00:00As we continue to rely more and more on technology, it's important to be aware it's also being used to harm women and girls in new and alarming ways.
00:11Imagine receiving a message from a stranger that contained chillingly accurate details about your daily routine,
00:19or consider the shock of discovering that your personal footage had been digitally altered into explicit content and splashed across the internet.
00:30Unfortunately, these are real cases.
00:34We want to start a conversation about online abuse and how police can help.
00:39Crimes such as sexual harassment, stalking, defamation and impersonation are increasing.
00:48Technology has created new forms of abuse via video and image-based abuse, including deepfakes, doxing, hacking, cyberbullying,
01:00and online grooming.
01:02What starts as online abuse causing mental anguish can spiral and escalate into physical danger that extends beyond phones and computer screens,
01:12making it impossible for many women to feel safe at home, work or in public spaces.
01:17If you suspect you or someone you know is suffering from technology-enabled abuse,
01:25you can take action by collecting the evidence you have and reporting the matter to police or online at reportcyber.gov.au.
