Pre-match press conference with Chelsea forward Alejandro Garnacho ahead of their Champions League match away to Atalanta at Stadio di Bergamo.
Garnacho explains why he chose to stay in the Premier League and join Chelsea, calling it the best league in the world, and reveals how conversations with Enzo Fernández and the trust of Enzo Maresca convinced him the move was the right step. He insists he has come to Stamford Bridge to play his football and show people the player he is, and says sometimes in life you have to change things to take a step forward and improve.
He discusses adapting to Maresca’s demands off the ball, admitting he has to defend if he wants to play and that modern football requires everyone to work defensively. Garnacho stresses the importance of confidence between player and manager, says he is only three months into the project, and believes Chelsea will improve with time.
The Argentine forward talks about his Stranger Things tattoos, saying it is his favourite series and that he is trying to improve and mature every season, and explains why he only focuses on England because he believes the Premier League is the best place to be. Looking ahead to Atalanta, he admits the last time he watched them was the Europa League final two years ago but expects a strong side, a difficult match away from home and a tough atmosphere, while backing Chelsea to compete for the Champions League if they can find more consistency after big performances against Barcelona and Arsenal.
