What is going on with IndiGo?

00:05These are just some of the scenes flooding social media

00:07as over 200 Indigo flights were cancelled across India in the last 48 hours.

00:15You see long queues at Indigo counters, thousands stranded,

00:19unable to make it in time for important events.

00:22Frayed tempers and an overall sense of helplessness.

00:26This is India's biggest domestic airline

00:30and often touted as the most trustable one.

00:37The same question echoed in everyone's mind.

00:40What was the reason for one of the most serious operational disruptions in recent years

00:44and why only Indigo?

00:51Well, Indigo blamed many factors

00:54and the crisis is spiraling over to other domestic flight operators as well

00:58as people scuttle to reschedule.

01:00For one, Indigo has been facing an acute shortage of crew and pilots since November 1st.

01:05India has also just implemented the latest flight duty time limitations

01:09to reduce cabin fatigue.

01:11And Indigo, which runs over 2,200 flights a day

01:14and substantial nighttime flights,

01:16just wasn't able to overhaul their entire rosters in time.

01:19Night landings are also being affected by winter and fog conditions

01:23which further added to the multitude of unforeseen reasons according to the airline.

01:27So, while other airlines with smaller networks managed to fix their schedules,

01:31Indigo couldn't with their high-frequency overnight services.
