Premier Cho Jung-tai says the government still supports an eventual phaseout of nuclear power--but that it may need to be pushed back. That's amid talk that two shuttered plants could come back online in the coming years if they pass safety evaluations.

00:05closed nuclear plants could restart in the next few years.
00:09Under the ruling DPP, Taiwan has shut down all its nuclear reactors.
00:13But the Taiwan Power Company plans safety inspections at two shuttered plants, and if
00:18they're found safe, there's a chance that they could come back online.
00:22The premier says the government is not walking back its policy, but that the phase-out of
00:26nuclear power may have to be pushed back as Taiwan develops renewable energy.
00:31He also says the government may one day rethink its nuclear policy if new technologies come
00:35along that guarantee safety, solve the nuclear waste problem, and win public backing.
