Donald Trump said his envoys held constructive talks with Vladimir Putin on ending the Ukraine war, as Washington prepares a follow-up meeting with Kyiv’s negotiator to refine its peace proposal.

00:00President Donald Trump says he believes Vladimir Putin is open to ending the war in Ukraine,
00:05even though talks in Moscow brought no breakthrough.
00:08He described the meeting between the U.S. delegation and the Russian leader as productive but not decisive.
00:15U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, held talks with Putin inside the Kremlin.
00:21However, Russian officials later said that parts of the U.S. proposal were unacceptable,
00:27although the proposal includes Ukraine ceding parts of the eastern Donbass region,
00:32it still holds nearly four years after Russia's invasion.
00:36Witkoff and Kushner are expected to meet Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umarov,
00:41in Florida later today as discussions continue.
00:44Meanwhile, in an interview, Putin said Russia intends to take full control of the Donbass region
00:49unless Ukrainian forces withdraw.
00:51Ahead of his visit to New Delhi, he said Russia would either seize the territory through military force
00:58or gain control if Ukraine chooses to withdraw.

01:14has also warned that any attempt by the European Union to seize frozen Russian assets
01:19could be treated by Moscow as grounds for war.
01:22He said that taking assets frozen in Belgium under a proposed reparation loan
01:26will be viewed as a potential casus belli with serious consequences.
01:31On Wednesday, the European Commission proposed that frozen Russian assets,
01:35or funds raised using them as collateral,
01:38should contribute towards a €90 billion package for Ukraine
01:41aimed at supporting its military and vital public services.
