00:00I was there that night, obviously, and witnessed the people of Dayton, thousands of them shouting in protest to Mike DeWine to do something.
00:06It was a powerful moment, Bonnie. I mean, they had to sit down, you know, he had to sit down.
00:10He was unable to finish his speech. And the next day he called me and said he intended to do something around gun safety.
00:16I took him at his word. I like to work in a bipartisan way.
00:19And if someone says they're wanting to make your community more safe, you'll work with them no matter what.
00:23And I stood next to him as he unveiled a bill he called Strong Ohio around gun safety.
00:28And then I watched him do absolutely nothing to move it forward.
00:32The extremists in his party got a hold of him.
00:35He's terrified of the extremists and radicals in his party and basically does whatever they tell him.
00:41And then so we watched him then sign Stand Your Ground, which makes our communities less safe, particularly for African-Americans.
00:47And then he signed Permitless Concealed Carry last year, which law enforcement was against and actually increases officer involved shootings by 14 percent in our communities.
00:56And just yesterday, the bill in the wake of Uvalde that he pushed forward, which allows teachers, bus drivers and cafeteria workers to carry guns in schools, even though they didn't want this added responsibility and law enforcement was against this, too.
01:15So time and time again, we see that, you know, Mike DeWine says what's politically convenient at the time.
01:21But when the rubber meets the road, he kowtails completely with the extreme right wing base.
01:28And this is so out of step with Ohio.
01:30I mean, one of the things I think is really important is, again, Ohio is a common sense state.
01:35Nine out of 10 Ohioans want universal background checks as a law.
01:39We are being governed by a tyrannical minority in the state because of an illegitimate state house and a governor that's too weak to stand up to them.
