like that?
04:29That's pretty...
04:30Well, grappa, but you don't need that.
04:33Okay.
04:33And listen, like I said, I have watched you my entire life.
04:36You've had this phenomenal career.
04:38What would you say, actually, is your advice to having a lasting legacy in Hollywood?
04:44To simplify it is, we're not as talented or as facile or versatile as you tend to think.
04:53Everyone has a special thing.
04:56It's a look, an attitude.
04:58You identify with comedy.
04:59You identify with violence.
05:00You identify with being stoic.
05:03And you focus on that.
05:05For example, in Tulsa King, right?
05:08The fellow who's made a career, like Bodie, that's his thing.
05:13Right.
05:14And he does it, and he does it well, and no one does it better.
05:17But all of a sudden, you don't see him with a crew cut and blonde hair.
05:21He goes, this is my thing, and I'm going to be the best at it.
05:24So I suggest, if you can, really be a specialist in one area and then try to be the best
05:33you can on that.
05:34But if you're trying to, oh, I think I'll do a musical.
05:37I think I'll do this.
05:39You know, maybe I'll do, you know, crazy comedy, and then I want to do something incredibly dramatic, Shakespeare.
05:47No.
05:48It's a waste of time because you're always going to be hired, eventually, as a type.
05:53I'm a type, I'm a type, De Niro's a type, but you know, Clint Eastwood, they're types.
05:58Yeah.
05:59You know, and when you vacillate from that, the audience gets angry.
06:03Well, we're very happy with what you've done.
06:05Like, you are phenomenal.
06:07I'm so glad that you're still making TV, making movies.
06:10That's very sweet.
06:11It is wonderful.
06:11I can't wait to read your memoir because that looks incredible.
06:15I appreciate that.
06:16Lovely to meet you.
06:17I know.
06:17Thank you so much.
06:18Bye now.
06:19Take care.
06:19Take care.
06:20Take care.
06:20Nice to see you.
06:21You can take it.
