00:00She thought I was the vibrant splash of color on the gray canvas of our writing staff.
00:05I mean, whoosh!
00:07Just as Mindy Kaling's film Late Night gets ready to head into theaters this summer,
00:11the actress and writer is bringing her childhood to life with a new series at Netflix.
00:15The streaming giant has handed out a straight-to-series order for a half-hour coming-of-age
00:19comedy series based on the actress, writer and producer's childhood.
00:23The Untitled Comedy, which has received an order for 10 episodes, explores the complicated
00:27life of a modern-day, first-generation Indian-American teenage girl.
00:31Kaling created the series and will serve as a writer, executive producer and showrunner,
00:35alongside Lang Fisher, with whom she worked on the Fox-turned-Hulu comedy The Mindy Project.
00:40I would love to get a cup of coffee with you.

00:45That's candy.
00:46It's unclear if Kaling will have any sort of on-screen role in the Netflix series,
00:49which marks the last sale for Kaling under her Universal Television overall deal.
00:53It was in the works before she decamped from her longtime home at Universal TV,
00:57for a massive six-year, mid-eight-figure pact with Warner Bros. TV.
01:01The Emmy-nominated writer also saw Amazon shell out $13 million for rights to her Emma Thompson-led
01:07Sundance feature, Late Night.
01:09Kaling wrote the movie and stars.
01:10You love me.
01:11No, I didn't say that.
01:13I, no.
01:13I mean, not in those words, but you...
01:15No, I didn't say it in any of those words.
