00:00In the news, hundreds of Japanese citizens protested outside Prime Minister Sanae Takeishi's official residence,
00:06demanding she retract her recent statements on Taiwan.

00:18I am in Beijing now, in the capital of China,
00:21to report about the recent protest against the Prime Minister of Japan,
00:26where the Japanese citizens, for the third time in just a few weeks,
00:32gathered outside the Prime Minister's official residence,
00:36demanding that she retract her controversial statements about Taiwan
00:42and rejecting any rhetoric that could incite in military conflict.
00:48The protestors carry banners with messages such against war,
00:53and Takashi resigned.
00:56While chanting slogans to halt military expansion and missile deployment.
01:04This demonstration reflect a widespread rejection of any stance
01:10that might contradict Japanese commitment to the peace,
01:15enlightened in, signed in 1947 Constitution.
01:20and this prohibits country from recording to war and military force to resolve international disputes.
01:31It's important to remember that according to the United Nations and Japan's own official positions,
01:39Taiwan is considered part of China.
01:43Therefore, any statement that implies that the possibility of foreign military intervention in the region violates the principle of state sovereignty and international law,
01:58and reopens and also reopens historical wounds from the Japanese occupation and war committed in the China during the Second World War,
02:11where the Japanese Empire exterminated more than 35 million Chinese civilians.
