Grammy Awards 2023 Recap
Transcript
00:00The Grammy Awards took place last night and were filled with some surprises, snubs, history-making wins, and incredible performances.
00:10Hey guys, it's Ali for Hollywood Life with a recap of the Grammy Awards, which took place on February 5th at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
00:19Trevor Noah hosted the show, which he kicked off by walking through the slew of A-list attendees.
00:25At one point, the former Daily Show host introduced fellow fans of each other, The Rock and Adele, for a hilarious and adorable moment.
00:33Before we get into the performances, let's talk about some of the surprise presenters for the evening.
00:38Jennifer Lopez took the stage to present Best Pop Vocal Album to Harry Styles and then enjoyed the rest of the show from her table up front alongside her husband, Ben Affleck.
00:48Fans hilariously took notice of Ben's ultra-serious facial expressions at the show, while J-Lo was more often than not dancing excitedly next to him.
00:56Another fan-fave presenter was Madonna, who graced us with her presence as she introduced performers Sam Smith and Kim Petrus.
01:04The icon stunned in a black blazer with a white button-down, a black tie, and a long black maxi skirt.
01:10She praised the unholy stars for being rebels and forging a new path within the industry, as she continues to do so herself.
01:16Now to the major performances of the evening.
01:19The In Memoriam had a notable name missing, which was Aaron Carter.
01:22Fans noticed the snub, as did his fiancée Melanie Martin, who told TMZ that she's baffled he went unrecognized.
01:29She called the oversight a slap in the face to his legacy and to his son.
01:33What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments below.
01:36Another person who thought that they were snubbed at the Grammys was Chris Brown.
01:40The artist took to his Instagram stories after Robert Blasper bested him in the Best R&B Album category.
01:47Chris posted a screenshot of a Google search for Robert and wrote,
01:51Bro, Who the F is this y'all playing? alongside laughing face emojis.
01:55He continued to share more messages about the piano player and some thoughts about how he could have won the award,
02:00suggesting taking up another instrument might have helped him.
02:03He wrote,
02:04Moving on to a big winner from the evening, Harry Styles.
02:12The Album of the Year winner took to the stage multiple times throughout the night to accept awards,
02:17but when he performed his smash hit as it was, he appeared to almost take a tumble.
02:22The singer rocked a silver fringe one-piece, and during a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment,
02:26he seemed to briefly lose his balance at the start of his performance.
02:29However, like the star he is, he quickly recovered, and the whole crowd, including his ex Taylor Swift,
02:35was on their feet dancing along.
02:37Later in the evening, Harry and Taylor were spotted chatting when Tay went over to Harry's table to say hello.
02:43The former couple hugged before going back to their seats, and when Harry won for Album of the Year,
02:48Taylor was one of the first to her feet, giving him a standing ovation.
02:51I love supportive competitors. They were in the same category.
02:56Take note, Chris Brown.
02:57And finally, to the biggest winner of the night, Beyoncé Knowles.
03:01The Queen Bee made history last night, surpassing iconic producer Quincy Jones and conductor George Solti
03:07to become the winningest person at the Grammys with 32 overall wins.
03:11Bay headed into the 65th Grammy Awards with the most nominations, a total of nine,
03:16including three out of the four general fields, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for Break My Soul.
03:22She went on to win Best Traditional R&B Performance for Plastic Off the Sofa
03:26and Best Dance Electronic Recording for Break My Soul at the premiere Grammy show.
03:30At the televised event, Bay was announced as the winner for Best R&B Song for Cuff It,
03:35tying her with Solti for 31 Grammy wins.
03:38But she was caught in traffic at that point and unable to take the stage to accept the honor.
03:42Luckily for her history-making 32nd win for Best Dance Electronic Album for Renaissance,
03:47Bay was present and filled with gratitude as she thanked her late Uncle Johnny,
03:51whose name she famously drops in the song Heated,
03:53as well as her husband Jay-Z and their three children.
03:56She also acknowledged the LGBTQ artists who inspired and directly contributed to Renaissance,
04:01saying, I'd like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing the genre.
