In New Delhi, the capital of India, debates began for the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. During the opening ceremony, the Director-General of UNESCO highlighted the importance of preserving oral and cultural traditions and practices that strengthen community identities. The debates, with the participation of 185 UNESCO member states, will examine 67 candidacies of great cultural richness, including the Joropo of Venezuela, the Son Cubano, and the Diwali of India.
