Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he sees “a little bit of optimism” surrounding ongoing peace efforts, pointing to the increasing pace of negotiations and renewed U.S. engagement in diplomatic channels. Speaking at an event during his visit to Dublin on December 2, Zelensky emphasized that Washington appears committed to continuing dialogue aimed at resolving the conflict with Russia.

00:00Please can I ask you to be upstanding and give a warm round of applause to Taoiseach
00:25Micheál Martin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. Thank you so much.
00:31For your bravery and your fortitude in the face.
00:34It is with real great pleasure to introduce now on stage His Excellency Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
00:41Please join us. Thank you so much. Thank you for being here.
00:47Really between us it's very difficult to comment the words of the leader of Russia because he really doesn't want to finish this war.
00:59Because he didn't get all the goals what he wanted at the very beginning of this aggression.
01:04He wanted to destroy us totally, our freedom, our people.
01:09But he really been very surprised. Everybody understands who knows him and who doesn't.
01:15And that he didn't get any real goal what he wanted.
01:21Putin, I mean, now he's thinking how to find new reasons not to finish this war.
01:28And we count on pressure from the United States. And they are people of the world. I think so.
01:33They are a very strong country. And they said that we have to work on this plan and they will pressure on both sides.
01:41Of course, we wanted them to be more on our side, but OK, mediator than mediator.
01:47And they began to pressure both sides and we supported the ideas.
01:52It's a little bit optimism was, in my words, because of the some speed of negotiations and from American side, the interest in it.
02:05It showed that America is not withdrawing now from any kind of diplomatic way of dialogue.
02:12And it's good. And it's been that they gave us a signal. So it's about negotiations.
02:19If you are ready, we will work. They've got these signals from us.
02:24But this is where we are. I mean, for me, it's nothing new. The words of Putin, not new.
02:30But we have to hope. Not just hope. We hope and work. Hardly work each day.
02:38And we hope, of course, because we want peace. That's why it's optimism.
02:43I think this is realism. We need to bring peace closer.
02:48Yes, we tried our best and it worked. And it works still.
02:53I'm very thankful to your country. You're one of these best hour friends. Thank you.
