00:00Here we go again. Border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia have erupted once more,
00:05with fighting breaking out in five eastern provinces. According to Thailand's Ministry
00:09of Foreign Affairs, the Cambodian forces opened fire into Thai territory in Sisekhet province.
00:16Two soldiers were wounded. Further clashes occurred in multiple areas,
00:20with Cambodian troops continuing to fire into Thai territory. One Thai soldier lost his life,
00:25and eight were wounded. Now, Thailand's Second Army area has confirmed that Cambodia mobilized BM-21
00:32multiple rocket launchers and fired into Thai territory. This has prompted Thai forces to
00:37scramble fighter jets to launch airstrikes, targeting Cambodian military positions in what it calls
00:42proportionate self-defense. Malaysia, which is serving as this year's ASEAN chair, just wants
00:48the fighting to stop. Its Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who along with US President Donald Trump,
00:53helped to broker a ceasefire deal in October, has urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint,
00:59maintain communication, and revive diplomatic channels. He said in a Facebook post, quote,
01:05the renewed fighting risks unraveling the careful work that has gone into stabilizing relations
01:09between the two neighbors, end quote. He cited paragraph seven of the ceasefire agreement,
01:15which states, in the event of an armed conflict, whether intentionally or unintentionally,
01:20both sides must promptly consult at the local level through existing bilateral mechanisms to prevent
01:25the situation from escalating along the border. But Thailand is losing patience. As tensions build
01:32along the border, netizens have grown increasingly fed up with talk of dialogue and formal protests.
01:37One user said, why is Thailand expected to be patient with a neighbor that consistently fails to
01:42honor agreements? Another said, so easy and simple. Anwar, go to tell Hun Sen and Hun Manet.
01:49Another said, obviously, it didn't work, lol. Similarly, the Thai government has lost its appetite
01:55for negotiations. When asked about the ASEAN chair's remarks, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chan
02:00Wira Kun said, if you want to tell Thailand to do something, my suggestion is that you should talk to
02:05the one who has transgressed against Thailand to stop. Don't tell us to restrain ourselves, it has already
02:10gone past that point. He added, there will not be any negotiations. If Cambodia wants the fighting
02:16to stop, it will need to comply with our demands. When asked whether there's been any communication
02:21with either Anwar or Trump since the fighting broke out, Prime Minister Anutin said no, this is a
02:26bilateral issue. But will Trump see it that way? Earlier this year, Trump used the threat of tariffs
02:32to pressure Thailand and Cambodia to the negotiating table, with Cambodia going as far as to nominate
02:37Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. For her part, Thailand Commerce Minister Supochi Suthampan
02:43insists that trade negotiations are proceeding as normal. She believes the Foreign Ministry's
02:47statements have been effective at preempting any misunderstandings about how the clashes were
02:52instigated. The border conflicts have had a broader impact on Eastern Thailand, though,
02:57with evacuations affecting nearly 400,000 civilians, over 600 schools, and multiple hospitals across four
03:04Thai border provinces. The U.S. Embassy has issued a travel advisory urging Americans to avoid all
03:09travel within 50 kilometers of the border, warning that conditions are unpredictable and the U.S. has
03:15limited ability to provide emergency assistance. And all of this is happening right as Thailand is
03:20hosting the 33rd Sea Games. With thousands of athletes competing and fans traveling across Bangkok and
03:26Chonburi, the renewed conflict risks booking visitors and overshadowing the country's hosting of this regional tournament.
