'The Continental' will be exec produced by the screenwriter behind the franchise as well as original star Keanu Reeves.

00:02Yeah, I'm thinking I'm back.
00:07John Wick is headed to the small screen.
00:10On Friday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour,
00:13Starz announced it's developing The Continental,
00:16an ongoing drama series based on the film franchise starring Keanu Reeves.
00:21According to Starz execs, Reeves is expected to make an appearance in the potential series,
00:25but will not star in it since the project exists side by side
00:29with the feature universe.
00:31The potential TV series is set in the John Wick universe and focuses on the inner workings
00:35of the exclusive Continental Hotel, which serves as a refuge for assassins.
00:40Chris Collins, who's known for Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, and Man in the High Castle,
00:45will write the script and serve as showrunner.
00:48The original film's creative team are also on board the TV offshoot as executive producers.
00:52Among them are Reeves, original franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad,
00:56and Chad Stahelski, who directed the first two movies and is returning for the third.
01:01Stahelski will direct the premiere if the drama moves forward.
01:04John Wick, produced by Lionsgate, which now fully owns Starz, has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide.
01:10The third film with Reeves starring is due in 2019.
01:14The Continental arrives as Starz continues to ramp up its scripted offerings from Lionsgate
01:19after the company was sold last year.
01:21And as reboots and spinoffs remain in high demand as broadcast cable and streaming platforms
01:26continue to look for proven franchises in a bid to cut through a cluttered landscape
01:30that is expected to top 520 original scripted series in 2018.
