00:00Federal immigration raids are now underway across New Orleans, part of the Trump administration's
00:07latest crackdown, and they're already creating scenes of tension and fear across the city.
00:13On Wednesday, Border Patrol agents fanned out across Kenner, a suburb just west of the city,
00:18driving through neighborhoods, parking lots, even stopping a man mowing a lawn.
00:22The administration says it's targeting immigrants accused of violent crimes, including home invasion,
00:27armed robbery, and rape, and blames local sanctuary-style policies for letting some
00:32suspects go. But the tactics are sparking fear. In one neighborhood, a man stood on his roof
00:38for more than an hour as agents surrounded his home, only coming down after the convoy pulled away.
00:44The operation is also rolling out in Minneapolis, just hours after President Trump launched into a
00:50tirade against Somali immigrants and called Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, quote, garbage. He
00:56noted that the Somali community is under investigation in Minnesota, with allegations
01:00of massive fraud and stealing of state money. Again, Wednesday afternoon, the president doubled
01:05down, telling reporters in the Oval Office that Somali immigrants have destroyed our country.
01:11He also took another swipe at Omar, who came to this country as a Somali refugee while in her teens.
01:16The Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain,
01:23complain, complain. You have her. She's always talking about the constitution provides me with
01:29go back to your own country and figure out your constitution.
01:34I mean, our president's obsession with me and the Somali community really is creepy and healthy.
01:44And we are not and I am not someone to be intimidated and we are not going to be
01:50scapegoated. We are here. We are here to stay.
01:54The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is home to the largest Somali community in the country,
01:59about 84,000 people. DHS says it could make 5,000 arrests or more in this surge.
02:05Some in the Somali community are speaking out, trying to reassure neighbors who say they're
02:10terrified. I'm not scared, you know. There's nothing to be scared of, you know. There's a
02:15constitution in this country and we have rights and every single one of us has rights and we're
02:23not scared. But we have some Somali communities that are very scared.
02:29people you're in the world and we're not scared.
02:31People who are basically getting you told of the constitution to the sizable
02:32people, themselves, or about 65,000. It's not just an excess.
02:33There's ingenuity etc. It's never been cancelled for everything.
02:45You know, you're not afraid of that.
02:47When you're lucky that it's the future of the country, it's which is doing
02:50part of your husband's job.
02:55You know, none of this big news happening is you when again, and I'm 17 abroad.
