00:00Russia and the United States have failed to agree on a possible peace deal for Ukraine
00:05after five hours of talks in Moscow between President Vladimir Putin
00:09and envoys sent by US President Donald Trump.
00:12Putin's foreign policy advisor, Yuri Ushakov, described the talks as constructive
00:17but no middle ground was found and that substantial work still lies ahead.
00:23He confirmed that Putin rejected several US proposals,
00:26saying some ideas might be workable with further study
00:30while others remain impossible for Moscow to accept.
00:34Ushakov added that there are no plans for a direct meeting between Putin and Trump for now
00:39though messages have been exchanged between the two leaders.
00:43The discussions at the Kremlin attended by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner
00:47covered a wide range of issues including territorial questions.
00:51That includes Russia's claim to the entire Donbass region,
00:54large parts of which remain under Ukrainian control
00:58and are internationally recognised as Ukrainian territory.

01:03are trying to resolve an extremely complex conflict marked by heavy casualties.
01:09He has repeatedly said ending Europe's deadliest conflict since the Second World War
01:14is a difficult objective and has criticised both Putin and Ukrainian President
01:19Volodymyr Zelensky for slowing progress towards a settlement.
