00:00In recent times, one question on the minds of many Nigerians is, when will our communities,
00:09our roads, our schools, our society be safe again? We all can see the insecurity
00:15maintenance currently in Nigeria. Begging the question, how will the government deal with
00:22this situation? It is a very nasty one that we found ourselves as a stance, but of course we
00:27are having a lot of reactions from different aspects of the government. The Southwest Governors
00:33Forum last week held an emergency meeting in this regard to discuss on the impending threat
00:40facing the region in terms of insecurity. Comprising of governors from Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo,
00:46Osho and Oyo State gathered for an emergency meeting in Imbado to discuss the high increase
00:53in threats facing the region. They concluded in the aftermath of the meeting that state policing
01:00is mandatory and there is no going back in this initiative. The presidency as well backed this new
01:06initiative by the Southwest Governors saying that a state policing initiative will kick off in earnest.
01:13However, this needs to be fast-tracked by the National Assembly. Begging the question on, will this really
01:19solve or tackle the maintenance of insecurity in Nigeria? Northern Governors Forum as well followed
01:26suit and these are beginning to look at, is this the right way to do or the next step to tackle the
01:32insecurity that we have in the nation? Northern Governors Forum as well concluded that they will
01:39also establish security trust fund to also combat this. They say that there will be needed one billion
01:45error annually and in times of funds to tackle the insecurity in the region. We know a quite a number
01:51of groups like the Boko Haram, Iswab, Lakorowa's group. A lot of them in recent times attack notable
01:57places in Kwara, Kogi, Niger, a lot of them kidnapping school children, church members and all lies.
02:04Begin the questions that how safe it is for Nigerians and I must say that as Nigerians without safety there is
02:12no country. The Nigerian government needs to do better. We are asking a lot of questions at this
02:17time and how can the people sleep better at night? President Bola Metinubo however promised a lot of
02:25changes first by ensuring that the former head of service of the service chiefs were all relieved of
02:33their duties and in turn he appointed several new ones and General Christopher Moussa as the new
02:40Minister of Defence. Do you think some of this new initiative can bring the turnaround we need in
02:47our security watch in Nigeria? A lot of questions like I said but who will give the answers? That
02:57will be the size of our package on security matters today but don't you worry we will be back on the
03:02street as well to keep you updated on the happenings across Nigeria. Oluka Adi Oluomua for Guardian TV
03:09and I'll see you next time.
