Transcript
00:00Cinemas across Europe are once again shutting down as the continent braces for the second wave of COVID-19.
00:07Italy, which in February became the first country in Europe to close cinemas due to the coronavirus pandemic,
00:12had reopened cinemas in June, but the country is now set to shut down again starting from Monday, October 26.
00:19The Italian prime minister, responding to a spike in COVID-19 infections,
00:23announced that cinemas, along with live theaters, discos and gaming halls, will be forced to close.
00:28Italy also introduced a new curfew for bars and restaurants, which will have to stop service after 6 p.m.
00:34As COVID-19 cases shoot up across Europe, Spain has also introduced a nationwide curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
00:42In addition, France has extended a 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew in several regions, including Paris.
00:48The measures will also impact cinemas, which will be required to close early.
00:52The U.K. also introduced a curfew last week, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson imposing a forced 10 p.m. closure for pubs, bars and restaurants.
01:00Cinemas, however, will be largely exempted from the rule, since it will only apply to films that start after 10 p.m.,
01:06not for screenings that begin before then and extend after the curfew.
01:10But over in Ireland, theaters have been shut since October 7th and are not expected to restart anytime soon.
