Sabah BN chairman Bung Moktar passes away

Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who also served as Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman, passed away at 66 at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu at 1.46am on Friday (Dec 5).

His son, Naeem Kurniawan Mokhtar, confirmed that he breathed his last at 1.46 a.m. on Friday.

Bung Mokhtar, who was also the Lamag Assemblyman,

had been admitted to a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu for severe lung infection.

His condition later worsened after developing kidney complications

before he succumbed to the illness.

His remains were brought to the family home in Luyang

and will be taken to the Sabah State Mosque for funeral prayers.

He will be laid to rest at the Kampung Lika Cemetery after Friday prayers.

In the November 29 Sabah State election, Bung Mokhtar retained the Lamag seat with a 153-vote majority

in a six-cornered contest, having also won it in the previous state polls.

He first won the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat in 1999 and went on to serve six terms as MP.

Born on September 15, 1959, in Sukkau Kinabatangan, Bung Mokhtar leaves behind his two wives,
