Roxy – Roxy 1969 (Canada, West Coast Psychedelic Rock)
Another band featuring Bob Segarini. A forerunner of The Wackers, musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and radio host Bob Segarini (born August 28, 1945, in Stockton, California) began his professional career in the mid-1950s amid the rise of Beatlemania. After moving to Los Angeles, his first official band was The Ratz with Gary Duncan, who would later form Quicksilver Messenger Service. In 1966, Segarini formed Family Tree, which included guitarist and keyboardist Jimmy De Cocq, singer Michael Dure, drummer Vann Slatter, and bassist Bill "Kootch" Trochim. They soon achieved near-cult status in the West Coast music scene. They released their only LP, "Miss Butters," on RCA Records in the summer of 1968. Despite moderate success with "Birthday/Dirgeday," "Melancholy Vaudeville Man," and "Miss Butters Lament," co-written with Harry Nilsson, the group soon disbanded. Immediately after, Segarini and DeCocq formed Roxy with bassist and lead singer Randy Bishop, releasing a single album in the spring of 1969 on Elektra. Once again, despite the success of "Love Love Love," "Yesterday's Song," and "Rock and Roll Circus," only one record remained. Afterward, producer Gary Usher reorganized the group, adding drummer Spencer Earnshow, former Family Tree guitarist Mike Stull, and bassist Bill "Kootch" Trochim. The new group released three albums as "The Wackers."
