BOUCHOT MUSSEL FARMING SHOWN IN INCREDIBLE CLAW MACHINE HARVEST WITH VID By Jaiansh Sharma Watch the fascinating moment bouchot mussels are harvested using a giant claw-like crane. The video, shared by Mussel farmer Anthonio Ledoux from Le Crotoy, France, captures the traditional aquaculture technique that dates back to the 13th century. Rows of tall wooden poles stand in the tidal zone, where mussel larvae naturally attach themselves to ropes wrapped around the posts. As tides rise and fall, the mussels grow in clean, nutrient-rich water, forming thick clusters above the seabed. When harvest time comes, workers use a crane fitted with a heavy-duty gripping claw to lift the mussels off the poles, a process that looks remarkably like an arcade claw machine, but with nets full of fresh bouchot mussels as the prize. The method is sustainable, gentle on the environment, and produces mussels prized for their clean flavour and tender texture. The video was shared on Instagram by Anthonio Ledoux where one user commented: “I bet that felt so good for the pole.” ENDS
