00:00Hey man, you got a boat fire? The house is the one right up there on the corner. This is a
00:17felon, so we need to try to be safe as we can. We have an explosion on the boat. He was working
00:23on a mechanical. There was probably an electrical spark causing an explosion. I'm wondering if
00:28you'd be able to talk to me about some traps that you had set out. You were
00:32trapping within 30 feet of exposed bait. I will make an incision and implant this
00:37into the fish.
00:42Nevada, a land of extremes. From the strip to the summits, it's wild country. Home to
00:52more than 900 species and a way of life worth protecting. Preserved for the people
00:58and the wildlife that call it home. One team stands guard. This is Nevada Wild.
01:08We are at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, our largest body of water here in the state. We're
01:26getting new compliance checks for some of the fishermen. I make sure everybody's
01:30following the limits. Fish cooling station.
01:35My name is Zachary Black. I would have been a game warden with Nevada Department of
01:39Wildlife for 17 years. How's it going?
01:41Good, good. Did you have any luck out there?
01:45I got fluke. You got three? Striper? Did you keep the carcass or did you throw them in there?
01:55Okay. Are you aware that there's a size limit on striper?
01:58I got into game warden work kind of on a fluke. I checked the fishing report one night because I
02:04hadn't been fishing in a while and I saw they were hiring for game wardens. So I thought,
02:08yeah, let's see if I can get hired on with Endow.
02:11Whenever there's a size limit on a fish, you can fillet it, but you have to keep the carcass.
02:17Oh, okay. So I can measure the fish. Okay. The best thing about being a game warden is my office is
02:23outside. I get to drive around on a boat, in a truck, in the woods, in the desert, on the waterways,
02:30and I get to interact with all them types of people. I'm going to give you some information on it, okay?
02:34I'm not going to write your citation for it, but yeah, do me a favor, read the fishing regulations for me.
02:39Okay. All right. Appreciate cooperation. Have a good day.
03:00There is a boat fire. I'm not sure where it's at.
03:06Hey man, you got a boat fire?
03:09I have Quinn Hesterley, Nevada game warden for the department of wildlife,
03:24and I patrol out of Elko. The hard part about this particular patrol is that it's pretty landlocked
03:31with private land. There's a few access points as opposed to a lot of the rest of Nevada where
03:38it's majority public land and the access is a lot easier. I have had issues with people trespassing
03:45in this exact spot before. Okay. I think he might be trespassing. We'll see if he has permission from
03:55the landowner. If he at least claims it, then I can try and follow up. And if he doesn't,
04:00we can potentially look at a possible citation.
04:07Yeah. Are the flows getting pretty high?
04:12Yeah. You got your fishing license handy?
04:14Yeah. I got a printed copy of it.
04:16Yeah. I'm good with that.
04:18You can buy them online.
04:19Yeah.
04:22Did you get permission to fish in there?
04:24I didn't know if it was private or not because I didn't see the signs.
04:26The orange paint.
04:28Oh, so what that means?
04:29Yeah.
04:29I had no idea.
04:30I didn't even know it was private.
04:32So this whole bottom drainage all the way out to the ranch is private. Same thing with that side.
04:37So you didn't talk to anyone?
04:39No, I had no idea.
04:41Because I usually, like, if there's no trespassing, I didn't know what they wanted, right?
04:44Sure. Sure. And I understand that, but they actually do have it painted.
04:49That orange paint right there represents private property.
04:55Unfortunately, it's not going to be that simple.
04:56I'm going to have to issue a citation on it for a fish private property without landowner permission.
05:02So do you have your driver's license on you?
05:07So I'm going to borrow this.
05:08I got to go do my thing.
05:09Do you have any firearms or anything in your vehicle?
05:12In the back underneath, I have a .22, right?
05:14Okay.
05:16There's nothing, man.
05:17Okay. Let's go take a look.
05:18I just carry it in case I see a Badger or something.
05:20Okay.
05:24So you have it just tucked under there.
05:29I'm going to borrow this while I write my citation out, all right?
05:32And then just hang out at the back of your vehicle.
05:34Okay.
05:37Reno, I want a fishing contact in Secret Pass.
05:40Can I get to 2729?
05:4110-4, thank you, Reno. I'll be 10-6.
05:52As far as the violation of trespassing, it's you're gaining access to a more privileged area.
05:59And in the state of Nevada, there's plenty of public land that's accessible for hunting and fishing purposes.
06:05Okay.
06:06I'll give you this back.
06:06I'll get your rifle back after I'm done with this.
06:09I know that there's a lot of private that's ran in common with the public.
06:13Yeah.
06:14But unfortunately, whenever we got orange paint.
06:17I'll remember that next time, too.
06:18So get through the unpleasant part.
06:22So what we got here, your information up top.
06:24What I'm signing you for is a fishing private property.
06:26So the total for the citation is 195.
06:29Any questions?
06:30Nope.
06:30Okay.
06:30What do I need from you?
06:31Signature at the bottom.
06:32It's not admission guilt.
06:33Just promise to take care of the ticket.
06:34Okay.
06:46I'm sure it'll be a better contact next time.
06:48No problem.
06:50Be safe out there, all right?
06:53Whenever we detect a violation, we're looking to change behavior.
06:56Whether it be through a simple warning and a good conversation,
07:00or taking enforcement action like a citation.
07:12Hey, Bob, what's up?
07:13Hey, man.
07:14You got a boat fire?
07:16Yeah, the MP has come out of boat fire at Hemingway.
07:19So I heard that Sean was on the water earlier.
07:22So I don't know if we want to tell the Lieutenant
07:24or maybe help them.
07:25But I'm going to head out there right now.
07:28All right.
07:28I'll head that way.
07:30Yeah, there's a boat fire from Ben Jurese.
07:40We're walking out with NPS.
07:423410-10-4, we'll see 10-23-10-7.
07:50This is a very dangerous situation.
07:52Because we are smelling what smells like smoke from a possible fire.
07:57But we're also smelling maybe an accelerant of some sort.
08:00So once I get an interview with the individual and see what he was actually doing in that vessel,
08:05I'll have a better idea of what we're really working with.
08:08We're in a 3410 hatchery.
08:13Tell a 3403 that it's the first covered section of the dock.
08:20We have an explosion on the boat.
08:33We have an explosion on the boat.
08:41He was working on a mechanical.
08:43There was probably an electrical spark causing an explosion.
08:46Is this from the burn right here, sir?
08:50I don't know.
08:52Okay, that's cool.
08:54This individual has burns to his face, mostly to his cheeks,
08:57some around his eyes, and some hair searing.
09:01Can we squeeze by you real quick and get up in there?
09:03Yeah, right ahead.
09:05Once I realize that he's getting the help he needs,
09:07I'm going to start my investigation immediately.
09:09Because I need to get information right away.
09:12I need to preserve all the evidence so this investigation can proceed,
09:16and we can come to a conclusion on it.
09:18Did you put the fire out?
09:19You did, okay. Good job, by the way.
09:26It's terrifying, right?
09:27It's terrifying.
09:29I don't blame you for being scared.
09:33Looking at the evidence, the physical evidence that we have,
09:36we'll determine whether or not this was a criminal act,
09:39or this was an accident.
09:40What we're going to do here?
09:42We're just going to keep reassessing you to the ambulance get here.
09:45We'll be right here with you. Keep bombing your vitals.
09:47Like, we determine. It looks like a fresh red mark.
09:50Okay.
09:51For you.
09:52What's that? Left arm?
09:53Oh, is it left arm?
09:55Right.
09:55Right?
09:55Right here.
09:56Yeah, right arm.
09:59Okay.
10:02Sir, I'm going to take a couple quick photos of your injuries, okay?
10:07Okay, let me get one of your arm there.
10:12Sir, do you have a driver's license on you?
10:14Okay, okay.
10:17I got most stuff for Sean.
10:24Here, come here, I'll show you.
10:30He was troubleshooting this.
10:31Okay.
10:32He had the power was obviously on.
10:34Yep.
10:35And he hit something.
10:37I don't know what it hit.
10:38I haven't got anything out of him.
10:39He's pretty shaken up, so.
10:40Yeah.
10:41Later, it came to be a priority.
10:52Trapping is highly regulated, much like hunting.
11:00There's a lot of laws that are out there as far as the type of bait that you can use,
11:04how you can have that bait in relation to your trap.
11:07You can't have exposed bait within 30 feet of a trap.
11:11I've got one trapper that had a trap set and he caught a rabbit in this trap.
11:16And when he removed the rabbit out of the trap, he just moved the rabbit about three
11:21or four feet away from the trap and then reset that trap.
11:24And that's a violation of the law, he's trapping within 30 feet of exposed bait.
11:29I can actually show you pictures of the trap and also the placement of where everything
11:33was at.
11:34So you can see here, this is the trap set up.
11:38He's got his trap right here and the rabbit was kind of stuck back in this little cubby
11:43that's back in here.
11:44Not sure how that rabbit could get in there, I don't know if something came in and landed
11:49right in here and it dropped the rabbit over.
11:52Or if somebody else came in and dropped the rabbit over or if the person himself dropped
11:56the rabbit over in there.
11:58But you can kind of see the set up here, that's that line of sticks that's there, the trap
12:04would have been right here and that rabbit would have been back in this dark little cubby
12:07back in here.
12:10It's good that the trapper that had called and turned that stuff in to me, he was out
12:14there looking out for the trapper name, making sure everybody's doing it the way that's
12:18in accordance to the laws and regulation and being fair to everybody that's out there.
12:25So we're going to knock on the door of the resident and see if he's around.
12:32Wyatt.
12:33Wyatt?
12:34Yes sir?
12:35Nick Brunson, State Game Warden.
12:36Good to meet you.
12:37How are you?
12:38Had, wondering if you'd be able to talk to me about some traps that you had set out.
12:42Uh, which ones?
12:43The ones that were right back up here on, uh, kind of close to the old Mizpaw Road, right
12:48down there on that, on that ledge that was down there.
12:51There was a rabbit got put there, so I pulled that trap out of there.
12:56Well, you understand what, you know, what is it?
12:59I'm going to be able to talk to me about some traps that you had set out.
13:03Uh, which ones?
13:04The ones that were right back up here on, uh, kind of close to the old Mizpaw Road, right
13:07down there on that, on that ledge that was down there.
13:10And, uh, what, you know, what it is that we have there, correct?
13:14I mean, you had that trap, and it was set there, and that rabbit was kind of back in
13:21that spot.
13:22And, I mean, it's, it's within, you know, it's exposed bait within 30 feet of the trap.
13:26You didn't place that rabbit in there?
13:28No, sir.
13:29You didn't, you didn't catch that rabbit in your trap at all?
13:32And then just set it next to it?
13:34No, but I did, because I usually walked up, because I usually have a trap there, and
13:40see it in the medial.
13:41Uh-huh.
13:42And I usually just walk up to the edge and look at the trap.
13:46And then, when I pulled it out of there, there was a rabbit there and fur all over there,
13:52and...
13:53You didn't know that that, you didn't know that that rabbit was in there beforehand?
13:55No, sir.
13:56Okay.
13:57No, and I, I pulled the trap out of there, because I didn't want to clean the mess out
14:01of there.
14:02Right.
14:03Honestly, I don't know how long the rabbit was there, like I said, because I usually walk
14:07up to the edge and just look to see how the trap is.
14:10And then, like, the rabbit was down.
14:12Well, I'm guessing you've seen it, it was sounding like a whole deal.
14:16Yeah, it was kind of back in that cubby a little bit there.
14:19And I don't know.
14:20So, you, you didn't actually physically look back into there at any of your other check
14:25times to be able to see if there was a rabbit in there or not?
14:27Yeah, very easily on that, I could peek over it, you know, just look and see, but...
14:32Well, that, that gives me a lot more, you know, a lot better feeling about the whole
14:37thing.
14:38Like I say, I was, I was under the notion that, that you'd caught that rabbit, and you just
14:43decided to throw it back there in the cubby and, and leave the trap set within where that
14:48rabbit was at.
14:49So that way you were, you were trapping within 30 feet of exposed bait.
14:52But had you, had you not walked up far enough, you wouldn't really be able to see back in
14:56there to see that rabbit.
14:57So in the future, in the future, make sure that when you go in here and you check those
15:03traps, try to go up there, try to go up there a lot further to where you can actually see
15:08back in there.
15:09So that if you do have something like that, you can, you can either pull the trap or get
15:13rid of, you know, get rid of the bait, remove that stuff from, from there.
15:17Right.
15:18And you can continue trapping it.
15:19So, all right.
15:20Thanks Wyatt.
15:21I appreciate it.
15:22It could be bluffing me a little bit on that, but at the same time, I couldn't see any marks
15:36on the rabbit's legs that would show that the rabbit had actually been caught in the
15:40trap.
15:41So, I can't say for a hundred percent certainty that he pulled that rabbit out of a trap and
15:47threw it back in that hole.
15:48So, I feel comfortable just giving him a warning on it.
15:52And now that he knows the game wardens are down in here looking at his stuff, I feel confident
15:59that he'll make sure that everything's clean in the future anyways.
16:03I'm going to go ahead and pull a case number.
16:1434-03 is going to be primary on this when he arrives.
16:18Do you want to hang out and fill out a statement for us, or would you like to do it at a later
16:22time and send it to us?
16:23I don't know what to say.
16:24It was a work to show for him.
16:25Just what you did.
16:26Who, what, when.
16:27I want my name.
16:28Please fill out everything that you can up there.
16:31All right.
16:32So, what do we got?
16:33So, this investigation ultimately is going to be turned over to Sean Flynn.
16:37He's one of our younger officers.
16:39This is a good investigation for him to work through and get some experience.
16:43Yeah, you got burning all up there.
16:46Because that was already up.
16:47That was already up.
16:48Yeah, the blast didn't push that up.
16:50So, he engaged the motor while there were fumes in the compartment, correct?
16:55That's what I'm gathering.
16:57Okay.
16:58I didn't see any, like, burning, burning other than the singe of, well, his face.
17:02And you can see the singe up there, yeah.
17:06We're investigating now, and there's really nothing, it doesn't seem like it's going to be,
17:11you know, it's not like a fraud or anything is what we're, you know, not what we're thinking.
17:16So, it's going to be, it's just a, it's going to be a fairly easy report, if you will.
17:20There's no permanent.
17:21Yeah, there's no, yeah, it's just basically an accident.
17:25Okay.
17:26Perfect.
17:27Take this to your friend.
17:29I've got his email.
17:31I've got a phone number for him as well.
17:33We'll contact him and he can get a SIS statement, okay?
17:36We're going to secure everything so you don't have to worry about that.
17:39Okay.
17:40Follow this gentleman right here.
17:42He'll get you to where your vehicle probably is.
17:49Yeah.
17:50Okay.
17:52So, that was a basic explosion on a boat, fire explosion, individual.
17:57I was working on an electrical motor, trying to clean the area off.
18:01Used some sort of aerosol, most likely had alcohol in it.
18:04And there was a spark causing the explosion.
18:08He was all the way inside that explosion.
18:11He did suffer some burns, first degree burns to his face and his arm.
18:16He was transported to the hospital.
18:19To be honest, the guy is truly lucky to be alive.
18:21I mean, that's a very dangerous situation.
18:23My name's Lisa Osborne.
18:44I work for Nevada Department of Wildlife.
18:46All right.
18:47You guys ready to go?
18:48Let's go track some fish.
18:49I am a fisheries biologist on Lake Mojave.
18:52Today, I am out here with Gabe and Adam.
18:54They're going to help me with some of the nets and fish surgeries to implant radio telemetry tags
18:59and hopefully track them around the lake to see how they use and move through habitat.
19:05On Lake Mojave, we have an artificial habitat program where we have installed artificial habitat structures
19:12to provide cover and habitat for fish.
19:15But we're curious on how they use those habitats and then how they use coves that don't have our artificial habitat in them.
19:21All right.
19:22We're setting up an area here on the beach in our study cove.
19:28If we catch fish, we'll set up a table and start the surgeries here on this beach.
19:34Yesterday, we put three nets in Kejila Cove.
19:39Throw the weight and the float in and make sure they're not crossed.
19:44Are we at the end of it?
19:45We're good?
19:46Okay.
19:47I have them all spread throughout the cove, so hopefully they caught fish.
19:51We are looking for a largemouth bass that are a minimum size of just under three pounds.
19:58Yeah, the net's down there.
19:59There's a couple fish in it.
20:00There's a fish.
20:01There's a razorback.
20:04Got razors.
20:06Of course.
20:07When we're not actually going for them.
20:08Yeah.
20:09These are now a third razorback.
20:10Is that good?
20:11They are not our target species for our effort today, but it's really cool.
20:24They're an endangered fish.
20:27They usually don't get this knotted up.
20:32It's crazy.
20:33You have a largemouth bass right here.
20:35This jaw's a little messed up.
20:38Look at that.
20:39I don't know.
20:40He was...
20:41He didn't look good.
20:42No.
20:43He was skinny.
20:48It's probably not an ideal candidate to do surgery on.
20:53The other two nets are going to have a lot fewer, if any, razorbacks in them.
20:58Watch.
20:59There'll be 20 in the other one, too.
21:03Left side?
21:04Go on the left side, because the wind is blowing us this way.
21:06All right.
21:07So, net two.
21:13I mean, it's one razorback after another.
21:16These are not the bass that we needed.
21:18I'm going to get this third net in.
21:20All right.
21:22Last net.
21:25A few more razorbacks.
21:27Here we go.
21:28We got a largemouth bass?
21:29Yes.
21:31Sweet.
21:33Pretty fish.
21:35Really great fish.
21:37The fish that I'm hoping to implant are just at the top of their game.
21:40It's definitely big enough for us to do surgery on.
21:46Sweet.
21:47All right.
21:48All right, all right.
21:50Really great fish.
21:52This is our target species right here.
21:55And this is a good size for it, too.
21:58We'll see how that other one is.
22:00But this one's in good shape.
22:02We have at least one surgery that we will do.
22:05So, the house is the one right up there on the corner.
22:15Up on?
22:16Yeah, on top there.
22:17This corner up here?
22:18Yeah, there's a jeep.
22:19That orange jeep that's parked there.
22:20And then there's a white and red Chevy that's parked there.
22:25Okay.
22:26This is a felon, so we need to try to be safe as we can.
22:28Let's just both park across the street from the front door.
22:29So that'll be our backup point.
22:30Okay.
22:31That sound good?
22:32Sounds good.
22:33I got a call from Lieutenant Esparza that he had received information regarding an individual
22:38who had obtained a Nevada hunting tag for muzzleloader deer.
22:39He asked for me to assist him with visiting this individual for safety purposes due to the
22:45circumstances with the possible felon in possession of a firearm.
22:48He supposedly harvested these two animals.
22:49One was a bull elk and one was a deer.
22:50And although it wasn't a violation to get the tag, it was a violation for him to have
22:52the wretching with the
23:16violation for him to have the weapon to shoot the animal you know this is not
23:21just like an administrative check where you're out checking a fisherman that you
23:24know it's out enjoying the day this is somebody that's you know already been
23:28convicted of a serious crime and if he's hostile and doesn't cooperate and we
23:34find that he's actually in possession of a firearm there's a chance that he may
23:38be going going in today in a case like this where you have a potential of a
23:44felon in possession of a firearm it's important to have more than one
23:47officer at least two sometimes more because those individuals have shown
23:51that they have tendencies that are potentially violent
24:04hey how's it going good are you yes sir we're wanting to see if we could talk to
24:09you about some of your hunt this year if you had a minute
24:13didn't get to do any you didn't do any this year no okay the reason is is I
24:19have a felony and I contacted the game warden over in Elko uh-huh and he told
24:26me I wasn't allowed to hunt so I didn't even buy a gun you didn't even go on the
24:29hunt did you turn the tags back in or did you keep them I think my wife sent it
24:34back you sent them back so you got refunded for it I didn't get refunded for
24:38it because it was too late oh you sent it back after the hunt started yeah as I had
24:43some information that you actually harvested some gear somebody mentioned that if you're
24:48sure you didn't harvest a deer or an elk on that this year
24:51positive okay all right well excuse me sir where are you going back in for
24:57excuse me sir where are you going back in for I'm going to go get the I'm going to get my phone and
25:15call my wife okay you mind if I just company with you okay thank you I'm not trying to hide
25:21anything no okay I'm being honest with you okay you know I contacted the game warden in Elko
25:26because I was told at work that if you have a felony they changed the law that I wasn't allowed to hunt
25:32so I called the game warden okay and asked him uh and he told me don't okay and that was I gotcha
25:38I'll tell you well before we do anything like that we'll just go out and talk and then maybe
25:48we'll come back in in a few minutes then all right well at face value the individual seems to be pretty
25:53forthcoming and honest from what we can tell he did claim that he received a tag or multiple tags
25:59that he did not use we are unable to confirm whether that is true or not so we're trying to
26:04figure out what kind of information we can get out of him further it was before the deer season
26:08started you called him yeah okay yeah because I noticed in the on the hunt record detail
26:14information that we had that you did draw a muzzleloader deer and a muzzleloader elk right
26:19yes sir so you called before the hunt would have been sometime in September is that correct yeah
26:27okay all right hey baby hey the elk tag and the deer tag y'all got did you turn it back in
26:41okay she turned it back in did she turn it in before the hunt started did you turn them in before the hunt
26:48started or after yeah well you didn't have to turn it in it wasn't illegal okay what she did she went on
26:53and not and said my hunt was unsuccessful oh so she's filled out this questionnaire okay I gotcha
27:00so an individual that's convicted felon and unable to possess firearms would still be able to apply for
27:07and obtain tags especially for a weapon class such as archery because it's not classified as a firearm so
27:14there's someone in that individual's circumstances can still hunt in the state of Nevada there can and
27:19sometimes there is confusion between what is a firearm and if a muzzleloader falls under that
27:25classification in the state of Nevada it does fall under that classification by the Nevada rice statutes
27:31definition of firearms hey I don't know do me a favor could you go get a consent to search for the house
27:36all right love you he's saying that he had drawn the tags he drew an elk tag and a deer tag and he called
27:51our office and claims to have spoken with one of our wardens and was told that he could not use a
27:57muzzleloader to hunt since he was a felon and claims that he did not hunt so were these the only two tags
28:03you've had in the last few years no I had one year before that okay and were you able to go on that
28:08one I did you did harvest one on that I did okay all right and since then you disposed of your firearms
28:15to somebody else or you got rid of the firearm right my daddy-in-law has a firearm okay good he did
28:22say that if we would like we can search for any firearms and that's what we're gonna do right here is
28:26have him fill out a consent to search and and verify that and if there's nothing turns up there
28:30we're probably probably pretty good to go you said it would be okay if we go ahead and look around a
28:39little bit to see if there's a firearm in there are you you still okay with that you said wait till
28:43my wife get sure she's okay let me call my wife again hey honey you took the black powder rifles down
28:54to dodge right no today I am out here with Gabe and Adams they're gonna help me with some of the fish
29:13surgeries to implant radio telemetry tags and hopefully track them around the lake to see how
29:19they use and move through habitat all right surgery time surgery time okay so we got big one and then
29:26the one that's kind of listing to its side we caught several pretty small bass tubes we're gonna assess
29:34the condition of the bass that we have and make sure they're not too stressed out for surgery how are
29:41they doing so the one is listing once it gets down some water pressure it'll be all right it's just
29:48baking soda it comes out in the water as carbon dioxide and it's not like a controlled chemical it
29:54doesn't hurt him and the faster they're under anesthesia the faster it can get back to moving around and
30:02being a normal fish we'll time how long that they're in this cooler and then we'll move them into the
30:09surgical cradle and then we'll move them into a recovery bath they should recover in just a few
30:14minutes and then we will release them all right Adam um all right there he goes
30:20they show the initial signs of anesthesia really fast and then like the later stages
30:38of losing the ability to like swim away takes another couple minutes so these are radio telemetry
30:47tags I will make an incision and implant this into the fish these are admitting an active signal we
30:54could track the location of starting a list so we'll just look at that I'm looking for this fish to
31:01be sedated to a point that it can't hold itself upright yeah it's still got good gill movement and
31:08when we turn it turn it right side up it loses equilibrium again so I think we're there on this fish
31:15fish okay let's do it pause back head that way okay yep so first I'm going to remove a few scales just on the
31:27surgical area
31:32it's a lot easier to do this when you don't have scales right here not for so much for the incision but for the sutures
31:39they will grow their scales back so I do it on the lower belly obviously the skin is thinner here I do it
31:51just off center just to hopefully avoid some of the internal organs scalpel
31:58it's a very muscly fish it's a very muscly fish tag eight
32:16all right tag is in
32:20features
32:28goes in so much easier without scales
32:36yeah good and then I put an antibiotic ointment on it it's a good looking wound all right um can you
32:44open that please it's good to go in his recovery bath
32:50and he's already able to hold himself upright and he's already kind of fighting and coming out of it
32:55that went pretty well um and that's especially I mean he's recovered almost so fast it'll take him
33:01another couple minutes to really be able to like fight when you like that that fight they have when
33:07you go to grab for them and then that's fully recovered that's what we call fully recovered
33:11but and he's already upright this is a really good sign so um if I if I turn him over he's
33:19able to right himself and that's really important he's got good gill movement yay um we'll get everything
33:27cleaned up and then we'll just prep for the next fish this is going to be a bigger fish so
33:31I'll add some water to its bath here yeah all right
33:37ready
33:38I make the smallest incision that I can to still fit this tag and if I made the incision any bigger
33:53it's just that much more healing that this fish has to do the tag is rounded off you know it finds
33:59sort of a natural spot just there in the abdominal cavity it's just the first one cold hands
34:18all right it's a good looking wound so far it's not successful till this fish recovers all right
34:25recovery baths if I turn it upside down can it right itself so there it goes so it's fully recovered
34:39we'll go and release them in the back of a cove where there's nice great cattail and root wad habitat
34:46and um hopefully that it's an area of relaxation for them hopefully the fish can just go down and relax
34:53for a day and then that's when it's really fully recovered from this whole experience
35:01this is where we caught them we are releasing them in the exact place that they already were which is
35:05important this is um where they know this is where they chose to be before we caught them
35:17so I want to make sure that it has a little fight in it
35:23I mean I'm happy I know that at least it has the drive and at least it has the ability to
35:33want to get away and not just if it weren't doing well it wouldn't it wouldn't swim away it would just
35:37kind of float there
35:44there it goes
35:45it looks like the fish so far are surviving they've been swimming around um really close to the area
35:52it's going to take them probably a couple days to return to normal behavior but it's encouraging to
35:57see that they're moving around with post-release so we'll put the telemetry scanner in and make sure we
36:03can hear them
36:09and he's beeping in with his code so that's a success I mean of course we expect to hear them
36:16right now because we just released them we'll come back every day for the next few days and do this
36:21having the fish come out and recover from anesthesia so fast and being able to hear the tags this is as
36:28good as this can go out doing this in the field like this I'm really excited about tracking these
36:37fish in the days and weeks and months to come I think it's going to be really fun and we're going
36:42to get a lot of really good information out of it
36:44i got a call from lieutenant esparza that he had received information regarding an individual who
37:01had obtained a nevada hunting tag i noticed in the on the hunt record detail information that we had
37:07that you did draw a muzzleloader deer and a muzzleloader elk right yes sir all right and since then you
37:12disposed of your firearm my daddy-in-law has a firearm okay good at face value the individual seems
37:17to be pretty forthcoming um and honest from what we can tell so we're trying to figure out what kind
37:23of information we can get out of them further you said it would be okay if we go ahead and look
37:27around a little bit to see if there's a firearm in there wait till my wife gets here she's okay
37:32gonna call my wife again
37:33okay so she wants to wait till she gets here okay that's fine we can do that yeah um i like i said i
37:59yeah no the guns were supposed to be gone and they're probably in there so okay i'm gonna lie
38:05to you either way okay uh i thought she took them to her dad's house and i guess she didn't
38:13is this her okay don't get mad at me because she gets mouthy oh she does
38:18hi how are you better how are you state game warden i'm fred this is buck i'm hey we're just here for
38:30information right now okay we're talking with uh we got some information that you guys had some
38:36tags last year for deer and elk nobody's under arrest nobody's in detention right now there's so many
38:42different rules out there so so listen in in 2012 there was a case that went to nevada supreme court
38:49they decided that convicted felons will be banned from having possession of antique or muzzleloader
38:58type weapons that was an actual decision made in nevada but that wasn't quite a long time ago that was in
39:032012. and a lot of people don't stay on top of the case law i want to give that to you guys
39:10the case law so you guys will have that i mean he did say i think when you were on the phone
39:15that um he kept the tags i did i mean it made sense make sure we fill out that postcard whether
39:21you hunt or not so i went online and filled that postcard out that said did you scout no were you
39:27successful no okay because see we filled out for that last year and then this year when we went to
39:33register that's when she's like oh no no you can't hunt and it's like wait the other cop said we could
39:38hunt she's like oh no you can't hunt yeah are you guys in possession of the firearm here
39:44the black powder yeah i have it okay is it uh locked where he can get it he can't be in possession
39:52of it so so you can get bring it to your dad's yeah i can take it to my dad okay yeah and he lives
39:57here yeah he lives right down the street can you do that while we're here yeah can you over here so
40:01that we don't have to take it nobody's gonna freak out when i come out in time no actually you
40:05mind if i go in with you just to make sure it's unloaded that's fine okay due to the circumstances
40:10there's question as to whether or not he was within vicinity or actual possession so at this time
40:16we're removing the firearm from the the dwelling but it is not coming with us i thank you guys for
40:21your cooperation so overall this interaction went fairly smooth it started with the individual being
40:28a little bit less than honest or withholding information from us but in the end that individual
40:32decided to come forward with what was going on and the tags that they had possessed and the animals
40:37they had killed in the past so we are going to leave here today thank you for uh providing the
40:42information and we'll keep in touch with you and we are going to have discussions with the district
40:46attorney and see how the district attorney wants to move forward with this case yeah so it's kind of an
40:51interesting set of circumstances but you know they still had them even though after they knew that
40:58they couldn't be hunting with them they still had them in the closet in their own bedrooms yeah so you
41:02know we i know i know he knew that where they were at that's why he called his wife to ask where
41:07they were i don't know what's going to happen it's going to be uh kind of up to the district attorney
41:11on what he wants to do sounds like a plan okay all right man cool see you
41:32you
