Love Affair — The Everlasting Love Affair 1968 (UK, Psychedelic Rock, Freakbeat, Soul)
The debut album by a London band. Formed in 1966 under the initial name "The Soul Survivors," Sid Bacon, father of drummer Maurice Bacon, served as their manager after placing an ad in Melody Maker seeking players. The band later changed its name to "Love Affair" (after the popular television series), as there was already a band called "The Soul Survivors" in the US. In November 1966, they signed a contract with Decca Records. The band toured extensively, including performing at the famous Marquee Club in London. The band's lineup changed frequently, including keyboardist Pete Bardens, who later formed Camel, playing with the band from August to September 1967. The single "Everlasting Love," released in December 1967, hit #1 in the UK charts the following month. The follow-up single, "Rainbow Valley," reached #5 in May 1968, and in September of that year, the band released "A Day Without Love," which reached #6 in the UK. Tours and numerous television appearances (including "Top of the Pops" and Germany's "Beat Club") continued. They toured with Scott Walker, Gun, Paper Dolls, Casuals, Ronnie Scott, Terry Reid, and Bluesology (featuring a young Elton John). Their debut album, "The Everlasting Love Affair," was released in December 1968.
