01:37under Alan Ball unchanged they've not been beaten in the last five games
01:40relegation worries behind them Trevor Ross the young number four keeps his
01:43place and Frank Stapleton is the sub not so simple though for West Ham Padden
01:48McDowell and Holland are injured there was a doubt too about Tommy Taylor at
01:51five he may not be fully fit in fact but these setbacks give another chance at
01:55number eight to 18 year old Alan Kerbishley the referee Kevin McNally from
01:59Cheshire his first visit to Highbury in fact and now we wait for him to get the
02:02game underway so West Ham get us away in white shirts and light blue shorts
02:07attacking the goal to our left against Arsenal in their familiar red and white
02:12shirts very formidable record here to preserve they last conceded the goal at
02:19home on December the 6th played 635 minutes since then seven matches without
02:26conceding one here at Highbury and although their relegation fears of
02:32virtually gone now and indeed West Ham's championship hopes have virtually gone
02:36there's still an immense amount of pride as there always is
02:41with two London sides meet in the derby game here's Mervyn Bain
02:50certainly if West Ham are going to score a goal it might as well be a spectacular one to
02:54beat this Arsenal record like the one that Frank Lampard scored on Wednesday
02:58against Den Haag
03:07looking such a magnificent game against the Dutchman here's Keith Robson the space
03:14here now for Lampard
03:16Taylor slipping that tackle and read the ball going past Mancini as well
03:21Robson hitting that one the linesman flagging on this side for offside against
03:24Billy Jennings
03:25a free kick to Arsenal
03:26Nelson
03:31Colman putting a little bit of a push there on Brian Kidd
03:37Arsenal's free kick
03:39Lampard telling Taylor to go up field as this free kick comes in and finds John Radford now go to the side for so long but back to good effect now
03:48Lampard telling Taylor to go up field as this free kick comes in and finds John Radford now go to the side for so long but back to good effect now
04:00Lampard telling Taylor to go up field as this free kick comes in and finds John Radford now go to the side of the side of the ball came floating in
04:19the West Ham defence best known to themselves allowed that to go right the way through to Alan Ball completely unmarked
04:26completely unmarked past Mervyn Day Arsenal 1 West Ham United 0 2 minutes gone
04:40well West Ham arrived here as the heroes after that magnificent performance against Den Haag
04:44it's Arsenal
04:47it's Arsenal
04:48who are getting the cheers now and particularly their skipper Alan Ball
04:518th goal of the season now for him
04:59Kervisny
05:03second chance
05:05that's not a bad one
05:07Coleman right in there
05:08and Rimmer
05:09could have been fooled by that
05:11but he was nicely faced again
05:12and a tremendous run in there by Coleman
05:18who's hurt
05:22and Taylor turns it
05:24although it's curvishly who eventually turns it into touch
05:34well Coleman will go on
05:35it was certainly a brilliant run that took him into that situation
05:39here's Keith Robson
05:40and Keith Robson
05:41ball versus
05:43ball versus
05:44ball
05:45it's quite a battle
05:46ball winning that one
05:47Armstrong
05:48ball
05:55it's not a back boss either
05:57weiss right in there
05:58Brady right in there
05:59Kidd might get a shot
06:01and Brookin denied him everything and a penalty
06:03penalty
06:05penalty given
06:06could only have been a foul there by Brookin presumably on Kidd
06:10but the penalty was given
06:12without a moment's hesitation by a referee who was well placed
06:16so Mervin Day
06:17again faces Alan Ball from about the sort of range from which Ball scored after two minutes
06:19but now it's a simple matter of Ball against Day
06:23and he's changed it
06:33Armstrong back in there
06:34and Ball against Day
06:35and he's changed it
06:36Armstrong back in there
06:38and ball came to the point in there
06:39but it's a simple matter of Ball against Day
06:40after two minutes, but now it's a simple matter of Ball against Dey.
06:49And he's changed it! Armstrong back in there, and Ball couldn't quite turn it in, and a free kick this time given to West Ham.
06:57A magnificent penalty save goal by Mervyn Dey from Alan Bull.
07:05Well, a fairly incident filled the first 13 minutes of the game.
07:10And Mick McGivern is coming on, and Keith Coleman is going off.
07:16So Keith Coleman has gone, and shoulder injury that he had a few moments ago obviously has upset him.
07:22And here's Mick McGivern on. Defender off, a defender on.
07:35Tremendous acceleration, now finding Brookie.
07:40Made a little curler there to Billy Jennings, and it's there by Jennings, 1-1.
07:52Delight on the West Ham faces, and it all stemmed from a great challenging run by Alan Taylor.
07:57The flick to Trevor Brookings, and a lovely curled toss by Trevor Brookings.
08:02Billy Jennings was up, and that put it past Jimmy Romer, and made it 1-1.
08:09Arsenal 1, West Ham 1.
08:13With 24 minutes gone, Billy Jennings the man who scored.
08:18And the man who made it, Trevor Brookings.
08:20Taylor, a touch for Kervishly, a beautiful touch there by Kervishly for Lampard.
08:31Mancini, half beaten there, but Kervishly couldn't make anything of it in his break.
08:38Rice.
08:38Nelson.
08:46Bradford.
08:48Armstrong.
08:57Oh, what a delicate little chip there now for Ross.
09:00Turned in again, and a diving hitter by Radford, well saved by Irving Day.
09:08Nice little chip there from Trevor Ross.
09:12Radford diving in on day's sake.
09:17Taylor went tumbling, but I think he caught the back of Mancini's heel.
09:22He came back quickly enough at the big Arsenal number five.
09:24And Liam Brady with it.
09:27Long one there, Mancini had come up for it.
09:30Now Kidd.
09:31And another penalty.
09:35Kidd brought down, and Arsenal get another penalty.
09:39Ball versus day, part two.
09:45Kidd is still down.
09:48Don't think he'll be badly hurt.
09:50But certainly it's going to add to the tension at the moment
09:52for two people in particular.
09:55Alan Ball has just said a little prayer.
09:59And he's got to face Irving Day again.
10:05Well.
10:08Now the question going through Alan Ball's mind at the moment
10:11must be, shall I put it the same way again?
10:15Irving Day, saying to himself, which way shall I go now?
10:22Brian Kidd is coming outside the penalty area.
10:25Now.
10:28Is it going to be 1-1?
10:30Or is it going to be 2-1 to Arsenal?
10:33It's 2-1 to Arsenal.
10:37He sent it the other way.
10:41Ball sent it the other way.
10:42Day guessed correctly.
10:44But Ball's shot was too short for him.
10:47into the back of the net.
10:48Into the back of the net.
10:49Arsenal 2, West Ham 1.
10:58Well, Day had no chance with that.
11:01Alan Ball, a perfect penalty.
11:03Now Billy Barnes for West Ham.
11:19Oh, and he hit that straight with George Armstrong.
11:22Now here's a chance for Armstrong.
11:23And that's not the three.
11:25Two goals in a minute.
11:31Have completely undone West Ham.
11:37Well, there was a wild slashing kick in that West Ham defence that gave the ball away.
11:42Armstrong took it.
11:44Took on the defender.
11:45Took it well.
11:46Found his angle.
11:47And beat Day as he came out.
11:49Arsenal 3, West Ham 1.
11:51Well, it was a match.
12:01Arsenal won 3-0 last year.
12:033-1 up now.
12:05What a turnabout in the space of a minute.
12:08Lots of.
12:13Arsenal have not scored more than one goal in the last 11 matches.
12:16They've now chosen this derby game to please their coach, Bobby Campbell on the left.
12:24Now Brady.
12:29Held onto that ball well.
12:30Shielded it beautifully.
12:32And did just what he wanted to do by finding Nelson.
12:34Mancini planting it forward again for Alan Ball.
12:37Really has reveled in this first half as Ball.
12:39And here's Nelson in an obstruction there by Lampard.
12:42Giving Arsenal an interesting free kick.
12:43Which they want to take quickly.
12:45But they'll have to take from the right place.
12:49Injury time now.
12:50We've played nearly a minute of it at the end of the first half.
13:01Brady's going to take this one.
13:02Mancini's right in there.
13:03Jockeying for position.
13:05Curled in there to Raffer.
13:06Hit the crossbar.
13:08And Kidd.
13:10Has he given it?
13:11Yes.
13:11He's given the goal.
13:12Bryan Kidd has scored number four for Arsenal.
13:17Right on the stroke of halftime.
13:23Brady curling that free kick in.
13:25Bradford getting up well and hitting the crossbar.
13:28And Kidd a superhuman jump.
13:31To turn it just over the line before Mervyn Day could claw it out.
13:35Arsenal four.
13:37West Ham one.
13:38An incredible halftime scoreline that's going to be.
13:40Remembering of course that West Ham come without pattern.
13:46Without Holland and McDowell in defence.
13:49And at times it really has shown.
13:51But Arsenal playing with so much confidence.
13:55And a lot of teamwork.
13:57And when you consider that they are this 4-1 ahead.
13:59And they've missed a penalty.
14:01There goes the halftime whistle and what a good first half for Arsenal and for Alan Ball.
14:19One from a penalty, one after two minutes.
14:21One penalty saved by Mervyn Day.
14:24Arsenal also scoring through George Armstrong the number seven and the number ten Bryan Kidd.
14:30West Ham sole reply coming from their number nine Billy Jennings.
14:35Well, no lack of incident in a really sparkling first half.
14:39And let's hope that's continued in the second half.
14:41We take a short break now.
14:43A halftime score at Highbury.
14:45Really bubbling at the moment.
14:46Arsenal four.
14:47West Ham one.
14:48We'll be right back with the second half.
14:50So Arsenal now preparing to get us away at the start of the second half.
15:074-1 into the lead.
15:08West Ham's last away win at Birmingham in November.
15:13They've won only one of their last 14 league games.
15:16None of the last nine.
15:17Goodness, it's going to be a comeback if they can do it here at Highbury this afternoon.
15:23Here's Jimmy Rimmer with the clearance.
15:29Radford.
15:32Armstrong.
15:36Oh, Radford.
15:37Look at the space Radford had there and it took a very good save from Mervyn Day.
15:42Oh, there was an amazing gap there in the West Ham penalty area.
15:46Giving Arsenal that chance of a shot.
15:49And a good save by Day.
15:51It's real ball.
15:55Armstrong again.
16:00Kidd.
16:01And that's another one.
16:11Stopping defence there again by West Ham.
16:14Paul and Armstrong making a good combination down that right touchline.
16:20After a quickly taken free kick.
16:23Kidd making it.
16:25Day possibly at fault there.
16:26Arsenal five, West Ham one.
16:33Second goal for Brian Kidd.
16:34Two players now on a hat-trick for Arsenal.
16:36Kidd and Boone.
16:37Goal!
16:38Goal!
16:39Goal!
16:40Goal!
16:41Goal!
16:42Goal!
16:43Goal!
16:44Goal!
16:45Goal!
16:46Goal!
16:47Goal!
16:48Goal!
16:49Goal!
16:50Goal!
16:51Goal!
16:52Goal!
16:53Goal!
16:54Goal!
16:55Goal!
16:57Goal!
16:58Goal!
17:00Goal!
17:01Goal!
17:02Goal!
17:03Goal!
17:04Goal!
17:05Goal!
17:06Goal!
17:06Goal!
17:07Goal!
17:08Goal!
17:09Goal!
17:10Goal!
17:11Goal!
17:11Goal!
17:12Goal!
17:13Goal!
17:14Brook England chipped in very delicately, but Pat Rice got that away.
17:17Oh!
17:18Oh!
17:19What a kick!
17:20Way!
17:20By that card.
17:22Turned away superbly by Jimmy Rive.
17:24Jimmy Willard. Doesn't score that many goals, Lampard, he's really latched that one.
17:31And Jennings then, nodding it down, only to have it headed away.
17:36What a tremendous shot there by Lampard. Fisted away superbly by Jimmy Willard.
17:43And then when the ball came back in again, and put Arsenal under tremendous pressure once more.
17:50Here's the corner by Brooker. And Seniors header away, nodded back by Kervishly, a fist away by Rimmer.
17:56And a lot of action now at both ends.
18:01And Arsenal want to bring their substitute Frank Stapleton on.
18:07And it's Pat Rice who's coming on.
18:11Well, Frank Stapleton, a striker, goes on, and Pat Rice limping off there.
18:17An injury to his left leg by the look of it.
18:22Bonds.
18:25Bonds going in, Robson going in.
18:28And a foul by Mancini on Keith Robson.
18:31And Mancini being called across to referee Kevin McNally.
18:35Not quite a happy chap.
18:43Both putting their own points of view.
18:47Shouldn't really do that.
18:49That's what he's saying.
18:55Freaking, quickly taken, it's come to Brookie.
18:57It's straight at Armstrong.
18:59Lampard.
19:03Jennings.
19:07That's good again by Mancini.
19:09Well, that might ricochet nicely now for Keith Robson.
19:13This could be it for Robson.
19:15Well, that should have been goal number two for West Ham,
19:19or it could have been after that.
19:21Ricochet put it into the path of Robson.
19:23Took A.
19:25Lost it.
19:26But wide-liver.
19:31F
19:41F
19:44F
19:47West Ham had such a long thrust towards the championship, but after their bad run in recent weeks, they've now dropped to 12th, and Arsenal after their good recent run have come up to 16th with only 3 points separating them, and now here's Brian Kidd on a hat-trick, stopped by Mervinday.
20:17Oh, it's down.
20:28Well run from McGibbon, straight to Ball, comes now to Stapleton, Radford unmarked on the right-hand side there, Radford on it, another very good save indeed by Mervinday.
20:37A lovely quick break again by Arsenal, and Radford showing tremendous zest and acceleration there, and a really good powerful shot.
20:49Well saved by Mervinday.
20:52Here's the corner with George Armstrong to take it.
20:54And Lampard heading it away, that would have crept just in.
21:07Looking away, Billy Jennings after it.
21:10Again Trevor Ross.
21:12Riley really has had a good game.
21:15Ball, a touch-off there for Brady, through for Ball again.
21:17And this could be the next one, and it is a hat-trick, but no, this is now, offside and this is now.
21:28And they've already played again, match in progress.
21:36Kidd turning that ball in, but not much doubt about it that it was offside.
21:44Now it's with Lear.
21:47It's whetted the crowd's appetite, it's got them going a bit again.
21:57Brady.
21:58The academic second half, a bit of an anti-climax up to that point.
22:03Now Sporting Manor also, but now Kidd.
22:07Still looking for that hat-trick.
22:10And he won't get it back.
22:12Powerful shot.
22:13Complaining, as players will always do, that there was at least a corner in it for them, but the referee disagreed.
22:29There goes Billy Jennings after that one, but Pauline kept his eye on the ball beautifully.
22:37Lampard turning up and away.
22:38Stabler.
22:52Stabler.
22:56Ball.
22:58Brady.
22:59Cowley.
23:01Straight at Jennings.
23:02Taylor.
23:04Ball in first again.
23:06Mancini, Bradford turning it on towards Keardt, now there's Keardt, oh, that's one, well that's twice he's been so close to that hat-trick, Bradford turned that one on nicely, Keardt was on it like a flash, tremendous shot, hitting the rest hand towards Keardt,
23:36oh, play through to Keardt again, now, will it be the hat-trick, this time it is, and number six for Arsenal, and a day of great sorrow for Birmingham and West Ham, six foot past them, three of them by the number ten, Bradford,
24:04a lovely ball that time from Alan Ball, and there they are, hugging each other, the men who made that goal, Ball's passed, Keardt running onto it beautifully, left-footed, past Bourbon Day, Arsenal six, West Ham one, Patrick Mann, it's Brian Keardt.
24:24Arsenal six, for Arsenal, Arsenal six!
24:37Arsenal six!
24:38Barn's trying to make something of that.
24:40Let's find a big team, Leia team, with a big team, and are you all right now?
24:44Arsenal six, girl, Arsenal six, Seven, Eight, Four, a very remarkable performance by Arsenaletty.
24:48Well, a really remarkable performance by Arsenal.
24:52Even allowing for the fact that West Ham had a very hard European game on Wednesday.
24:58And that's the direction their thoughts are taking at the moment.
25:02Alan Ball was saying before the start, it's a test of our better form over the last few weeks as to what we can do against West Ham today.
25:10They really have done well.
25:13Brady trying to flick that one for Stapleton.
25:16And a goal kick.
25:24I must say managers never show their feelings outwardly.
25:28I would have thought Bernie May up on the left-hand side with a hat.
25:32Must be fairly happy with things as opposed to Ron Greenwood bottom left there.
25:36He's side 6-1 now.
25:46They really have got the taste for it at the moment, Arsenal.
25:54None more so than Alan Ball, chasing everything.
25:58It's all afternoon that West Ham can't wait to come to an end now.
26:10And I would have thought Arsenal would want to go on forever.
26:12But now it is all over.
26:14Fine performance by Arsenal.
26:16It takes me for Brian Kidd with three goals to his name.
26:20Two going to Alan Ball.
26:22One going to George Armstrong as well.
26:24And six times, Mervyn Day had to pick the ball out of the back early.
26:28So while West Ham's gaze was averted towards Europe,
26:32they find themselves hit for six there by Arsenal this afternoon.
26:36The Arsenal fans are applauding their team off the field,
26:39which is nice to see and to hear.
26:42Because in fact, it's been a fairly miserable season at Highbury for so long.
26:46And certainly their play today matched the sunshine.
26:50And a final score line then at Highbury.
26:54Arsenal, six.
26:56West Ham, one.
26:58What a remarkable afternoon's football.
27:00And I must tell you a little story that makes it, I think,
27:02a little more remarkable still.
27:04Alan Ball woke up yesterday feeling a little under the weather.
27:06So he took a couple of aspirins only to find that after he'd taken them
27:10that they were in fact sleeping pills.
27:12So before the match, there he was in a cold bath at Highbury,
27:15trying to wake himself up.
27:16And as you saw, he did it to very good effect with two goals.
27:19One after only two minutes, it must have worked.
27:21Now, while it's true that West Ham were weakened
27:23and perhaps have Europe as their number one target,
27:25I think it would be quite wrong to undersell the quality
27:27of Arsenal's performance yesterday.
27:29They played well.
27:30And nobody had a more successful afternoon
27:32than the hat-trick man, Brian Kidd.
27:34And I suggested that it must have been the happiest day of the season
27:36for him and Arsenal.
27:38It was, Brian, especially with, in recent weeks,
27:42I think that's the sixth game now.
27:44We've only dropped a couple of points in that
27:46and really we was fighting against allegations.
27:48A matter of three or four weeks ago.
27:50So everything's came right at the right time.
27:52I thought your hat-trick was never going to come.
27:54You got two and then you seemed to do everything but score after that.
27:57Well, the lads were making that many chances for me.
27:59I was confident it was going to come, you know, really.
28:02Not the first hat-trick you've scored, of course, for Arsenal, is it?
28:04No, last year it was in the Cup against York City.
28:07Alan Ball was saying before the start today,
28:09he said, I think you'll see a difference.
28:10We seem to have turned the corner.
28:11I mean, 6-1 obviously speaks for itself.
28:13But overall, do you feel that Arsenal have turned the corner now?
28:16Yes, myself personally, I thought when we went up and played Middlesbrough,
28:22I didn't think we got the credit we deserved up there
28:24because we played really some very good patient football,
28:27especially playing against Middlesbrough,
28:28because they had five at the back.
28:30And that was when I really felt confident when we went up to Middlesbrough
28:33and we got the two points.
28:34There was never any danger of losing their two points up there.
28:39No.
28:40What about West Ham today?
28:41I think a lot of people will feel that their eyes are more on Europe
28:43than they are on Football League games now.
28:45Did you sense any lack of competitiveness about them at all?
28:48Not really.
28:49I don't think you could say that about West Ham
28:50because we had a game also in midweek where we needed the points.
28:53Obviously, being near the wrong end of the table,
28:55I think that would be taking the credit away from Arsenal and the lads.
28:59Two little controversial points.
29:01Your goal just before half-time,
29:03it did cross the line, you reckon?
29:04Yeah.
29:05I was glad the linesman gave it, you know.
29:07Yeah, he was over.
29:08I think he can see by the telly anyway.
29:10And what did you say when the skipper missed a penalty?
29:12And what did he say?
29:13I think if you were to ask the lads,
29:15we'd all have a bet that Barley wouldn't miss a penalty
29:17because I lay 6-4, it's the stanchion.
29:19That's how confident I am with him.
29:22Does he normally put them out?
29:23He put it the other side, the second one,
29:25and that did hit the stanchion, didn't it?
29:26He varies them both sides.
29:28That's how good he is.
29:29Both stanchions.
29:30No, I was very surprised.
29:32But there again, when he took the second one,
29:34it shows you the character of the man.
29:35To come up and nonchalantly take that
29:37and send him the wrong way, I think, was it?
29:39Sent him the wrong way.
29:40A real day to savor, though, today for you?
29:42I would think so, for the lads also.
29:44And we're going away to Bournemouth for a couple of days,
29:45so it'll be more enjoyable now.
29:47Brian.
29:48Well, in fact, the pictures don't really point out
29:49whether or not Brian Kidd's header did cross the line
29:52or not just before half-time,
29:53but you have to add that the linesman was perfectly placed
29:55and he was the man who signalled that, in fact,
29:57it was a good goal.
29:58But the Arsenal penalties, they came at a crucial time in the game.
30:01I think we ought to clear up any controversy about them now.
30:03In fact, Brian Kidd was involved in both of them.
30:05Here's the first one coming up now,
30:07where he's challenged by Tommy Taylor,
30:08not Trevor Brookings, as I said earlier.
30:10And you can see Tommy Taylor just gets his right knee,
30:13I think, in the groin of Brian Kidd there,
30:15brings him down, and look at the placing of the referee.
30:17He couldn't have been a better place to see it.
30:20The second one, perhaps a little more problematical.
30:23Brian Kidd again taking possession here,
30:25and it's the challenge from Frank Lampard coming up now.
30:27There is a contact made,
30:30although it's a rather delayed fall there by Brian Kidd.
30:33That may be a little more problematical,
30:36but I think maybe the referee was right to give both those penalties.
30:47Our second match today, more goals at Notts County,
30:51who started the day just about in the running for a shout at promotion,
30:54provided they could keep a winning run going.
30:56Against Blackpool at Meadow Lane Nottingham,
30:58the pictures come from ATV,
31:00the commentators Hugh Johns,
31:01Notts County are in the stripes.
31:10Stubbs is chasing it and have a second bite.
31:13It's a mile away from it.
31:15Ainsco winning the throw in.
31:20For Evanson.
31:24Looking for Walsh.
31:29And that's Smith, and that's 1-0 Blackpool.
31:32Two minutes into the second half, a shot goal then.
31:36Evanson curling that ball in.
31:41Smith jumped for it.
31:43Stubbs lost it in the air.
31:46And when it came down,
31:47Malcolm Smith tapped in.
31:49A very simple goal.
31:50His fourth since he came to the club on loan from Middlesbrough.
31:541-0.
31:55Ainsco going through the middle.
31:59Well trapped by Ridley.
32:01Had to be right when he laid it off well.
32:04Stubbs.
32:08That was not a good one.
32:10McVay.
32:13That's a fine ball.
32:15For Mann.
32:16And it's in there.
32:17Well that's an incredible narrow angle goal.
32:19For number 10.
32:20Off the man.
32:211-1.
32:22Nine minutes into the game.
32:23Are the man's first goal of the season.
32:25I totally think that must have taken some sort of a deflection.
32:26Maybe off goalkeeper George Wood.
32:27But narrow those two angles and Mann belts in the equaliser.
32:29In for Scammer.
32:30Robbed.
32:31And it's Ainsco.
32:32Ainsco when he first came in to the side was labelled the new Alan Ball for Blackpool.
32:35Oh no.
32:36That's a good one.
32:37Nine minutes into the game.
32:38Are the man's first goal of the season.
32:39I totally think that must have taken some sort of a deflection.
32:40Maybe off goalkeeper George Wood.
32:41But now those two angles and Mann belts in the equaliser.
32:44In for Scammer.
32:45Robbed.
32:46And it's Ainsco.
32:47Ainsco when he first came in to the side was labelled the new Alan Ball for Blackpool.
32:58Oh and a ball thrown back to Smith.
33:00And he's still there.
33:01And it is 2-1.
33:03It is 2-1 and Smith got his second goal in the way 15 minutes into the game.
33:09Tragedy for Notts County.
33:12Absolutely diabolical blunders.
33:15The ball passed back.
33:18Not taken clean by the goalkeeper.
33:22And Smith says thank you very much.
33:25Pick that one out.
33:262-1 Blackpool.
33:27And that could well be a defeat that's just about finished Notts County's hopes of promotion.
33:32But now sit back and enjoy some really explosive action as we bring you the 12 best goals of the big match season.
33:38It's a prelude really to our golden goals competition when we have to cut this list of 12 down to a final six.
33:44And we shall do that in time for next Sunday's programme when we shall also be telling you how to set about voting for golden goals.
33:49Today you've got nothing to do except to enjoy these 12 goals.
33:53And we start back in August and move through to this month.
33:56So goal number one is by Brian Basson of Chelsea in the game against Carlisle.
34:01With Basson outside him.
34:08Played for Charlie Cook.
34:10Back for Graham Wilkins.
34:13Basson hobbling badly at the moment now.
34:15They've got Maybank already off the field injured a moment ago.
34:18Brian Basson hobbling very badly.
34:20In possession now.
34:21Obviously in some discomfort.
34:23Oh!
34:24Oh!
34:25But what a goal!
34:27Goal number two by Mick Barry for Carlisle.
34:30It came in the same match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
34:34Now a trade.
34:37Carlisle by now I would have thought pretty demoralised.
34:40They offered a fair bit particularly in the opening 20 minutes when they came forward with a lot of aggression and purpose.
34:45Oh!
34:46And there's a great goal!
34:47Oh!
34:48My goodness!
34:49What a goal by Barry!
34:50Goal number three by Alan Taylor for West Ham United in this game against Manchester United at Upton Park.
34:58Down forward.
34:59Put out a little bit there by Cockle's face but then very skillfully finding Merlindale.
35:10Tremendous kick the day has got and Taylor is after it and he might get there!
35:13Yes!
35:14Alan Taylor!
35:15Goal number four.
35:16It's another West Ham goal.
35:17It's scored by Trevor Brooking in the match against Derby County at the baseball ground.
35:27Matt Holland to pick up Brookie.
35:29Oh!
35:30What a nice bit of work.
35:31What a good goal!
35:32What a good goal!
35:33That wasn't even a opportunity of saying what a good shot.
35:37That was a goal from the time it left Brooking Street.
35:40Goal number five.
35:41This is Alan Woodward's goal for Sheffield United again against Derby County again at the baseball ground.
35:47Field tipping that back.
35:48Aim for Guthrie.
35:49Didn't come to it.
35:52A whack after the ball had gone on Guthrie introducing the free kick.
35:56Tony Curry rolling it for Woodward.
36:00That's a good one!
36:01What a goal!
36:02Oh!
36:03Unbelievable!
36:04Goal number six.
36:05Sam Allardyce scored this one for Bolton Wanderers in the important second division game against Sunderland.
36:14Paul Jones has gone up into the goal mouth as Thompson takes the corner.
36:19And in comes Allardyce!
36:21So we come to goal number seven.
36:24It's by Donald Murphy for Coventry City.
36:27This was against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
36:31Dugdale.
36:34Coop.
36:36Cross going over the far side of the penalty area.
36:38Up he goes.
36:40And Murphy!
36:41What a shot!
36:42What a shot from Donald Murphy!
36:45Goal number eight.
36:46Scored by Alex Forsyth for Manchester United in their game against Birmingham City at Old Trafford.
37:01It was a good try.
37:03And back in again by Forsyth!
37:05Goal number nine.
37:06Nicky Chaddon of Crystal Palace scored this one and it came against Swindon Town at Selhurst Park.
37:16Cannon.
37:18Oh, look at that for a bit of running and a bit of space there for Stuart John.
37:23Hit low there towards Whittle.
37:25Thought about having a shot, thought about playing it back for Chaddon.
37:29And that's what he's done!
37:30Oh!
37:31And what a goal!
37:33Goal number ten.
37:34Scored by Brian Kidd for Arsenal.
37:36And it came in their match against Norwich City at Carrow Road.
37:40Machen.
37:41Machen coming again.
37:45Ross looking for Armstrong.
37:47And that's a good one to Ball.
37:49Kidd coming to the near post.
37:51Kidd coming in.
37:52A great goal!
37:54A lovely bit of work.
37:56Goal number eleven.
37:57A Wembley goal.
37:58Scored by Dennis Stewart for Manchester City in the League Cup Final against New England.
38:01Now McDonnell.
38:02Royal.
38:03Oaks.
38:04Donachy.
38:05Got Barnes outside him.
38:06Donachy prepared though to float it in towards Tommy Booth.
38:07Oh!
38:08And what a goal!
38:09By Chewlett!
38:10Goal number twelve.
38:11Alan Whittle of Crystal Palace scored this one in the Cup tie against Sunderland at Roker Park.
38:16Kerr now will take this kick.
38:17Is this gonna be a problem for Crystal Palace?
38:18It's not because Hammond is there.
38:19And look at that for a good throw.
38:20Straight into the path of Peter Taylor.
38:21Whittle is up with him as well.
38:22Taylor taking on Bolton.
38:23Moncur getting in behind Bolton.
38:24Moncur getting in behind Bolton.
38:25And he needs to.
38:26He's going past Moncur as well.
38:27There's the cross coming in.
38:28Whittle a go!
38:29Alan Whittle!
38:30A go!
38:31Alan Whittle!
38:32And he needs to.
38:33He's going past Moncur as well.
38:34There's the cross coming in.
38:35Whittle a go!
38:36Alan Whittle!
38:37What marvellous goals we had there.
38:38And what a job we're gonna have cutting them down to the final six to present to you next Sunday.
38:40And it's gonna be a problem for Crystal Palace.
38:41It's not because Hammond is there.
38:42And look at that for a good throw.
38:43Straight into the path of Peter Taylor.
38:44Whittle is up with him as well.
38:45Taylor taking on Bolton.
38:46Moncur getting in behind Bolton.
38:47And he needs to.
38:48He's going past Moncur as well.
38:49There's the cross coming in.
38:50Whittle a go!
38:51Alan Whittle!
38:52What marvellous goals we had there.
38:53And what a job we're gonna have cutting them down to the final six to present to you next Sunday.
39:07And our last match today is quite remarkable.
39:17More than anything because all six goals came in the first half.
39:20Five of them in the last eight minutes before the interval.
39:23As fourth division leaders Northampton Town took on Bournemouth at Northampton.
39:26Pictures from Anglia.
39:27The commentator Jerry Harris in Northampton Town are in the white shirts.
39:32Jeff Butler.
39:34Battle.
39:35Goddard.
39:36Go!
39:37Goddard!
39:38Go!
39:39Go!
39:44Hey.
39:45In goes Martin.
39:50Best.
39:51Stratford going forward with Payne.
39:53Bit of a push there.
39:54But Payne's first.
39:55And Payne goes wide.
39:57Payne's first and Payne goes wide if he's required by the goalkeeper which he isn't
40:13Gregory and Goddard and it's a Bournemouth throw
40:18John Benson and Fred Davis on that bench just to meet in front of us
40:27Now Bournemouth pushing more players up for this one
40:34Including centre-half Morgan, this is Battle, Morgan's on the edge of the area as Miller is well challenged by Best
40:44and the centre-half is absent, can Jim Hall get through his pass take, Jim Hall, what a great goal
40:57Dog here left with no chance there, badly exposed, well interesting that it all started from the free kick on the left
41:06which seemed to be building up well with Stuart Morgan getting up into attacking position
41:11but Best did a great job there by getting the ball away from Bournemouth, it was eventually fed through to Jim Hall
41:16and on that left foot, in it goes
41:24Jim Hall with Morgan, his Stratford, away goes Farrington, it's a good move
41:28and it's down, coming up fast on the inside, Billy Best
41:41well that was a good looking move
41:45driven down the middle, the flick on put Farrington in the good position, an awkward bouncing ball he did
41:53well to hit it and find the target, the goalkeeper couldn't gather it and Best coming up very fast
41:58to add support, knocks it in, 2-0
42:01Phillips now
42:04Hall's the only one up front, Stratford's gone up to help
42:07Phillips against Grapes
42:10Hall against Morgan
42:14he's lost him
42:16and there's Stratford
42:17there's Adam
42:19Best again
42:23well extraordinary
42:30he keeps popping up in exactly the right position
42:33with perhaps a fraction of luck there
42:35when Jim Hall turned Morgan inside out
42:38the driven cross was flicked on by Paul Stratford
42:41straight to Best and he didn't waste any time
42:43right past the goalkeeper, number three
42:45and one from Martin off the back of Payne
42:55Stratford
42:57past him
42:58now Morgan
43:00Stratford's going well
43:02no foul says Mr Spencer
43:03here's Reeves
43:11Tucker
43:13Martin
43:14and so good one into space for Best, is he going for the hat-trick here
43:17didn't drop quite right for him
43:20he's really got the taste up there and a lot of space for Farrington Best stays in the penalty area
43:25Jim Hall over the far post
43:27this is Farrington and
43:29Morgan got a shot in that wasn't far away
43:35and Bournemouth
43:37their defence seems to be in ruins here
43:42Robertson
43:43now Stratford
43:46Hall turning against Morgan
43:48still manages to keep it but Howard gets away
43:52and here's Hall is on his left foot again
44:01and they're carving them up here
44:05poor old Kieran Baker doesn't know what's hitting
44:08they're coming at him from all angles
44:10and every shot's going in
44:12and a bit of perseverance by Hall got them through here
44:16and then as he kept going forward he took a good pass from Phillips
44:19and on that left foot he doesn't need much of a space to squeeze it in
44:23and it's 4-0
44:29now Phillips
44:31strapped for the touch
44:32Howard
44:34and Grapes has switched flanks
44:38Gregory doesn't need the challenge because he's taken it over the line
44:46Butler
44:51Farrington's still coming
44:52there's Hall
44:54that's a hat-trick
45:00well what an extraordinary finish to this half
45:08and that again was casualness by the Bournemouth defence exploited by the speed and enthusiasm
45:13first of all of Farrington who really came in hard and fast behind Butler
45:18he gets the crossover and although off balance Jim Hall gets it in
45:22and that's four goals in just over seven minutes a hat-trick for Jim Hall
45:28and a magnificent looking scoreline for Northampton and here goes McGowan Farrington's out there
45:34Butler to Grapes
45:44here's Bottle
45:46Phillips challenging in goes Robertson
45:48best
45:54best
45:54Hall
45:56and Stratford's going
46:01extraordinary
46:04it's six
46:08well just have a look at that one again as it comes forward to Jim Hall and Stratford breaks
46:13does he control this with his right hand
46:15anyhow he gets the break and drops onto his right foot and that's number six
46:21six in the first half none in the second that's it then goals all the way and we leave you today
46:25reflecting on what a happy day it was for Arsenal and to add of course that we're still rooting for
46:29West Ham in the cup winners cup yesterday unashamedly Arsenal's day six goals and smiles wherever you looked
46:35oh Armstrong and echo ball with a shot that's a goal is it going to be 2-1 to Arsenal
46:42it's 2-1 to Arsenal
46:43it's 2-1 to Armstrong now here's a chance for Armstrong and that's number three
46:49curly net a record hit the cross ball and Kidd
46:55Kidd and that's another one
46:58ball playing through to Kidd again now will it be the hat-trick this time it is
47:05the
47:11the
47:13the
47:16the
47:18the
47:20the
