Zahid calls for enhanced regional connectivity at Cyberjaya Summit

Asean member states have been urged to accelerate integration to achieve the region’s goal of becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030.   Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said regional connectivity, linking Asean member states’ research centres, technology clusters, start-up communities and regulatory systems, was a financial necessity. 00:00Ladies and gentlemen, vision alone is never enough.

00:07For ASEAN to truly compete at the frontiers of the global economy,

00:12we must strengthen the connected fabric that binds our region,

00:19the infrastructure of ideas and talent, so with technology.

00:27The next decade will belong to regions that can integrate, not just innovation.

00:34ASEAN's trend is not in 11 separate innovation ecosystems,

00:39but in one interconnected architecture capable of scaling ideas across borders

00:47and transforming all of them into industries.

00:51This is why regional connectivity linking our research centers, technology clusters,

00:59startup communities and regulatory system is no longer a technical ambition,

01:05but an economic imperative.

01:08ASEAN is projected to become the world's largest economy by 2030,

01:14but that trajectory will not be sustained if we accelerate integration.

01:22When our laboratories shed knowledge,

01:25when our digital infrastructure is seamless connected,

01:29when our regulations align,

01:31and when our talents move freely,

01:34we eventually create an ecosystem that multiplies value rather than fragmented.

01:41This is how ASEAN converts innovation into impact.

01:46Our region's competitiveness must no longer be measured only by GDP,

01:51but by our ability to create low carbon, knowledge-intensive and equitable societies.

01:58This is the essence of sustainable competitiveness and the driving ambition of this summit.

02:05As we echoed in Malaysia's engagement at ASEAN KOSTI meeting and ASEAN Innovation Summit,

02:13the path forward lies in deepening cooperation, not competition,

02:18and ensuring innovation serves as the bridge between prosperity and planetary health.

02:24As we begin, let this summit be more than just a meeting of minds.

02:29Let it be a catalyst for action.

02:32Together, let us chart a future where innovation empowers sustainability,

02:39where science drives shared prosperity,

02:42and where ASEAN continues to stand as a model of regional cooperation and global relevance.
