China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs sharply rejected Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s explanation for her remarks suggesting that a Taiwan conflict could trigger Japan’s right to collective self-defence. MOFA spokesperson Guo Jiakun called Japan’s response “delusional” and accused Tokyo of trying to “bury its head in the sand” by downplaying the statements. The issue has intensified tensions between China and Japan amid ongoing regional concerns involving Taiwan and U.S. policy.
