00:00And it's important to do this because this is an attack on trans children. If I weren't doing this, then I wouldn't be doing my job and I'd be complacent in this attack. And I don't think that any of us should be complacent in this.
00:18This is a war against the LGBTQ community. It is a national war. And I cannot, in my position, sit on the sidelines and watch these kids get hurt.
00:36And, you know, why has the Nebraska legislature taken this up? Like we're seeing, I was researching and in 2020, there were no bills like this. Like there was, were attacks on trans women participating in girls sports at high school and college level.
00:58But there's, you know, this wholehearted attack on young people getting gender affirming care hadn't started. Why? Like, why? What's going on? Now we are, there's like 400 bills in 2023 across the country to do this.
01:16Yeah, it's, I mean, it's not an accident. It's a campaign against trans people. And it is a campaign to eliminate trans people. And that's why I was censured today on the floor for comparing this to a genocide and not even comparing it to a genocide. It is a genocide. We are in the midst of a genocide of trans people.
01:37And I'm not sure why some of the people would be centered for naming it, but I'm naming it. It's a genocide.
01:47And why did they decide to do this? What came up with you using the words that this is a genocide? I hadn't heard when I, again, when I've seen you in TV appearances so far and read about what you've said, you haven't used that term. What, when did you do that?
02:05Good day. So today, you know, I've been thinking about it a lot. I've been seeing the conversation around these trans, anti-trans bills across the country.
02:18I've been seeing people talking about the steps that lead to genocide and talking about how what we are seeing legislatively across the country being enacted or even introduced to effectively impact the trans community are very clearly part of the steps, the stepping stones to genocide.
02:44And, um, and, um, and so today I decided was the day I was going to discuss that.
02:50And what happened when you brought this up and you said like, did this, did this, was this part of sort of the natural discussion? Were you talking about the bill that you were trying to prevent from passing?
03:03Oh, I mean, I'm talking all of the time. So, um, it was, I just had some, uh, reading material from the Holocaust museum outlining the steps of genocide. And I started reading them and then I named it. I said that this is a genocide.
03:21And so, um, some of my colleagues got on the floor debate and, uh, took issue with that. And, um, which good, you should take issue with participating in a genocide. Um, and then when I said it another time, uh, one of my colleagues, uh, took the point of order to have me censured.
