Thai village security guards are staying behind to safeguard homes as clashes escalate along the Thailand-Cambodia border in Buriram province. While residents evacuate for safety, village head Wuttikrai Chimngarm and his team maintain nightly patrols amid artillery and rocket fire. The renewed fighting, which started on December 8, 2025, has displaced hundreds of thousands and caused casualties on both sides. Thai officials report three soldiers killed and 29 injured, while Cambodia confirms nine civilian deaths and 20 seriously injured. This marks the most intense fighting since July, when over 300,000 were displaced before a ceasefire was brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump. Village guards continue their duty to protect homes and belongings from looters, coordinating through a communication network to track incoming attacks.
