Families demand suspension of officers in Melaka shooting case

The families of three men shot dead by police in Durian Tunggal, Melaka are urging the authorities to immediately suspend all officers involved pending a transparent and independent investigation into the incident.  Their demand was conveyed by the families’ lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, during a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters on Wednesday (Dec 10). 00:00We are gathered here today with the three family members of the victims of the Durian-Tunggal murder,

00:10where the family members have come today to Bukit Aman to hand over evidence to the

00:17special task force that is investigating this matter. Now what we are handing over to the

00:23police is also the original device that was used to record the conversation between the

00:33deceased and his wife. So the device that was used is a mobile phone. The mobile phone

00:43will be handed over to the police today for them to investigate this matter in detail.

00:50The three police reports that were lodged by the three family members, the three family

00:55members will be giving their statements under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code to

01:00assist the police in the investigation. Now that is what we are here for. Now there

01:06are a few issues that we need to report to the press. The first of all is that until today,

01:14there is still no classification by the police that these murders should be investigated

01:21under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Section 302 of the Penal Code is for murder. Three Malaysians

01:29were murdered in cold blood by the PDRM. Has this been classified as a murder? Not yet. Is this

01:36being investigated? Supposedly so. Why has it not been classified as murder? Three lives

01:43have been lost. We demand that the classification be made immediately, urgently. What is the Special

01:49Task Force waiting for? So it's imperative that a Section 302 classification is done urgently.

01:55We also demand that all the shooters, i.e. the police officers, who were involved in the

02:02shooting and killing of these three individuals, be suspended. That they be investigated. And

02:08finally, that they be charged. How are you investigating them if they are not being suspended? Are they

02:13still on active duty? Do we know all of this? We don't know. There is so much of a lack of information.

02:20Is the Special Task Force giving us any updates? No. Now, this doesn't make sense. Considering

02:26the fact that the Prime Minister himself, if you look at the article, he has stated, PM

02:32Arah Polis Siasat Secara Telus, Kes Tembak di Melaka. Now, despite the fact that the Prime

02:39Minister has given a directive to the police, where is the ketelusan? Now, I also refer to this

02:45letter that was sent by my law firm to the PDRM. We are asking for details from the PDRM as

02:52to who are the members of the Special Task Force. We need to know who are the members of

02:56the Special Task Force. Why is the Special Task Force a secret? Why are we not being informed?

03:01So this letter has still not been replied. We have asked them for details of the Special Task Force.

03:07We have asked them for details of the investigation and no details have been given thus far. Now, I would

03:14like to reiterate, before we go in to give our statement, I would like to reiterate that

03:18it is very clear from the audio that these three individuals had already been caught, that

03:25they were already helpless, they were at the mercy of the police and that only after that

03:31the shooting took place. In other words, when the shooting took place, all three of them were

03:35already in the custody of the police. Why is the police shooting somebody that was already

03:40in custody? This does not make sense. It is completely unacceptable.

03:45Yeah, and kami juga menuntut, kami juga menuntut bahawa semua pihak polis yang terlibat

03:50dalam pembunuhan ini untuk disuspend dengan serta-merta sambil penyiasatan berlaku.
