Transcript
00:00Derbyshire traffic cops it does have warning markers for potential firearms
00:13Police a thousand square miles
00:21It's a crash crash you've got any other injury other than your head with some of the UK's most dangerous roads
00:30I don't know what has been killed out of this. I don't know
00:33Do you know how fast you were going? It's scary when stuff like this happens
00:36In life and death situations
00:39Get on the ground you'll be tainted
00:41We've got runners
00:42Face down
00:44Yes, yes successful steam
00:47Around every corner
00:50Great acting mate
00:53There's a new challenge
00:55For the traffic cops
00:57They're driving the vehicle now
00:59I'm going home
01:01Stop grabbing me like that
01:07Coming up
01:08They're talking out to 140 vehicles in lane 404 in the distance
01:13Dangerous and illegal drivers
01:15You are disqualified from driving
01:17Load 65
01:18So we need a double limit
01:19Just put your own value back please
01:21Breaking the law
01:22It's come back as positive cocaine
01:25Take me to the station where I can't be arse of it
01:27He has got a really nasty head injury
01:29Ruining lives
01:31Are you okay?
01:32One more call then
01:34Yeah
01:35You've got a dead baby there
01:36The vehicle is off, off, off
01:37And on the run
01:39It's gone straight through the red line
01:41To climb
01:42Freeminate have I got any Oscar tango units please
01:54That can start making the way M1 northbound
01:58The M1 motorway, near the Yorkshire border.
02:09Derbyshire's road crime team are tailing a reckless driver.
02:24The car's heading north towards Sheffield.
02:28With the unit's lead vehicle seconds behind.
02:30Convictor 2, we've got a fail to stop towards Renishaw.
02:34Currently through the traffic light.
02:36Lead, 7-0 to BMW.
02:403 Series.
02:42Coming to your neighbor, I'm at 28.
02:45PC Mark Scott's backing up the pursuit car, coordinating the team's response.
02:50Convictor 2, passing the petrol station.
02:549-0.
02:55It's quite populated, it's through a little village.
03:00Anybody can get out of this time of night.
03:01A bit like kids there, hanging about.
03:05So dangerous.
03:06Traffic's light, weather's clear and dry, road conditions are dry.
03:10Got a stinger just being set up ahead.
03:12Can you ask for M-Pass please, if you're up for a while?
03:14With officers chasing after the driver, the passenger slips away.
03:31It's just crashed.
03:33It's not the driver, it seems.
03:36Mixer 2, we've got the driver.
03:38Stand up.
03:40Come back this way.
03:40Don't know if the passenger's still with the subject vehicle.
03:48No injuries as far as I know.
03:51Why have you drove like that?
03:56It's from a van driver.
03:58Right, just this one?
03:59Yeah.
04:00Whose car is it?
04:01No.
04:02I know, you're from Victor 2.
04:04We've got a dog or a drone nearby.
04:07Passengers outstanding from this.
04:10Passengers run off.
04:13Just trying to locate him.
04:16Obviously he's run off for a reason.
04:18And I know we've asked for a drone and we had a little up with M-Pass.
04:21The traffic cops need air support to help search in the dark.
04:27So at the minute, the passenger's still outstanding.
04:29The driver's detained.
04:30He says he's a man driver, so he's disqualified.
04:33But it doesn't account for why the passengers run off.
04:37If he makes a disqualified driver, what have you got to hide?
04:41It's just up there, I think.
04:44Yeah, yeah.
04:49Don't worry.
04:50You all right?
04:51Mark takes charge of the scene.
04:54You saw the lad?
04:54Yeah.
04:55He's not gone that way.
04:56I've come this way with a driver.
04:57He's not gone that way.
04:58The passenger's stood there.
04:59By the time I've come back, he's not here soon.
05:01Any description?
05:03No, we can have a look, but...
05:05Unless we can get...
05:06So he's not gone that way?
05:08Well, Charlie, have you gone and take a car and just see if you can get through there?
05:10Just go and block that bit off?
05:11Because if the helicopter will come, then at least we can say we've got some containment on.
05:16Sam.
05:16Yes, mate, which will account for why he's run off, then.
05:25I'll ring Finn, mate, because I'm wanting this helicopter to lift.
05:29Obviously, if he's run off with a gun, mate.
05:32I'm all right explaining that to the Finn to jump his rationale to get the helicopter ASAP.
05:37Intel reveals the passenger may be armed, so force control helps Mark assess the risks.
05:45This passenger's run off down the footpath where the vehicle's crashed.
05:50It's onto the footpath at the side of the railway.
05:53So if there is any spare units, if they can get up towards that industrial estate, just in case anyone pops up there.
05:58The sooner we get our hands on him, the better.
06:03If he's got something he's trying to discard, we want that off him.
06:06So he might just be trying his luck and just hiding somewhere with whatever he's got on him, whether that's drugs, weapons.
06:11But the sooner we get him, the better.
06:13Mark speaks to the driver to try to identify the runaway passenger.
06:17So who is he?
06:19A friend of the car.
06:20What's his name?
06:21I don't know.
06:21His name's Tom.
06:22Come on, man.
06:23Tom.
06:23OK, if you're not willing to help him, mate, you're being recorded, so that's fine, mate.
06:27So if he turns up dead, you know, when people try and blame the police for stuff, you're not willing to help us.
06:32So as long as you're aware, mate, that's on camera.
06:33Because you're not telling us who it is.
06:34I've just told you I have.
06:35No, you haven't.
06:36Tom.
06:36Tom what?
06:37I don't know a second.
06:38All right, Bob.
06:39He's a friend of the car.
06:39All right.
06:40OK.
06:44He's a disqualified driver, claims to be up here to sell his car.
06:48Won't tell us who his passenger is, who's decided to leg it for some reason.
06:52Obviously got something tired, because if you're totally innocent, your mate's just got no license,
06:55you'd just sit there, wouldn't you, and be like, I've done nothing wrong, what are you going to do?
06:58So we're just trying to locate him there.
07:02He's crashed right next to a golf course and some wooded area, so he only has to run 100 metres and could be anywhere,
07:09and we wouldn't see him.
07:10So without that, drone and a dog were struggling, really.
07:14After 30 minutes, there's still no sign of the passenger.
07:18Could be three or four miles away.
07:20He could have run a taxi if he's got a mobile phone.
07:22He might know people around here.
07:24I don't know why he's here, why they've come this way.
07:27So, yeah, it could be anywhere.
07:28What was the update on the drone?
07:32Perfect.
07:32Thank you very much.
07:33While the team wait for a drone...
07:35Oh, I've got a drone coming.
07:36...a dog handler arrives.
07:40Drone's about to go up now.
07:42Hopefully this passenger's just hiding somewhere.
07:45Got a bit lost.
07:46Just run down the first bit he could and then hide him somewhere.
07:50That's the hope.
08:03Oh, we've got him.
08:06Whereabouts, are you sorry?
08:11Just found what we believe to be the passenger hiding just down here, so...
08:15Are you OK?
08:20Have you hurt your head?
08:21Yeah.
08:21Have you done that?
08:22Nick, crash the car then.
08:26Yeah.
08:27Have you got anything on you, mate?
08:28No, I'm not sure.
08:29What do you keep in here?
08:32It's a very empty man bag, or fanny pack, as the Americans call it.
08:36My phone's in my pocket.
08:37My phone's usually in there, that's why.
08:39Oh, right.
08:40OK.
08:42The battery's dead, Nick.
08:43You're joking?
08:44I know.
08:44Unfortunate, isn't it?
08:45I know, wounded, eh?
08:47What's the chances of that?
08:48I know.
08:48Could have run a taxi, aren't I?
08:49Have you been arrested before?
08:52Yeah, of course I have.
08:53Of course you have.
08:54Your phone just happens to die.
08:56It is dead, look at it.
08:57It's my phone, mate.
08:59You can't turn it off the other week, can you?
09:01Both passenger and driver are convicted drug runners from outside of Derbyshire.
09:06Good work.
09:08A dog handler continues looking for discarded items.
09:11Just trying to figure out where this chap's gone, so we can see if we can find anything.
09:15And we could be looking for something as small as a golf ball, if not smaller.
09:24It'd be nice if it was larger.
09:27Yeah, needle in a haystack.
09:31With no sign of anything hidden, Mark calls off the search.
09:35So, at the minute, we've got two people arrested.
09:38The driver, who crashed his car for dangerous driving, failing to stop, is disqualified from
09:44driving, got no licence and also on suspicion of theft of that motor vehicle.
09:48We've also got the passenger arrested who ran off.
09:50So, yeah, good little job.
09:51Nice to get the driver.
09:54He should get prison time for this.
09:56Not only is he driven, whilst disqualified, he's also driven like an absolute clown.
10:00Coming up...
10:04It's been involved in an RTC.
10:07And he's got a head injury.
10:08...illegal motorists.
10:09Say again.
10:11You're a provisional.
10:12...putting lives at risk.
10:14Any pedestrian in one sort of chance.
10:16The vehicle is off, off, off.
10:18And an uninsured driver...
10:20It's gone straight through the red light.
10:22...goes on the run.
10:24Don't do it!
10:30It's a facial here the other week.
10:42Drink, drive.
10:44PC Chris Wells Jackson is on patrol in Chesterfield.
10:49Everybody told him not to get in the car and drive.
10:53He got in the car and drove.
10:54Killed his mate who was in the bank without a seatbelt.
10:57He was ejected through the very small back window.
10:59Over two and a half thousand people are killed or injured on Derbyshire's roads every year.
11:06Often due to dangerous and illegal drivers.
11:11This is my old beach area.
11:14I like smoking here because you've got some right...
11:16...cracking job.
11:19I'm speaking to you.
11:20I don't know.
11:21I don't know.
11:22I don't know.
11:23I don't know.
11:24I don't know.
11:25I don't know.
11:25I don't know.
11:26male crawling on his hands and knees in a hedge bottom couldn't get up fell flat on his face trying
11:33to open the car door he's since got in but he hasn't yet driven off the vehicle excited stop
11:38check please conservation seven one two one four any standing by an eight four five john to put
11:44me to that please speaking to it thank you an eight four nine as well but that's more um what's
11:51time do the call come in please five minutes ago and the corner i believe is still on the line
11:57from the sounds of it the informant's still got eyes on him so hopefully we can get there before
12:02he leaves the scene minutes later control updates
12:13there's been an rtc just around the corner from where they reported this driver was so it could
12:17be that it's this driver that's left and now we've got two vehicle collision with a car on its roof
12:25five miles ahead of chris a local patrol unit is first on scene
12:34and a limit to mike um come across this vehicle it's been involved in an rtc and it's flipped there
12:42were two vehicles involved and he's got a head injury
12:53hello
12:55okay
12:59an a49 state six there it is the suspect's car and a red mini appear to have collided head-on
13:07so yeah yeah um and then i've come across it as i've been approaching balls but he doesn't smell
13:17a booze no his pupils are very small priority obviously to get medical treatment he has got a
13:26really nasty head injury um but it's potentially gonna have to do a bug procedure at hospital as
13:30when we get there oh yeah are you okay the mini driver's unharmed what's happened i would just
13:40pull so i turned down here yeah and then as i was coming down this red car there yeah he would just
13:48indicate his turn that way so i've slowed down obviously a bit anyway yeah and uh okay
13:54he would come more yeah this side okay another car with a young family aboard narrowly escaped
14:00the collision all right no so was he was he traveling up i know you just told my colleagues
14:04he's coming behind this red skoda behind that police car yeah so he swerved over trying to
14:09dodge him yeah so there's nowhere to go right and his car's just completely flipped over and skid on
14:13there yeah all right one more call then yeah the dead baby there yeah
14:19from what the cop initially said when we turned up was that he doesn't smell a drink but obviously
14:27there's the the report that we've had from the member of the public before and that there's
14:32clearly something untoward with his behavior something really wrong illegal drivers are selfish
14:38they've always got that conscious decision to make whether they get behind that wheel or not
14:43nobody forces them to do it the guy who's injured wants to speak to a cop yeah that's fine
14:47all right so they've got a certain arrogance about them for them to take that risk in the first
14:53place what can i do for you say again you're a provisional the suspect doesn't hold a full driving
15:04license uh a bag all right i won't get an exhibit bag out of my car and a search of the car raises
15:13further suspicions that's a bit of a makeshift crack pipe was uh found within the vehicle
15:23and it's clearly been used so uh what's going to happen is we'll see what the ambulance staff say
15:32when they get here about his welfare and his condition um we'll follow him up to hospital
15:38and should his doctor who will be in charge of his care be happy to do so we'll go to a book
15:44procedure at hospital regarding his fitness to drive to see whether he's uh overly limited for
15:51anything particularly drugs or drink but either way he's driving on the provisional license with
15:56no insurance for it so um there's that bit to deal with and then obviously there's the possible
16:01intoxication with paramedics now on scene chris updates basically we had a call just before this
16:09attack regarding this being being in a car park a bit further down there and he's basically crawled
16:14out of a hedge bot fell flat on his face and then got in the car so we've been traveling to that and
16:18then as we've literally got to where they said initially they said oh this collision's coming
16:22car and it's the same one right if it's all right with you is i'll do a preliminary drug swipe with
16:27him at the roadside and coming that test for coke and cannabis but i would imagine that it's going to have
16:31been coped in that or crystal meth so you can do it now if you want to yeah if that's all right one
16:41one second thank you um i'm just going to do a preliminary drug swipe with you okay because you've
16:48been involved in a collision all right okay do you use any substances at all okay so this uh this takes
16:56up to eight minutes to come back with a result okay it can come back sooner stick your tongue out for me
17:01that's excellent thank you so essentially now i've took your sample i'll time eight minutes
17:06and then i'll keep checking it up to that point obviously if it's clear it's clear
17:10if it comes back over then we'll look at dealing with it are you able to just give me a bit of an
17:15account as to what happened he's saying the reason for the collision he's lost control of the car while
17:20his steering wheel's pulled him out and he's ended up onto the other side of the carriageway
17:25but either way we've got some offenses to deal with so
17:35what the drug swipes telling me at the moment he's that he's not got cannabis or cocaine in
17:40it and obviously no alcohol in him either i think they're going to look at taking him to northern
17:44general just for the trauma had anybody been walking on this pavement then it could have
17:51been a different story any pedestrian in this case wouldn't have stood a chance because it's
17:55just a ton and a half of metal flying towards and at whatever speed
18:06last year in derbyshire there were over one and a half thousand convictions for driving without
18:11insurance we're just coming up on the uh one of the other addresses that we've got for this
18:17disqualified driver and traffic cops like pc matt cork are always on the lookout for illegal drivers
18:24one of our core roles on roads policing unit is keeping the road safe we just want to drink and
18:29drug driving dangerous driving causing serious injury by careless driving be out there be proactive
18:36sort of be in the right place at the right time so at least we know when it starts you know when it
18:40hits cameras somewhere we've got an idea where it might be going back to or where it might be coming
18:46from on the outskirts of derby city center matt's checking up on a disqualified driver yeah got no
18:54seat belt on so action but matt's inquiries will have to wait a lot of in front's got no seat
19:00bar on he's gone past us that's all um so i'll just check the car through and then we'll have a shout
19:04with it mark on this vehicle linked drugs uh i'll just see if you can run panama k3 now to be out
19:10yeah received it may well be that this the gentleman driving this car in front with no seat belt on is
19:16actually a disqualified driver we're about to find out
19:27hello paul i'm about to pull you over mate but i didn't want to pull you out in the middle of it
19:31what do you want to see though hey well nothing currently but tell me what the issue is though
19:36is it your car for start off well clearly it is isn't it well i don't know is it just because
19:40you're driving it i want to see your driving license for one what do you want to see me
19:46right listen let's chill have you got some idea give me a reason why you have pulled me because
19:52you're using a vehicle on the road but why for what reason what have i done to make you think that i
19:59broke the law in anyway wait wait wait look look i'm i ain't gonna get into it i can't be honest
20:03no and that's fine mate so let's yeah let's get down to it look my internet banking so clearly it's me
20:09isn't it yeah okay okay have you got uh a photo of your driving license right license on me no mate
20:18you want to see that motive and no no driver's check go on you can do that at the same time
20:24sound go on then i've got a driver's check just for you hey two eight if i pass you the
20:28edge of this car can you just check it through please ford focus like i told you my driver's
20:33number now that's all right mate i found your driving license i'm happy you've got a driving
20:36license i'm just checking insurance on it wait wait wait wait wait i'll show you that
20:44excellent right now that's cleared up because i've had to come so bloody close to you to chill you out
20:49and listen to what you're saying when was the last time you used cannabis because either you or i
20:55don't know whether your clothes smell of it or what what's what's ages ago oh probably over the
21:03weekend over the week like what over a week ago or over at weekend over the weekend right essentially
21:08because you're using uh vehicle on road and i can smell cannabis i don't know whether it's because
21:13you've been smoking it in those clothes that you've got in your passenger seat i don't know if people
21:17have been smoking it in the car but because you smell it i suspect you may still well be under the
21:20influence of it you've obviously said you used it at the weekend so i'm going to make a requirement
21:26of you to provide me with a sample of saliva for analysis all right i have to warn you that failed
21:29to do so may render your life with prosecution what happens if i feel what happens if you fail
21:34that if the sample comes back positive we go to custody and then what happens and then we look at
21:38getting a sample of blood from you and then ultimately that sample of blood's taken off to a lab
21:43it's tested and if it comes back over um then it's it's dealt with right come and have a seat with me mate
21:49i'll knock that off save your fuel nice one geez just have a seat in there for us you
22:00oh sound right i'll come around and sort this out here
22:04uh just do drugs like this gent and we'll see where we're at now
22:07don't vape in here dude yeah yeah honestly have you ever done one of these before if i do fail it
22:21though please can we just get this at the station done asap yeah yeah i've got listen i've got no
22:25intention of keeping you any longer than absolutely necessary because i've got other jobs to do as well
22:29roll your tongue around your mouth mate get a nice bit of just plenty of saliva on your tongue and then
22:33lean forward and stick your tongue out as far as you can for me so i ain't got to stick this into
22:37your mouth a little bit keep sticking there you go open your mouth a bit there you do that's the one
22:45right if that comes back clear you're a free man i'm happy with insurance i'm happy with mot i'm
22:51happy you got a license yeah the only thing i do need to speak to you about which is the first reason
22:58that i was going to speak to you what were you missing you know seat bulb yeah i knew it i know
23:02i knew that white t-shirt i'm an idiot there's no more obvious than wearing a white white t-shirt
23:08and i didn't indicate no back belt and i didn't indicate i've seen it already i know surprisingly
23:13there doesn't seem to be a result for the uh cannabis mate
23:19but it's come back as positive for cocaine
23:21right so at 1732 you're under arrest on suspicion of driving that motor vehicle on a road walks over
23:30its specified limit so you don't have to say anything but it may only defense if you don't
23:34mention one question something which later a line in court anything you do say may be given
23:37an evidence all right it's not like i'm taking drugs while i'm driving it's a joke
23:42no i can understand it if i'm taking the piss out the law driving around off my head or smoking weed
23:48take me to the station man i can't be honest with it the impact of drug driving um obviously depending
23:54on what substance uh that individual is using uh is massive right i'll come get you out mate it can
24:01cause overconfidence it can cause uh drowsiness poor distance judgment there's 101 different ways
24:08that it can affect your ability to drive uh negatively you don't even leave i do mate cross them over
24:14nice and comfortable mate nice one and this one dude can i have my birthday yeah follow me youth
24:22the man will now undergo a blood test at a police station have a seat youth
24:35hopefully we'll look to have that result back to us by the time uh that gent answers his uh
24:41bail date at which point when he comes back we'll have a result and uh he'll either be charged with
24:47an offense or there'll be no further action uh in relation to it if if we're unable to say that his
24:52blood's over the specified limit it's a lesson learned for him coming up stand by stand by stand by
25:00reckless and illegal drivers
25:08oh he's disqualified banned and over the limit as soon as he's got in the back of the car i can smell
25:14the alcohol on him but it's disqual as well
25:16nottinghamshire officers
25:38near derby police are searching the m1 for a driver who's failed to stop for nottinghamshire officers
25:46do you think you're doing a loop so we aren't sure where it's at the main minute
25:52no no no why shouldn't
25:56done a bit of a loss on it uh they're just doing a search around i think one of their cars has gone
26:01south on the motorway another one's gone north um just a bit of case of just spreading yourselves and
26:07see if someone can just come across it or it's another camera traffic cop jim payne is close by
26:16contact contact subject vehicle m1 north now lane 303
26:22two miles away other units spot the car heading towards jim
26:29lane three speed one zero zero
26:33i can try and get a stinger on the exit slip if it comes off here
26:36yes
26:38yes
26:39yes yes uh we've got an outside indication and i think it's going to be uh lane two of two
26:44uh
26:50uh
26:54try and find somewhere safe that's the only thing with this
26:58uh
27:10We're now at 110, lane 303.
27:18On the Foxtrot 33, we're talking out at 140, vehicles in lane 404 in the distance.
27:27Standby, standby, standby.
27:31The vehicle is off, off, off, and it's going to be the next vehicle at the R-Lane.
27:37Yeah, it's a failure on the stinging of a freeze.
27:47Listen forward, it's gone straight through the red light.
27:51Can't believe that.
27:57The Audi heads back onto the motorway.
28:00Traffic cop Mark White takes up the pursuit.
28:09I'm 72, we're trying to get his way to 30.
28:12Heavy braking, standby, shoot.
28:16Off, off, off.
28:18Next one with you, Stuart.
28:20Yes, yes.
28:22A second stinger is set on the next slip road.
28:26So, first, all vehicles don't go towards Buckminster, Buckminster's second exit.
28:39It's gone off-road.
28:40I can't wait.
28:41He's trying to play catch him again.
28:43He can come up in there, mate.
28:45As Mark and other officers chase after the driver, Jim races to catch up.
29:06I'm just taking it to you on, Glenn.
29:07Yeah, we've got one paddle felt the train.
29:10Got him.
29:11That's the old beach.
29:12All I've seen is the driver, the house.
29:13I don't think there's anyone else in it.
29:14.
29:15I don't see anyone, any unit, Dr. Tinley, if you can just add the weather.
29:28Is it banned or wanted or what, then?
29:29Banned or wanted or what, there's got to be something behind it. Just, just no license.
29:36You can't believe you're going to drive like that, no seat belt, just for no license and insurance.
29:42Good job in the end, isn't it? The suspect's Audi hit speeds of over 140 miles per hour.
29:50You were probably cating it down there, weren't you? Yeah. It was absolutely flying, wasn't it?
29:54Drove like an idiot, didn't he? Drove like an absolute idiot. All for what? All just because
30:01you're disqualified from driving. If he'd have just stopped inside that road, car would have been
30:05taken off him, you know. It'd have been reported and that would have been the end of it. Now he's
30:10going to spend the night in custody and then you're going to have to go to court for dangerous driving,
30:14and I think the last hit was basically him in his car doing his test so far. Yes.
30:44Controls alerting PC Dave Shaw about an illegal driver on his patch.
30:49So I anticipate he'll be coming back. But I'll get it on. Once I've got details,
30:58I'll send you details over, mate, so you know what you're looking for.
31:01Yeah, roger mate, yeah. He's got help plates on, he's driven there with help plates on,
31:05so he clearly thinks he's legal to drive. We're out in Derby at the moment. We've just had some
31:12information regarding a possible provisional license holder who's been for a driving test,
31:18but failed and then driven off unaccompanied on their own. It's a local vehicle, so we're just
31:25going to go and see if they come home, see if they turn up and see what's going off with it.
31:29If you haven't passed a driving test, then you have not reached the standard required to operate a
31:35vehicle on a public highway, and you are therefore a risk. Driven through a city centre, it's driven
31:41up a dual carriageway, and my Mazda's not had an accident, if I'm honest with you.
31:44We're looking for a red Mazda. It should be fairly easy to spot.
31:54We've got an image of the vehicle that's just come through from our intelligence officer,
31:58so you can see there's an L plate on the car. I mean, it's no good putting L plates on if
32:01you're an unskilled driver that's got nobody supervising them. You're a danger to yourself,
32:07and you're a danger to everybody else on the road.
32:09Unskilled drivers cause us a big problem, because they cause completely avoidable,
32:17pointless collisions, because they're not aware of what lane they should be in,
32:21they're not aware of what to do at roundabouts, and at the end of the day,
32:25you know, it's just to have to go and sort all this mess out.
32:30I've just had some information that the chap that I'm sat waiting for is now on his return journey,
32:38hopefully back towards his home address. Let's see what happens.
32:46Bingo.
32:49Just seen it. Just caught the back end of it. There it is, and then we're into a car park.
32:58Tangle 1-5, I've got that Mazda.
33:07Hello there, sir. Stay in the vehicle for me. Just take your key from you. Thank you. The reason I'm
33:15doing that is because I've got some information that you've failed your driving test and that you
33:18shouldn't be driving. Is that correct? Yeah, right, mate. So, do you have your driving licence with you?
33:23A professional. A provisional. Do you have that with you, sir? If I can have that off you, please.
33:27What's going to be happening is, I'm going to be relieving you of your vehicle. So, just for now,
33:31I'd just like you to have a seat in the back of the police vehicle for me, please.
33:34Just have a seat in there, sir. Just there.
33:41So, you've been and done your driving test today. Yes. And you've failed. Yes, I've failed.
33:45What did you fail on? Distance. Distance. So, in other words, driving too close to the vehicles
33:53that are in front of you. Yes. I can't understand why you've made the decision to drive on your own,
34:01knowing that by your own admission you can't drive. You're a risk to yourself and everybody else on the
34:06road, yet you've chosen to ignore all of that. And I just wondered what kind of thought process that
34:12you went through to tell yourself that that was a good idea and that that was acceptable? No.
34:18It's not, is it? No, no. No. And I think you realise that now, don't you? Yeah, I know.
34:22You do need to have a little bit of responsibility. Sure. So, if you have a provisional license,
34:27as you do, you can drive your vehicle without plates on, but you must have some supervision.
34:32You must have somebody sat at the side of you who has a full driving license and has done
34:37for a minimum of three years. Does that make sense? Yes. Did you know that? Yes, I know.
34:41Yeah. Have you had any lessons? Yes, in Derby. You've had some lessons in Derby. In Derby.
34:49How many lessons have you had? Eight. Eight? Eight to ten, yeah. If you start doing silly things
34:58like this and it becomes a big problem, you end up being disqualified from driving, then you can't
35:02get insurance moving forward and there'll be somebody like me waiting for you to take your car off you.
35:07So, what's the next step? You surrender your license to have three points endorsed and you pay the fine.
35:15That's the end of the matter. Or you can elect to go to court and have the matter heard by the magistrates.
35:20Okay? That's your decision. It's not the decision I'd be taking, if I'm honest, but that's up to you. You have that right.
35:27So, for now, you just put that in your pocket and forget about it and you wait for the letter to come in the post.
35:32He realised he'd done wrong and he shouldn't have done it. And he seemed to listen to everything that was said to him.
35:38So, I'd like to think that he will be more careful in the future in his choices.
35:42Go ahead and empty your vehicle of any belongings that you're going to need for the next day or two until you get a car back.
35:46All right. And then you're free to go.
35:49I genuinely think that he's quite all set with himself.
35:53It's not just about taking the car off him though and reducing the risk to everybody else.
35:55It's about educating him and hopefully making him realise that what he's done will be minor in some people's eyes.
36:00It can turn out to be quite a major thing.
36:03As a provisional license holder, you can accrue up to six points before you have that license taken off you.
36:08This is going to get him three and so he hasn't got a lot of room to play with.
36:13If he commits a speeding offence or he goes through a red traffic light, whether he's been supervised or not,
36:18and he gets another three, then it will be revoked from him.
36:23It beggars belief really, people shouldn't be risking points on the licenses and fines because
36:27if he gets another three, the lessons that he's all had, the car that he's bought,
36:32insurance that he's paying for it, is all going to be for nothing because it's going to have gone.
36:35But then you have to buy a car, insure it, tax it, MOT it.
36:40It's one less risk that we've got on the roads today and surely we'll have to go off and find the next one.
36:45Coming up...
36:47Oh, he's disqualified.
36:49Banned and intoxicated...
36:52All right, he's blown 65, so he's nearly doubled a limit.
36:54..an illegal driver is taken off the road.
36:57Just put your hand behind your back, please. Just stay nice and relaxed.
37:00Just dangerous individuals and they're not safe to be on a public highway.
37:05I reckon I can get my teeth into a nice greasy bacon cob with brown sauce in it.
37:25No, I'm making myself even more hungry now, I'm saying that.
37:30It's the start of PC Dave Shaw's day shift.
37:33Yeah, red sauce for sausages, brown sauce for bacon.
37:37That's my theory on it.
37:39Well, we get tasked on the race policing team very regularly to go out and look for particular vehicles,
37:46vehicles that are high risk, vehicles that pose a threat.
37:50Oh, he's disqualified.
37:57This bloke here is disqualified from driving.
37:59We have many different vehicles going through our heads, many different number plates to look at.
38:04You find yourself subconsciously looking at them plates.
38:15What are you doing?
38:16Yeah.
38:16Come here.
38:18Come here.
38:18You are disqualified from driving. You're being detained at the moment.
38:23Give me your other hand.
38:26Give me your other hand.
38:27Give me your other hand.
38:29Just relax and stay calm. You're being detained at the moment.
38:32Okay.
38:34Do you have any reason for detaining me?
38:35Yes, he's disqualified from driving and he shouldn't be driving.
38:38You come with me.
38:39It makes me feel extremely irritated that they carry on choosing to ignore the law.
38:43Just have a seat in here, sir, for me, please.
38:45Get in.
38:45No, no, no, get in.
38:46I'm giving you the card.
38:47Sorry?
38:48No, I've got your key.
38:52Jump in the car, sir, please.
38:58And ask Tango 1-5.
39:01We've just come across a disqualified driver.
39:03Right then, sir.
39:05Thank you for your cooperation.
39:07Have you had any alcohol recently?
39:10Yesterday.
39:11Okay, I believe that I can smell intoxicants on your breath.
39:14And as you've committed a moving traffic offence,
39:17I'm going to require a sample of breath off you for a roadside breath test.
39:20Okay.
39:21What I need you to do is place a seal around the mouthpiece with your lips like this.
39:28Keep blowing until I tell you to stop.
39:30Do you understand?
39:33Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
39:35That's great.
39:40Right, you've provided a positive sample of breath.
39:43All right.
39:44The limit is 35.
39:45You've provided a reading of 65.
39:47Okay, you're nearly twice.
39:48I told you yesterday.
39:49Yesterday, you did.
39:49Yes, you did.
39:50You're twice the drink drive limit.
39:52Okay, so as it stands at the moment, you're under arrest for driving a motor vehicle on the road,
39:56while serving the prescribed limit, and for driving a motor vehicle whilst disqualified.
40:00You don't have to say anything, mainly defence.
40:01You don't have to mention my questions.
40:03Some to which ladies are allowed in court.
40:05Anything that you do say, may be given evidence, okay?
40:08I know I've got adult mail under arrest for driver whilst disqualified and excess elk.
40:13I could do with a local unit, please, just to come and give me some assistance with transport to custody.
40:19I think people do it because they either don't think they're going to get caught, or they just don't care.
40:26They're ignorant to the fact that they're disqualified, and they're just going to carry on doing whatever they want, regardless.
40:31All right, he's blown 65, so he's nearly double the limit.
40:34Can you just step out for me, sir, please?
40:36He's disqualified as well.
40:37Just put your hand behind your back, please, just stay nice and relaxed.
40:40Priority at the moment is getting him down to the local custody suite, where we'll get an evidential breath sample.
40:46What does he say?
40:52You've got nothing to do with this.
40:54You need to take the belongings and go away, okay?
40:57I've been perfectly polite with you and perfectly reasonable, but now you're wasting my time.
41:01You need to get yourself gone.
41:05Go ahead.
41:05I've just emailed you his driver summary.
41:18This is 16 pages of it.
41:20Driving, do care and attention.
41:22Failed to stop after an accident.
41:25Failed to give ID.
41:26We've got 18 points.
41:28The disc wall for totting up.
41:31Fair enough, yeah.
41:32Thanks, mate.
41:33Thanks a lot.
41:33It's mocking the system.
41:35It's mocking the court system.
41:36It's mocking the police and what we do.
41:38We take vehicles off people and disqualify people because they're dangerous individuals
41:43and they're not safe to be on the public highway.
41:47Just keep your hands nice and relaxed.
41:50More than 700,000 illegal drivers are thought to be on Britain's roads.
41:55There's got to come a point where if somebody continually commits offences,
41:58somebody somewhere has got to say, we need to do something about this person
42:02and we need to lock them up because somebody's going to get killed.
42:06I'll come back and see you in a couple of hours.
42:08Get some sleep.
42:09It'll go a lot quicker for you.
42:10Yeah.
42:11All right, my friend.
42:12In this episode, the driver who crashed into a lamppost following a high-speed pursuit
42:22was sent to prison for two months and disqualified from holding a licence for 18 months.
42:32Why have you drove like that?
42:34It's from a blind driver.
42:35His passenger who fled the scene was released without charge.
42:43Two vehicles involved.
42:44And he's got a head injury.
42:45The man whose Corsa collided with a Mini.
42:48Are you OK?
42:49Was charged with driving without due care and attention.
42:52You're provisional.
42:53No insurance and no licence.
42:56One more call then and there's not a dead baby there.
42:58He was fined £258 and six points were added to his licence.
43:03The vehicle is off, off, off.
43:08It's gone straight through the red light.
43:10The suspect the police arrested for failing to stop, dangerous driving and driving whilst
43:15disqualified after a high-speed pursuit down the motorway.
43:22Was released without charge due to police being unable to prove that he was the driver.
43:28You can't believe you're going to drive like that.
43:31No seatbelt, just for no license and insure.
43:34Police are awaiting the results of a blood test for the man caught without a seatbelt.
43:39Wait, is it your car for start off?
43:40Well, clearly it is, isn't it?
43:41Well, I don't know, is it?
43:42Who also failed a roadside drugs test.
43:45It's come back as positive for cocaine.
43:49Take me to the station, mate.
43:50I can't be arsed.
43:50If found to be over the limit.
43:52It's fine mate.
43:52Have a seat, you.
43:53He faces a minimum one-year driving ban.
43:59I've got some information that you've failed your driving test and that you shouldn't be driving.
44:02Is that correct?
44:03Yeah, right, right.
44:04The man who drove to and from a failed driving test.
44:07What did you fail on?
44:08Distance.
44:09Distance.
44:10Don't keep doing the proper distance.
44:12Had three points added to his provisional license.
44:15Give me your other hand.
44:16Give me your other hand.
44:18Just relax.
44:20And the banned motorist who blew almost twice over the drink drive limit.
44:24Okay, so as it sounds at the moment you're under arrest.
44:26Was disqualified for a further two years.
44:29He was also fined 200 pounds and has been fitted with a tag.
44:33Just stay nice and relaxed.
45:03I'll be right back.
45:09I'll be right back.
45:20Let me explain it.
45:21I'll be right back.
45:21Wait.
45:21I'll be right back.
45:23Bye.
45:24Goodbye.
45:24Bye.
