00:00This morning, the battle to buy Warner Brothers, Discovery and the future of CNN is getting even
00:08louder. And President Trump is now weighing in. With an all-out bidding war underway and
00:13questions swirling about his son-in-law, Jared Kushner's financial stake, the president was
00:18asked how much he intends to steer himself and changes he'd want at CNN.
00:23I'm not involved in that. I will be probably involved, maybe involved in the decision. It
00:28depends. You have some good companies bidding on it. I think the people that have run CNN for the
00:35last long period of time are a disgrace. I think it's imperative that CNN be so because you certainly
00:43wouldn't want to put people, just leave those people with some money, good money, and CNN so that
00:51they can spend even more money spreading poison because it's lies.
00:55Trump's comments come as Paramount Skydance, led by David Ellison, son of Larry Ellison,
01:02launched a hostile takeover bid to buy the entire Warner Brothers company. That bid directly competes
01:07with Netflix, which just struck a deal for Warner Brothers studio and streaming business, but not
01:13CNN. Under that plan, CNN and the Turner networks would be spun off into a new company. One wrinkle
01:19getting attention? Paramount's offer has financing from Jared Kushner's private equity firm, though
01:25Trump says he has not talked with Kushner about it. Ellison has also signaled he would make major
01:31editorial changes at CNN if he wins, a shift Trump has publicly praised, and one that could loom large
01:37as the White House weighs the deal.
