Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Changemaker for Trusted Journalism and Public Engagement (Asia Pacific)

Few journalists have shaped Asia’s business media landscape as profoundly as Bernard Lo. With a career spanning more than three decades, Bernie is a pioneering television news anchor and talk show host who has consistently elevated standards for integrity, insight, and public trust in journalism. He played a pivotal role in the launch of CNBC Asia in the 1990s, helping NBC expand into the Asia-Pacific market during the early days of cable and satellite TV, and later contributed to Bloomberg Television’s rise as a leading business news network.

As a lead anchor and host of flagship programs including Squawk Box, The Call, Straight Talk with Bernie Lo, and Asia Confidential, Bernie has delivered incisive analysis and conducted interviews with some of the world’s most influential leaders — from Bill Gates and George Soros to heads of state and CEOs shaping global markets. His work has consistently demonstrated the critical role of media in fostering transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making, embodying the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.

Bernie’s expertise extends beyond broadcasting. He is a sought-after conference moderator and event host, having led high-profile gatherings such as the World Economic Forum, Asian Financial Forum, and CLSA and Credit Suisse investor conferences. Over hundreds of engagements, he has cultivated dialogue across business, policy, and social sectors, bridging information and insight to empower communities, investors, and institutions.

In 2015, Bernie faced a life-altering spinal injury following a failed surgery. Despite enduring severe pain and multiple operations, he remained committed to his work at CNBC until 2021.

00:00Hello, everybody. Greetings from Hong Kong. My name is Bernard Lowe. Frankly, I was really
00:09pleasantly surprised, privileged, and humbled to learn that I was selected as one of the icons of
00:15Change International awardees for the year 2025. The awards honor those who contributed in
00:23leadership, innovation, and social transformation. I've spent over half my life, 35 years, three and a
00:31half decades, as a multiple international award-winning TV anchor and talk show host. This
00:38year, I've begun a new chapter in my life in conference hosting, motivational speaking, and
00:45executive media training, drawing on my long experience in media. This year's awards coincide
00:52with the United Nations International Year of Peace and Trust in support of Sustainable
00:58Development Goals, or SDGs. This initiative seeks to champion peace, good governance, inclusive
01:07progress, and sustainable nation building. Now, of course, this year in 2025, we've faced enormous
01:15challenges geopolitically, but together, we will take and face those challenges, face on, and
01:24we will win, and we will overcome. Thank you.
