Scientists on the International Space Station demonstrated an f2 soft cell shape in July 2025 using water to reveal its naturally energy-minimizing surfaces. Tibor Kapu is shown adding water into the soft cell wire frame, creating what researchers say is the first realization of a 3D shape with negative space formed entirely by liquid water. Originally designed as a physics demo for students, the video is only now going viral after being published by Oxford Mathematics.
