As Syrians celebrate the historic fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, one Kurdish family sits in a cold shelter — unable to join the joy. For Horo Mamdouh and Mayada Kor Misto, liberation means nothing without a home to return to.
“We want to feel joy… but how can we celebrate when we are displaced?” Horo says, questioning whether anything has truly changed for ordinary Syrians. Their children play in the dusty yard of a displacement shelter, still dreaming of the city they fled a year ago.
In this powerful report from Qamishli, the couple shares the pain, fear, and longing experienced by thousands of Kurdish families who remain stranded despite political changes in Damascus. They say true freedom will only come when they can return to Afrin.
Watch their emotional testimony — a reminder that for many Syrians, the war isn’t over.
00:00It's not good for me, but I don't want to make it easy to make it easy to make it easy to make it easy to make it easy
00:30that is how we
00:34treat our food,
00:37we are on the show,
00:40and how we treat ourselves
00:41and how we treat other countries.
00:43Even though our food is not unique,
00:46and as we treat our pet
00:49and our food is very different.
00:50Even though everything is different,
00:52we are not sure how we treat our food like this.
00:55The other one, I think it's a bad one.
00:59I think it's the wrong one.
01:01The same thing happened before the last time.
01:05I think it's a bad one.
01:07I think it's a bad one.
01:15When I was in my country, I felt like I was in the background.
01:19I was thinking what is different.
01:22that the government is very different.
01:27There is no difference between the people who live with their own actions and the government.
01:32There is no difference between the government and the government.
01:38That's why the government is very different from the government.
01:52Today, the world is going to hit the regime of Bashar al-Assad
02:05with all the Syrian countries, except for what we want to do here,
02:09and we are not on our land nor on our country.
02:22We are currently in the region of the Ewa region, so we hope to return to our land, to our country,
02:30not only by the name of all the refugees, but even the child wants to return to our country.
02:36So we hope to have an agreement between the President of the Shari'i and General of the United States.
02:43What do you mean by these children? They don't know the country, they don't know the country, they don't know the country, they don't know the country, they don't know the country.
02:49They don't know the country, they don't know the country, they don't know the country.
02:55Do you think that they should eat?
02:57Yes!
02:58How did they go to?
03:03On the other hand, the Lord has the American government,
03:08the North and the West has their own land and by the West also has the American government,
03:12and the West has their own land and land and its own land from abroad.
