Erika Henningsen Talks Mean Girls On Broadway
Transcript
00:00What is it like working with two of your friends from college?
00:04I know, it's so crazy.
00:06I mean, I feel like somebody's playing a joke on us.
00:09Because there are moments in the show where we just get to have a good time as teen girls on stage.
00:13And I look around and I'm like, somebody's gonna stop the show and say,
00:16oh, this was a mistake.
00:17Like, you can't be doing that with one of your best friends.
00:19But we, it's happening.
00:21Yes.
00:22And tell me also, did you always kind of imagine to be in this role?
00:28Like, this is a crazy role.
00:29It is a crazy role.
00:30You know, I had heard that this was becoming a musical about a year ago.
00:34And as soon as I heard it, I just thought, oh, I want that so bad.
00:37But, you know, being an actor, there's disappointments that happen all the time.
00:41So, I just kind of thought, if I get it, it's meant to be.
00:44If I don't, then on to the next.
00:46It's just sort of how you have to approach it.
00:47But I just fell in love with the character and the writing and the creative team during that audition process.
00:51So, when it worked out, it was a huge relief.
00:54Like, a huge relief.
00:56And what do you want young girls everywhere to learn from your character?
01:00Okay.
01:01One of the things I say at the very end of the show, at the Spring Fling Dance of the Crown,
01:05is something that, you know, I have to remind myself of, and I hope that young females here,
01:09the idea of you don't have to change yourself to be good enough.
01:12Like, we're constantly inundated with images of people, videos, texting, Instagram of, like, somebody who we think is prettier,
01:19more successful, who has the fancier job or whatever.
01:22But I've just learned that if you are constantly competing with other women and constantly trying to change yourself,
01:28the more you look side to side, the less you'll be able to move forward on your own journey.
01:32So, I hope that's what girls take away from this.
