Transcript
00:00such a fan of the show such a fan of you um uh listen the show got a lot of nominations is there
00:07one that really you know is most meaningful to you i mean i don't want to say the one that's
00:13missing is the most meaningful because that was the one that really still burns but but one most
00:17meaningful to you oh i mean i think i mean the show i mean we're everywhere because yeah the
00:24show yeah the show would be the that would be the big get because it's all because there's a couple
00:29thousand people that worked on the show so it's for all of them then so that would be the one yeah
00:33that would be the one i'd love to see yeah and have you i i brought it up because it obviously
00:39must be painful that he didn't get nominated for for best actor but how do you feel about that being
00:44here today without him uh it's a drag i mean i i mean i've commented on before i mean i think that
00:51look i think this is such a huge game the emmys are so huge i mean the academy awards i kind of
00:55understood because i went through it for 25 30 years and like that's kind of a game but this is
01:00like four-dimensional and it's so huge and the idea that people can see all the shows much less pay
01:06attention to them and it's a game so um what do you hope for i mean i hope i i really do think our
01:15show will be something that people can watch 10 15 20 years from now and i think those performances
01:19will will be sustaining i mean they're really epic performances yeah i really loved reading about
01:25your creative process and how uh you've done so many brilliant interviews just sort of about like
01:30how it first came your way with kathleen and then it kind of went away and then it came back and it
01:35just and then now how it just how you were able to get through it and just you know i also love what
01:39you had to say about creatively putting so much of yourself into it for every waking moment for all
01:44those years and now to be done for how are you feeling coming on the other side of it beyond
01:47knowing that people will watch it from here on out i the i did something that you always tell
01:53you so i i i i made sure you try to do this all the time and most of the time you fail you finish
01:59something and you try to have something right away that you can go into right away so you so you don't
02:03have postpartum depression and you don't freak out and many times i have planned on that and not
02:09deliver this time i did i i as we were finishing last summer i wrote a script and i'll be making that
02:14we'll start shooting in november with pedro pascal so i'm like i'm in a really good place i don't have
02:19to be teary and i don't have to be worried about where my imagination is going i have some place to
02:23put my energy yeah and you have somebody like pedro at this moment in time which has got to feel pretty
02:28good very cool very cool yeah yeah and then also you know i i gotta ask you we're we're we're living
02:33through a really weird awful week um and and your show speaks to so many things that have come up
02:39uh in our culture fascism you know are you how do you manage that both
02:45do do you do you are you watching the news every day are you reading the headlines how do you monitor
02:51sort of the flow of incoming dread i'm not on social media you know i don't have a presence
02:57on social media so i'm i'm safe from uh 3 a.m comments and i'm safe from making mistakes like that
03:04i think uh yeah i do pay i mean we have to pay attention we've had to pay attention for the last six
03:08months seven months as we release the show because of all the synchronicity that that's been there
03:14um what can i say i mean look i was 12 years old in 60 in the spring of 68 uh there's no room for
03:21political violence i mean i i those three months in 68 man are like that's burned into my brain and i
03:29don't i don't think anybody would willingly go back to that place but we'll see and you don't really
03:36recover from experiencing that moment i mean especially in 68 no but i mean i you know the
03:43irony is you think you get to my age and you've been through everything and even i've been through
03:47vietnam i've been through that i've been through the civil rights i've been you know 9 11 you sort
03:53of felt history was done with you and it turned out history was not done with me yet so uh yeah it's a
03:58little disappointing to find out history is still kicking down the door i know man
04:03when are we going to stop living through this historic week up man yeah yeah god thank god
04:09that you have this exciting thing to go through and in november so so yeah you have a good place
04:13so so tell me is is there you know come monday morning tomorrow morning and they no i have an
04:19hod meeting i have a heads of department meeting at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning no and i have uh
04:23uh previs and camera tests and everything going no i have a busy day tomorrow
04:27no i might be a little hungover but i'll be there and what do you allow yourself the end of a night
04:33like this are you an in-and-out guy like what do you like at the end of a long award show night
04:37oh man i'll go well i won't go like the old days no but i'll go out no i'll go out yeah no
04:44also i'm the boss tomorrow so if i'm a little shaggy at the meeting no it's all right
04:48it's all right no i'm yeah so i'll be all right
