00:00Thailand launched airstrikes into Cambodia on Monday as fighting flared along their disputed
00:06border. Both countries accused the other of violating a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President
00:12Donald Trump. Eyewitness video released on Monday showed a huge plume of smoke rising on the
00:18Cambodian side of the border. Reuters confirmed the location using topographic imagery and matching
00:25smoke plume footage but could not verify the video's date or cause. Another video released by
00:31the Thai Army showed an explosion in what it says is Plan Hien sub-district in Sisaket province.
00:38Both Thailand and Cambodia are evacuating civilians as fighting escalates along their disputed border.
00:45A Thai Army spokesperson said at least one Thai soldier had been killed and eight were wounded
00:50in the fresh clashes, adding that air support was called in to hit Cambodian military targets.
00:57Meanwhile, Cambodia's defense ministry said Thai military had launched dawn attacks on its forces
01:02at two locations following days of provocative actions and added that Cambodian troops had not
01:08responded. Three Cambodian civilians had been seriously injured in the fighting so far,
01:14according to a senior provincial official. Thailand and Cambodia have for more than a century
01:20contested sovereignty at undemarcated points along the 508-mile land border, first mapped in 1907 by
01:28France when it ruled Cambodia as a colony. The simmering dispute between the countries erupted
01:33into a five-day conflict in July before a ceasefire deal was brokered by Malaysian Prime Minister
01:39Anwar Ibrahim and Trump, who witnessed the signing of the peace agreement
01:43in Kuala Lumpur in October. However, Thailand said it was halting the implementation of the
01:49truce with Cambodia last month, following a landmine blast that maimed one of its soldiers.
01:55Thailand has repeatedly accused Cambodia of planting fresh landmines along parts of their
02:00disputed border, which have seriously injured at least seven Thai soldiers since July.
02:06Phnom Penh denies the charge.
02:09Anwar, who is also chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Bloc,
02:13on Monday, urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and maintain open channels of
02:19communication. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charn Virakul said the government would not stand for its
02:25sovereignty being violated.
02:27Thailand never wants to see violence. We insist that Thailand has never initiated the clashes
02:35or encroached into the land whatsoever. But Thailand will not stand for its sovereignty being
02:40violated and will proceed with appropriate measures, caution, and adhere to peace, stability,
02:47and uphold humanitarian aspects.
