00:00crisis we've ever had we need to build homes faster and more efficiently for all budgets
00:07and all Australians and that's exactly what future house is all about
00:12our mission is to build three houses for three families in just three months
00:22for three different budgets using three different modern methods of construction
00:30now we may not solve australia's housing crisis but we're going to give this a red-hot go
00:35previously we met our three brave families who are joining us on this mission the fox family in
00:45the blue mountains of new south wales are building two modular homes me and helen are in the process
00:51of separating so we want separate houses but we still want her to be close to where our daughter
00:57is the quichini family from canberra are building a precast concrete home we have two beautiful
01:04children and a third one on the way unbelievable at the same time we're building a house
01:09and us the juries in the northern rivers of new south wales are building a 3d concrete printed
01:17home i'm having heart palpitations just thinking about it
01:21i didn't know it was coming today no hey there's not my sign but as you can imagine three houses
01:31in three months the system is ridiculous well it's never going to be easy
01:36well there's no turning back now
01:42tonight the fox family get off to a flying star these are your two houses wow but it's not all smooth
01:52sailing it's kind of emotional still after months of red tape and frustration it's geronimo at sean's
02:01house and builder love goes to a whole new level i love you oh i love you too buddy
02:06and my first look at my dream 3d printed home this looks incredible mate look at the tree look at
02:14the tree blows my mind before it's back to the drawing board no no no no no no no
02:19off he goes
02:27our farm in the northern rivers is our little piece of paradise
02:35but right now it's a demolition site
02:40my mate dazzler is finishing off taking down the old caretaker's cottage
02:54so we can build a new 3d printed concrete house in its place
02:59i can't wait to get started but first we need to salvage everything that's worth saving
03:07yes save it that's good i need long pieces long all the hardwood
03:15and there's always some gold nuggets to be found amongst the rust
03:21after the cottage came down i thought well i'm going to salvage all of that beautiful hardwood
03:27because it was at least 70 years old and it's in perfect condition
03:32and hopefully we're going to find ways to reuse that in the new build
03:36okay that's a beauty
03:40well these are going to become the the jams the door jams
03:48for all the new windows and doors
03:51so that gets fixed up against the 3d printed wall
03:54and then inside here
03:56yeah is where the new windows get fixed in
03:58and then your architraves go on the outside
04:00amazing yeah we save all this beautiful wood
04:04great job
04:05but these beautiful old beams aren't the only thing we're saving
04:10all the concrete timber and steel in this old shed will live to build another day
04:18all flat beautiful
04:22so now that we're here
04:27yeah we can orientate the house like that
04:30yeah we'll get beautiful northern light straight into the front of the house
04:33i think dreaming up your vision at the start is always the favorite process
04:38talking about your hopes and dreams and how you see yourself living on the land
04:44and then coming up here every time to sight
04:47and we all seem to decompress a little bit and relax
04:50but now all of a sudden it's a build site
04:53and the stress seems to have followed us to our tranquility
04:57in canberra the corchinis have chosen to build their family home
05:07with pre-cast concrete from resi cast
05:10mate i tell you what what a cracker of a day
05:14yeah how lucky are we
05:15oh we should be at the beach mate
05:17only we're in canberra
05:18after months of wading through red tape
05:22today is a big step forward
05:24it's knockdown day
05:26builder mick and owner sean can barely wait to begin
05:30especially as mick's made some pretty big promises
05:33gonna lock the four betty up for sean and sarah and the kids in 10 days
05:38pretty exciting isn't it
05:41it's been coming for so long
05:42i was at the point where i was ready to get the sledgehammer and just start doing it myself
05:46do you need a hug or are you okay
05:48oh give us a hug
05:49there you go buddy
05:52i feel better now
05:54are you doing okay
05:55oh mate i'm happy as larry
05:57if we get to start
05:57yeah
05:58yeah here it goes
06:01oh
06:01well i hope you don't change your mind
06:07there goes the dining room
06:10here comes the brickwork
06:14so the kids have been watching from home we've had them on the video phone so they can see a lot of it
06:23for all sean's excitement their family home still holds precious memories
06:35i'm actually getting a little bit emotional at this point you know just watching it all go
06:41so mick
06:47this
06:48right here
06:49used to be a gazebo
06:50so back in the day they used to hold weddings right here
06:54weddings
06:54yeah
06:55in the backyard
06:56in the backyard
06:56so yeah
06:57in the backyard
06:58i love you
06:59oh i love you too buddy
07:01it's really nice how well sean and mick seem to get along
07:06it's just such a lovely working relationship
07:09and i think we'll end up with a better house because of that
07:13look at the mess
07:15you could have cleaned up for our wedding
07:16look at the mess
07:17hey
07:17it's not a very good start to our relationship
07:19you know maybe if we get a divorce you can have the house now
07:24i'll get the house in the divorce
07:27that's it i'm done i'm going
07:29in the blue mountains west of sydney
07:40after 40 years together
07:42michael and helen fox are building two houses on the same block of land
07:47me and helen
07:48we're in the process of separating so we want separate houses
07:53they've chosen to live side by side
07:56so they can both continue to give care to daughter caitlin
07:59there you go
08:02come on darling
08:03good girl
08:04come on
08:04there's a lot of work behind the scenes you know that goes into caring
08:09for someone with special needs especially high support needs
08:12we just went to bed and i said look i really don't want you having to move far away it's not fair
08:16so now we're building one each on the same block
08:20we'll have all of our own kitchen lounge room dining bathroom and laundry and we'll actually have a room each for caitlin
08:28they'll some they're small rooms but we have all that we need that's all that we need
08:34yeah so
08:37so here is where mummy's house is this is a bit strange isn't it
08:41yeah
08:41because mummy's got a house and daddy's got a house but this is mummy's house and caitlin's house
08:46and caitlin's room is going to be over there
08:49over there yeah
08:50nothing's really changed the only difference is that we're going to live or i'm going to live my life more independently
08:56i've been with him for like since i was 21
09:01you know it's lots and lots of years and i haven't experienced any other life
09:06doing any anything else really so um
09:09yeah it might sound strange to a lot of people
09:14um yeah
09:16still emotional
09:19but at the same time yeah it'd be good
09:21yeah good luck to you come and have a look
09:29um yeah i think i'm i'm coping pretty well with it now it's uh initially it was difficult
09:37you think your life's all set and then everything changes
09:44yeah it makes you feel quite down for quite a while it takes a while to get over the shock of that and
09:50uh adapt to it it sounds quite selfish you know in one way that you want to do your own thing
09:57but at the same time it's healthy because you are
10:05yeah sorry it's kind of emotional still
10:10coming up can nick realize my vision there's a staircase it's like morse code it's like it's
10:26like an atom bomb look i love him i understand him uh and i think we'll get somewhere and still to come
10:32it's really a matter of choosing what sort of colorings we're thinking for both the homes
10:39that's just splitting it up it's one of the advantages we can choose whatever we want
10:42and blow what the other wants the more things change okay it seems the more they stay the same
10:48are you gonna say the same thing we're gonna put the same flooring in and of course you copied me
10:53well yeah there you go on our farm in the northern rivers of new south wales it's a big day after
11:07months of back and forth nick from contour 3d is here to show me what i hope will be the final designs
11:13for our new 3d printed concrete house good to see you good to be welcome to the homestead thank you
11:18i should have brought my jacket a sweet chili yeah it is when we first met nick he inspired us with
11:26the capabilities of 3d concrete printing and i want to use those capabilities to bring nature
11:33into our build i love the idea of having these beautiful concrete trees yeah mixed in with a real
11:40tree yep that might sit in the center of the house would that work it would no no genuinely
11:46you know the printer doesn't care it'll do whatever you put in there within reasons nick claims that
11:52with 3d printing almost anything is possible and in our initial design session i gave him a clear plan
12:00of exactly what i'm after that's a staircase uh i have to work that one out later it's like morse code
12:07uh and uh this looks like a uh it's like it's like an atom bomb i don't know so look between between
12:15all these uh look i love him i understand him uh and i think we'll get somewhere
12:21i realize i'm asking for a lot here but it's not unlike me to push the boundaries yeah there you go
12:28so here's the model which i'm hoping we can still bring some of these beautiful you know tree-like
12:33columns back into the house the challenge is has nick realized my vision well this is the tree
12:44that started the whole conversation look at these buttress roots coming out i love the way the roots
12:50come down and it feels like it's just completely bedded into the landscape it's planted yeah and this
12:59is what we've tried to mimic you know in the 3d absolutely yeah yeah yeah i mean i just love the
13:04shape the contours you'll look out from the window yep through these concrete columns yep with a tree
13:12that's shaped exactly as it should it's amazing yeah biomimicry biomimicry yeah it's where we mimic nature
13:21and the idea of having the roof rest on a forest of concrete trees i love shall we shall we see it
13:32come on is this the final draft it's the final okay great spin it around all righty okay uh so this is
13:39the the actual layout and i think we've uh i think we've all settled on as you walk through the front
13:43door here yep uh and look it's just it'll be it'll be stunning oh it's beautiful and with a combination of
13:49the windows and the 3d printed columns yeah you know there's no post finishing of the walls yep
13:53yep you know it's all organic it's magic columns look stunning yeah you know part of nature yeah
14:00they do we'll get them in in less than a day really it moves rapidly we'll be printing at 200
14:05millimeters a second no it just rises out of the ground so quicker than watering a tree
14:13if we get this right yep this could be an absolute game changer this might be the way that
14:19people build their new houses before this you know and all credit to you i'd never thought of
14:24colonizing a house i suppose well i hadn't either but i was sitting out here and i looked at the tree
14:29and i'm like we should just print a tree and print and print many trees and then put the roof on top of
14:36it i'm excited mate me too i mean this is this is revolutionary there's never been a 3d concrete
14:43printed prefab house so you'll be you'll be first we will be first yes we will be first i don't know
14:50if i'm crazy brave or stupid but this 3d printed concrete house is either going to be something
14:57very special or a huge white elephant in a beautiful forest
15:06if we're going to build houses for the future we've got to make them more resilient for australia's
15:11changing weather conditions hey meeks yeah come and check this out this is amazing there's a new
15:18online tool that helps identify weather risks for wherever you live it even provides tips on how to
15:25make your home more resilient so suncorp insurance have developed this website we're just punching
15:32our address here yeah and there you go wow how cool is that it's me your home it's good to finally chat
15:42our house talks to us can you believe i'm over 100 years old oh yep which is why we need to have a
15:50serious chat about my resilience they say a home like me is a high risk for bushfires this website
15:57works for everyone's area so everyone just punches in their own address whether you're in canberra or
16:02the blue mountains or here in bangalow but that's incredible i mean that's a fantastic tool for people
16:07that are moving into a property climate change is something that's really relevant to everybody
16:12you can see your own house you can see what risks are relevant to you see what you can do about them
16:16anyway thanks for the chat i really appreciate you taking the time to listen and they've even used
16:24a fairly elderly voice no because she's 100 years old like that's her house right
16:33while i'm still mucking around with concrete tree designs for our 3d printed house
16:38in the blue mountains the fox's two modular homes are well on their way
16:48these are your two houses wow
16:52this all started last friday both houses frames and crosses are up and you know we are well ahead of
16:58time tomorrow we'll what we call ruffins so the electrical plumbing and the air well i think you know
17:04we'll achieve lock up in the next two weeks well ahead of time as well wow they're going very
17:09well that's good we better start packing yeah they've chosen the snow gum 60 design two bedrooms
17:17with built-in robes separate bathroom and laundry open plan lounge and kitchen with an island bench
17:23there's a lot packed into this 60 square meters oh it's fantastic it's uh yeah really good very happy
17:30with everything yeah it's brilliant come and see what stage they're at they're moving along really
17:35fast it's incredible the amount of work these guys have put together in less than a week
17:41the modular building process is not unlike building a lightweight house
17:46the only difference is it takes place indoors last week it was just raining cats and dogs okay but then
17:54our factory was just busy ass you know we were still continuing to build and you know we didn't
17:58have any issues we didn't have to stop because of the inclement weather okay that's one of the
18:03biggest advantages that we take with the modular with michael and helen's house construction forging
18:11ahead they're keen to decide on their flooring and carpet court has made an on-site visit with their
18:17mobile showroom to help them choose so this particular range here is the park here collection
18:23a feature that i think is really important with this product it's got the wood shield and top
18:29coating on it so you're going to find it's going to be really hard and sturdy for you with their
18:35daughter caitlin in mind the parky floor is the perfect option as it's resilient and easy to maintain
18:42the other thing that i love about this product is it's sustainable so it actually uses 25
18:48percent less wood than other standard timber floors wow so it's really a matter of choosing
18:56what sort of colorings we're thinking for both the homes yeah i like uh probably a lighter color
19:04because i'm gonna have dark walls okay but also a natural looking timber it was an opportunity to
19:11choose different different ones so we could be you know as we're splitting it up it's one of the
19:16advantages we can choose whatever we want blow what the other wants and we'll do our own thing
19:22you know okay yeah i was thinking originally going for something a bit darker but i've actually come
19:29back to the natural oak are you gonna say the same thing we're gonna put the same flooring in i love it
19:37look let's get this clear i picked first all along i wanted this particular one the natural oak
19:43okay okay i liked its warmth and lighter tone and then of course you copied me well yeah there you go
19:51what more can i say
19:52in canberra the cochinis have knocked down their house but now builder mick and owner sean have hit a
20:12major red tape hurdle do you know much about the solar encroachment as much as any layman's person can
20:20and my understanding is it's about preventing my house blocking the solar effect on the neighbor's
20:27house that's right so you don't want to block them yeah which kind of makes sense because i'm designing
20:30this house to maximize the solar effect we want to let everybody else do the same thing in sean's case
20:36the solar encroachment rules require his house to be built two meters from the neighbor's fence to a
20:42wall height of just 1.8 meters so this has to go down another 900 to reach the finished floor level
20:51i mean look if i'm about two meters tall oh yeah two meters out there's a shadow there it doesn't
20:58even hit the neighbor's yard and we're in the middle doesn't even make it up my fence my fence
21:02is doing more damage to their solar envelope than the house will well true isn't it this really is red
21:09tape gone mad so really half a meter down will be your finished floor you're going to be down in a
21:14hole yeah and what you're saying is i could probably bring the house up and and change that but i'd have
21:21to go through a da you'd have to go through a da sean now faces some difficult choices endure the long
21:29delay of applying for a da or lower the level of his house and cop the extra cost of excavating
21:36hundreds of tons of additional soil i'm just going to spend the money and not wait
21:45well it's cheaper for you to spend the money than why it's three times as much in rent correct yeah yeah
21:53it's not even day one and we're already and we're already 20 grand in the hole which is not even a
21:59hole yet
22:08rex and high tech aren't the only modular home builder going from strength to strength i'm heading to
22:14queensland to see how another modular construction business ollie homes is growing to meet demand
22:20ceo dale funston explains how far they've come since he joined 15 years ago so back then how long
22:30did it take to build one of these a small one of these about eight months eight months eight months
22:35and what are you building them at now uh probably the four piece one eight weeks unbelievable yeah
22:42com bank has led the way when it comes to modular housing loans and business lending we know that
22:50housing supply is a real challenge yeah and prefabricated housing is one way which we really
22:56think can help mobilize supply let's go and have a look at the finish right beautiful
23:01why did com bank get behind prefab yeah i mean first thing is we wanted to do something about
23:11australia's housing crisis and then what we also discovered is that manufacturing is alive and well
23:17in australia in this segment
23:21com bank's funding is enabling ollie homes to expand their operations
23:26you're now helping him build a second facility is that right we are that's going to be 550 home
23:35a year capacity so that's gonna wow more than double the capacity that they have here today so we feel
23:42very privileged to be a part of that having seen the designs for my 3d concrete printed house i'm
23:54visiting the factory where all the magic happens and i'm told they've got a little surprise for me
24:01oh so we're going to do a vr yeah exactly you can see your home oh great okay this is amazing thank you
24:07okay
24:11oh that's beautiful so you can walk around the house oh wow okay look at the front entrance
24:19oh my this looks beautiful wow this looks incredible mate look at the tree look at the tree
24:36this is the exact tree on the farm exactly the designs nick showed me on the farm truly have come to life
24:44when you actually put those 3d goggles on and you start walking through the rooms
24:49it feels absolutely surreal i mean i started feeling seasick
24:53whoa it's so incredible i've actually never put one of those on no it's in i mean like i've got the
25:05sweats with excitement that was amazing mate really amazing fantastic the virtual version of our 3d
25:15concrete printed future home blows my mind and it's just a taster
25:24downstairs they're going to test run the first 3d concrete printed tree column for our new 3d printed
25:32house this is good yeah we're on it we're going we're printing good this is great this is not the
25:38final material we're going to be using so this is a uh a slow setting material okay but we get the
25:43general shape well yeah look the shape looks beautiful so i can already see the tree yes yes
25:48starting to fall yep oh my god all the way through yeah yeah yeah and it'll come through it's like an
25:53hourglass and it'll come nice and straight and then belly out at the top i've always wanted to build a
25:59house that mimics nature right sure and this is the first pillar of our new home it is it's going to
26:08look stunning so this really is the very first 3d printed prefabricated house in australia if not
26:17the world as far as i know because it's prefab everything's built in the factory and then brought
26:23out to sight nothing like being the first you could call us guinea pigs we're always guinea pigs
26:32nick and his team at 3d contour spend months pouring over concrete chemistry to get their mix exactly
26:40right it's a high performance mortar almost 50 recycled we've got a lot of herbs and spices in there
26:45it drives to 60 mpa almost so it's really it's really that's strong yeah mate i'm very excited
26:52are you yeah yeah i'm a little bit uh wait till we wait till we finish the test we're making history
26:58here huh i wouldn't expect anything like that mate it's teamwork i gotta say you guys are so good to
27:06work with it it's really been fun so we're getting a few expansion cracks oh no no no no no no no no no
27:36this is the first test print for my 3d concrete printed home let's just say it hasn't all gone
27:59according to plan so the moment i saw all of that 3d material fall into a pile of cow manure i just felt
28:09like this is never going to work because you know we couldn't even get up 500 millimeters and we need
28:18to get 3.1 meters high why did that happen so the layers below weren't cured enough here so
28:30this was always going to fail i thought i'd get to a meter but uh i was right 500 short
28:36well i guess that's why we do tests right for sure it gives us a lot of data it's like uh it's
28:41like elon musk blowing up rockets he'll blow five up and the next one's next one's good so
28:46so and we're happy to fail you know as long as we learn oh mate that was
28:52happens so quickly right it does
28:54so i think we learn we live and learn and we'll uh we'll know what to do for next time so let's get
29:00back into it tomorrow more accelerant yeah we're gonna use a different mix i'll be honest seeing
29:08the column collapse was like watching my dream crumble right before my eyes nick's still confident
29:16but i'm starting to feel just a tad worried
29:18up in the blue mountains helen is looking on the bright side as she explores her new neighborhood
29:34the foxes have chosen the high-tech snow gum design
29:46which is just 60 square meters and costs only 76k each to lock up when you add internals and fit
30:08out plus delivery and assembly the costs can vary a lot
30:12in the case of the foxes the total cost for each house is just over 200k
30:19incredibly high-tech promises both houses will be delivered on site and installed in 12 weeks
30:28they've got first stage got the walls up it's starting to look good isn't it yeah and um yeah
30:33i'm really hopeful for what's going to happen next yeah so far so good it looks good
30:37with both houses only being 60 square meters each michael and helen know there will be some
30:44challenges i think it'll be pretty small but it'll be manageable anything i hope so
30:52well worst comes to worst we could join them together and you know i'm sure it'll be okay yeah
30:59but you'd have to move out without walls sorry
31:08in any house renovation or build choosing styling is definitely the fun bit
31:14well we're here at oddy australia they are all things bathroom laundry we're looking for bathtubs
31:21tapware sinks someone's already made her mind up let's go
31:34come around this way i'll show you an amazing farmhouse look path tower
31:37this is the bondi that's nice this is the little mini it's cute i like it a lot it looks like the
31:44old the old tubs i love it really exciting collection the bondi collection so this is all about curves
31:53and what's perfect about these ranges as you can see it's the plywood detailing yeah so this is water
31:58resistant but traditionally a lot of this joinery has been mdf always been mdf so why do you do it out
32:04of plywood because it's more sustainable so it's longer lasting you'll love it forever until you're
32:09sick of it you know and no formaldehyde no formaldehyde less volatile compounds yeah and tick tick tick
32:17what does that button do magic
32:24so this is face lighting perfect for makeup it's like a tick tock light like we could
32:30could start our own tick tock there you go maybe you i can teach you how to dance or maybe you can
32:35teach me how to dance we could revive the manpower days oh yeah great let's move on
32:46now being a gardener my first instinct is to start any build with the garden
32:53regardless of the fact that our 3d test print failed i'm still chasing my da and money's getting
33:00tighter by the day in a couple of years time we won't have to buy any fruit oh definitely
33:08definitely our grand plan is to replace the cows with trees which is why i've been making plenty of
33:15visits to tony our local fruit tree guru how are you jamie how you going what how are you tony pretty
33:21good nice to see you mate now what have i got and what haven't i got i don't think i got any avocados
33:27did i no you didn't yeah so i'll definitely get a couple of avocados yep we've got shepherd which
33:33is your first one in which is march yeah yeah yeah you've got april here yeah you've got august here
33:38you've got works here which is december amazing well that takes care of my avocado for the year
33:44all right what else we got it's been about three and a half thousand on fruit trees
33:50he bargained hard too i wouldn't mind some more of those dark oranges we got some pizzas nectarins
33:57we've got a blood plum blood plum may june here great yes i'll take all four yeah um i've got some
34:06lychees i've got avocados and we've got a whole tray of blueberry yep wow anything else you want i don't
34:14think there's anything left okay that's it i'm gonna i'm gonna rename you the fruit yoda is that
34:23all right that's all right go for it plus you're the only bloke i know that's actually shorter than
34:28me yeah thanks so this is going well so part of my negotiation um tactic was that i would gift him
34:38some of our prize roosters this is where i get the big discount we love our roosters would we call
34:45them a gift they're the gift that keeps giving yeah at 3 a.m every day yeah they're in the prime
34:53of their life this has got to get me at least 100 bucks off holy moly i didn't think it was that
35:02person he'll come back he'll come back off he goes have you ever tried to catch a rooster it's not easy
35:13we'll get him
35:20coming up the animals have gotten in and ate in all the trees it's the attack of the herbivores
35:27i want to get rid of all the cows and replace them with trees
35:35and later unless we get this resolved the next 24 hours i'm gonna have to go talk to the real
35:40estate and find out how much i can get for selling this block as it is bureaucratic bungles
35:45leave sean's dream home hanging by a thread we can't move forward
35:56on the farm it's been two weeks since i bought a forest worth of fruit trees from the nursery
36:02and i've just heard from my farm hand fab there's been a little hiccup so mate uh
36:09uh what happened so the animals have gotten in and ate in all the trees they look a quarter of the
36:20size oh yeah did someone leave the gate open well yeah the bottom gate got left open and there's also
36:30another gate down the other end that uh they've knocked over the cows i think right
36:35this is like three and a half grand's worth of fruit trees
36:44i thought this would be great in a couple of years time we'll start bearing fruit and
36:48off we go we've probably lost a year of growth if not more well that's because they're all
36:55this high i know mate i know all the leaves do you know don't tell me farming 101 close the gates
37:04it's farm life it's tough on the farm i'm gonna put barbed wire and an electric wire i mean it
37:13obviously works on every other farm in australia so yeah i've never put up an electric fence before
37:18i wouldn't know i want to get rid of all the cows and replace them with trees i start absorbing carbon
37:28producing renewable energy and producing food yeah yeah i'm glad you're on this train with me mate
37:35okay i feel like i might need to go out and purchase a few more trees yeah
37:45more trees aren't the only thing on the shopping list for our new future home
37:50we're also looking for the most energy efficient kitchen and laundry appliances
37:54so we try to make sure that we work with brands and suppliers that have a whole range of options
38:02asco in particular are probably one of our most sustainable brands so in terms of the electricity
38:08and water efficiency but also in terms of how recyclable their products are at the end of their
38:13lives so they're thinking about the circular economy 100 how we use it and then also what happens once
38:19we're done with it amazing whoa these look cool what do these do these ones you've got your washing
38:29machine and your dryer it has a 10 star energy rating so it doesn't get much better than that
38:35that's amazing yeah you can't beat that because the dryers are one of the biggest energy users in the
38:39in the household right 100 okay we've got kitchen cupboard yep we've got laundry cupboard jazz you've nailed
38:45this the foxes are also making decisions about their kitchens
38:56so neolith is a sintered stone product it mimics a really similar process that natural stone so your
39:03marbles go through and then the heat is actually what gives it the pattern that you see on the product
39:09so it's not printed it's baked because of the way that we manufacture it's completely non-porous
39:19meaning that is really resistant to staining and it's ultra hygienic so you only need to use
39:24a little bit of soap some warm water and it's completely clean fantastic yeah love it already
39:30neolith's sintered stone is a hundred percent carbon neutral and greatly reduced silica and then we
39:39have my favorite of the collection which is called taj mahal so this has got a really creamy neutral
39:47it's quite a soft vein yeah i like that but i i think i might regret it
39:52i'm checking out this one yeah i don't know why she could tell actually which one i was going to
40:03choose um and it was called taj mahal i think i'd probably have to go the same one
40:13he's led the right way well chosen the same again it seems the more things change
40:20the more they really do stay the same next up on the shopping list for our future home
40:27is fans and when it comes to fans there's no bigger brand than this
40:36i think the key things with fans is that moving air throughout that whole house 24 hours a day and
40:41it'll probably cost you anywhere between eight and twelve dollars a year oh wow that's it yeah well
40:47they hardly draw any electricity this beautifully designed bamboo model is it's called a haiku luxe
40:54the blades themselves have been designed to mimic an aircraft wing a 2.1 meter diameter fan and just
41:00bear in mind you need a really big room and some pretty high ceilings to get that one in yeah so jamie
41:06this one here is basically eight layers of mozo bamboo layered on top of one another to produce this finish
41:13and from a sustainability perspective it's certainly best in class yep i can see this in the main living
41:20area now we've also got a bearing of that particular model that we've just brought to australia it's
41:26called the coastal haiku we make these fans as durable as possible in outdoor environments and the
41:32coastal model for your outdoor areas would be the go sign me up for that one
41:38coming up just i'm done i'm done sean pulls the plug
41:50and listen if we didn't innovate we wouldn't have light globes would we
41:54addison you're calling yourself no
42:06in canberra sean quichini has yet another red tape bungle to unravel
42:15why are we stuck once again on trees a number of a tree on the number of a tree on a report
42:21it's approved and the problem is that the certifier won't go i agree
42:29because of a number on a tree one number because that one number is not the same as that number
42:36an admin issue has resulted in the trees on sean's plans being numbered differently in two different
42:43reports in the automated system that you have to fill it out on the thing you have to mark which
42:48trees they need to assess and then that creates the number of the tree it doesn't take it off the
42:53plan that you submit it just creates in whatever order you put them on them you drew them on their
42:58map yeah that's all it is not hard there's no legal reason to do this to stop this from happening
43:09sean's been trying unsuccessfully to navigate the act's fast track building approval process
43:19for 12 weeks longer than the 10 weeks it takes to build a resi cast house
43:27he's now run out of time money and patience
43:33so right now unless we get this resolved the next 24 hours i'm gonna have to go talk to the real
43:37estate and find out how much i can get for selling this block as it is because we can't move forward
43:44this has been months of stupidity
43:58i'm just i'm done i'm done
44:07back on the farm those pesky cows may think they've got the better of me but they can't
44:16stop me enjoying a big juicy steak with my mates it's also a great time for my beautiful singer-songwriter
44:24amika and her band partner matt boylan smith to set the mood
44:43of course jamie would plant fruit trees and have a great vision
44:47and then the cows would escape the paddock and eat the fruit trees that's just what happens to us
44:53is it annoying yes is it frustrating sure i think you just gotta laugh and keep going otherwise
44:59i would be quite literally mad the 3d printing tests fail on the other hand is no little thing
45:06i'm actually really really excited to live in the 3d printed home i'm just really at the moment
45:19apprehensive that it's going to work because it's experimental
45:25i i'm nervous i'm really nervous
45:28there's no plan b there really is no plan b no we're kind of we're in too deep now we've committed
45:37but i guess we've got to put faith in the team around us and hope that it all works because
45:44listen if we didn't innovate we wouldn't have light globes would we
45:48back into the top edison you're calling yourself no
45:55you're comparing yourself no i'm just saying we've got to try new things
46:02it's a little things it's a little things with you
46:07next time on future house sean finally gets some good news it's all been in theory until this point
46:22and now it's here it's it's real it's great i think just like it's a dream come true it sounds so corny but
46:28it is it's just a dream yep okay there we go we built a house in the time you went and bought five
46:36chickens mate well nine chickens thank you very much but at our farm on the northern rivers oh this way
46:43yeah this way it's a disaster
