00:00In 2014, a man named Ethan and his wife, Danny, were spending a weekend together on Vancouver Island, which they had done many times before.
00:12The couple has a lot of experience on the island and just camping in general.
00:16Vancouver Island provides an optimal camping setting because of its mix of scenic beaches and dense forest.
00:22The couple had many successful camping trips on the island, until something truly terrifying happened to them on their final outing on the island.
00:30Ethan and Danny were far from any roads or civilization, enjoying the solitude.
00:35They set up camp on a beach a good distance from anywhere, and kept a fire going.
00:39To get to the trail leaving the beach was a kilometer along the beach and two kilometers to the road through the forest.
00:45The couple had met another camper named Leon from New Zealand, who they ran into earlier that day on the beach.
00:51Leon was planning on sleeping in his van, which he parked back up on the road.
00:55The couple invited him down to the beach for a fire, and the three shared a bottle of wine talking amongst themselves around the fire.
01:02This is where things started to get a little creepy.
01:05The sun was starting to go down by this point, and the trio kept hearing what sounded like female voices from behind them in the bushes dividing the beach from the forest.
01:12It wasn't too dark out yet though, so it was still possible that they were just other hikers or campers nearby, or even a group who anchored offshore and the sound was just bouncing in a weird way.
01:23All three of them could agree that they were hearing female voices though.
01:27On that note, it was getting late and a little dark, so Leon said goodbye, and set out to hike back to his car before it was too dark.
01:34Ethan and Danny stayed by their campsite and stoked the fire, because Danny was starting to get creeped out by the voices, which continued on into the darkness.
01:42It sounded like two female voices speaking, but whatever that was being said was unintelligible.
01:47It sounded to the couple like the voices were not far beyond the treeline now.
01:52They stayed up very late tending to the fire, and only when the voices had finally stopped, they decided to put out the fire and go to sleep in the tents.
02:00Before doing so, the two had scanned the cove with a flashlight several times looking for boats that could have been the source of the talking, but there was nothing in sight.
02:08It was around 3am when they laid down finally, ready to catch some shut-eye.
02:13But about 15 minutes after they laid down, Ethan and Danny heard footsteps in the area around their campsite, over by where the fire was.
02:21They came from the direction of the bushes toward the inland behind them, a direction that was not traversable by people.
02:27The couple lay there, hoping it was just a bear or any animal, because the only bears on the island are black bears, which usually are very timid around people.
02:36The footsteps went from the fire, then over to the tent, then back into the woods.
02:40Five minutes later, the footsteps came back again to the fire, and now, clear as day, there were two female voices talking gibberish very loudly.
02:50Their communication was not resembling any languages known to Ethan or Danny, and they seemed to be talking over each other,
02:56having what could barely be considered to be a conversation at full volume in the dead of night very far away from civilization,
03:02without using lights to navigate through the dense brush, relatively quietly in a direction that seemed impossible to traverse on foot.
03:09The two voices moved from the fire pit area over to the tent, still talking at a loud volume.
03:15They stood over the tent talking for a few seconds, then went completely dead as night, silent.
03:20They went back into the woods to never be seen or heard again.
03:24Ethan and Danny lay there completely frozen and afraid for a long time.
03:27They woke up around 11 a.m. the next day because of how late they fell asleep.
03:32They packed up first thing and never returned.
03:35The couple probably made the best decision to remain quiet in the tent,
03:38not drawing attention to themselves from whoever or whatever was outside the tent.
03:42The following pictures you're about to see were taken by hikers Kylie Cashwell and John Stone,
03:53who both live in Eagle Mountain, Utah, a small town south of Salt Lake City.
03:58For the past few years, they had been exploring forests in search of interesting things,
04:03and one day they found it.
04:05One day Kylie was hiking in Cedar Fort just five miles south of Salt Lake City.
04:09While hiking, she found large amounts of animal bones and piles of junk people had dumped.
04:15But things started to get strange when she started coming across strange symbols and animal parts
04:19scattered throughout the forest, some of them in weird formations.
04:23On September 15th, she decided to bring her friend Josh along with her
04:27to show him in person the unusual things she was finding.
04:30This time, the two came across something even more disturbing.
04:34On the trail, there was a severed deer head and a pentagram surrounded by deer legs,
04:38which were not there the first time Kylie walked the trail.
04:41The sun was going down, and after getting their pictures,
04:45they agreed it was time to head back to the car.
04:47But the more they walked, they realized they didn't recognize the path they were on.
04:51So the two start looking around for anything that could refresh their memory of where they were.
04:55But as it got dark out, the two accepted that they were lost.
04:59With nothing but their phone flashlights to navigate,
05:02they started getting the feeling they were being watched.
05:04As they picked up their pace, the two started to hear the trees and bushes moving at least 20 feet to their right,
05:10made more concerning by the fact that there was no wind that night.
05:14The two started to panic and hurried onto a trail they found,
05:17hoping it would take them back to Kylie's car.
05:19Just when things couldn't seem to get any worse,
05:22Kylie and Josh heard his scream so deep and horrific
05:24that it sounded neither human nor animal.
05:27The two sprinted down the trail,
05:30Kylie making a conscious effort not to look back,
05:33but Josh did.
05:34And Josh claimed to see a large black figure on the trail behind them,
05:37too big to be a human.
05:39The two made it to the car by some stroke of luck,
05:41losing whatever was chasing them.
05:43So they left the forest and went straight home.
05:46Upon doing research,
05:48Kylie found documents of common cult practices reported in those woods,
05:52as well as numerous murders and disappearances that happened in the area throughout the years.
05:57Like Ethan and Danny in the first story,
05:59Kylie has not returned since.
06:05Deep in the woods in northern Germany,
06:07two friends were hiking in an area formerly territory of the German Democratic Republic,
06:11when they came across these strange periscope-like pipes protruding from the ground.
06:17Feeling either brave or foolish,
06:19they decided to investigate further.
06:21They discovered a doorway hidden behind several bushes,
06:24covered by a large wooden lid,
06:27what they found hidden beneath the ground is a pretty disturbing piece of history.
06:31The doorway led to a huge abandoned army bunker.
06:34There were several tunnels leading off in different directions,
06:37which intersected a long central corridor.
06:40There were so many different directions to go,
06:42that exploring the place felt like going through a maze to the two friends.
06:46They tried not to stray far away from each other in fear of getting lost.
06:50That's how big the place was.
06:51As they ventured deeper into the structure,
06:54they came across German writing on the wall,
06:56which translated to help.
06:59Curiosity still got the better of them,
07:01and they continued deeper into the bunker.
07:03And as they did,
07:04the structure became more and more decayed.
07:07More writings were found on the walls,
07:09this time reading,
07:10Some of the rooms and corridors were flooded and smelt like sewage.
07:16They made their way into a very large room with a strange machine in the center.
07:20It's very possible the previous occupants had fled the bunker in a hurry,
07:24as there was a single shoe still stuck in the sludge on the floor.
07:28Why wouldn't someone have time to grab one shoe unless they were in a hurry?
07:31The structure was believed to be an old military bunker,
07:35possibly used for shelter by the Nazis during World War II.
07:39But why did the soldiers seemingly leave in such a hurry?
07:42And whether they were the ones who had written the warning messages on the walls is unknown.
07:46In this last story, for the person's safety,
07:53I'll refer to him as just Bill.
07:55Bill is an avid hiker who in 2016 was visiting his brother upstate New York near Downsville.
08:02Bill's brother owns a small house and a barn up there,
08:05and from time to time Bill and other family members would go up to visit.
08:08This was in the late fall,
08:10and so the foliage was already mostly orange,
08:13and more than half of the leaves had fallen off the trees.
08:16Bill was hiking a narrow trail which was not far from his brother's place.
08:20This trail is in the middle of a very rural area,
08:23and it connects from the occasional property to property.
08:26So when Bill stumbled across a duffel bag on the ground in the middle of the woods,
08:30it was a surprise.
08:32The duffel bag looked like it was relatively new.
08:35It didn't look dirty as if it had been sitting in the woods for an extended period of time.
08:39There was a foul odor emanating from the bag, however,
08:42like something rotting inside.
08:44Bill assumed the worst.
08:46But he knew he had to open the bag to see what's inside,
08:49in case it actually could have been a person.
08:51He was building up the courage to open the zipper to the bag,
08:54but before he could,
08:56he heard footsteps approaching from off the trail,
08:58and a voice saying,
08:59That's mine.
09:00Please don't touch it.
09:01A large man in a dirty jacket and jeans was quickly approaching from the woods,
09:05and grabbed the duffel bag off the ground.
09:07The two exchanged looks for a moment.
09:09Bill told the man he assumed the bag was forgotten by someone,
09:12and the man told him he was storing his kill from his hunt in the bag.
09:16Even though Bill isn't a hunter,
09:18he knew it's standard to use a cooler for storing fresh kill,
09:21not a duffel bag of all things.
09:23This also wouldn't explain the foul smell so soon,
09:26as usually dead bodies only start to smell after a few days,
09:30not right after death.
09:32So he apologized and continued walking down the trail,
09:35with a little more speed in his step.
09:37It's likely the man noticed Bill's nervousness,
09:40because he heard the duffel bag get dropped on the floor as he was walking away,
09:44but as he looked back,
09:45he didn't see the man anymore.
09:47Bill nervously continued along the trail,
09:50taking out his phone to try to call his brother for an emergency pickup by the road,
09:54but he didn't have any reception in the woods.
09:56All he could do was press forward and avoid crossing paths with that man again,
10:01but as he continued on,
10:02he kept hearing leaves crunching from not far behind him,
10:05and anytime he'd look back,
10:07the coast seemed clear.
10:08But eventually,
10:10his fear that he was being followed became real.
10:13He saw that man following him in the distance in a stalkerish manner,
10:16hiding behind a tree.
10:18Without thinking,
10:19Bill started to run as fast as he could down the trail.
10:23He knew he was being followed without even looking back,
10:25because he could hear the leaves being crushed from not too far behind him.
10:28Bill came to an abandoned-looking property with overgrown grass,
10:32and having grown too winded to continue running,
10:35he attempted entry to the old house through the back door,
10:37and was able to get inside.
10:39Bill hid under a cot in the first bedroom he found,
10:42and he heard the back door open again,
10:44followed by heavy footsteps moving in a hurry.
10:47They went from room to room,
10:48and Bill could hear the man's heavy breathing from also being out of breath.
10:52The man's footsteps came into the bedroom just for a second,
10:55and left right after.
10:56He didn't look under either of the two cots.
10:59Bill heard the back door to the house open and slam shut again,
11:02but he laid under the cot for another half an hour,
11:05not taking any risks.
11:07He only got up when he realized it would be dark soon,
11:09and he needed to get to a road to call for help.
11:12He proceeded to leave the house,
11:13and run down the dirt trail by the house
11:15that was most likely once used as a driveway,
11:17which led him to a road.
11:19From here, he eventually hitched a ride with a passing car,
11:22who gave Bill a lift back to his brother's house,
11:24where Bill would call the local police department
11:26and report his encounter.
11:28Given the severity of the case,
11:30police would show up to the house
11:31to get a more detailed description of the man's face,
11:33the location it happened,
11:35and other information.
11:36Though it was never technically confirmed
11:38what was in that duffel bag,
11:40the rotting smell would already be clue enough.
11:42But the fact that the man so intently chased after Bill
11:45shows that he was hiding something
11:47that he didn't want any witnesses for,
11:49most likely dumping a dead body.
