00:00Hello, everyone. My name is Pauline Lee, and I am coming to you from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
00:05Thank you so much. I am so humbled and so honored to be named one of 2025's Icons of Change Award recipients.
00:13And thank you to those who nominated me and for believing in the power of storytelling.
00:18When we produced Vietnam 50 years later, it wasn't just about revisiting history.
00:23It was about reclaiming it. It was about honoring the lived experiences of our Southeast Asian communities, the Vietnamese, Hmong, Lao, Cambodian.
00:34They're stories that are often condensed into paragraphs or maybe a chapter of an American history book.
00:41These stories are stories of war and displacement, yes, but they are also stories of resilience, rebuilding and deep cultural pride.
00:49This year's theme, the International Year of Peace, feels especially powerful because peace isn't just a global goal.
00:57It's a personal one as well. It's about healing generational trauma.
01:00It's about giving a voice to those who have been silenced.
01:04And it's about creating a space where communities are seen, heard and valued.
01:10I truly believe that storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to advance peace and justice.
01:16It's how we build empathy.
01:18It's how we move towards the kind of world that is rooted in equity and inclusion and dignity for everyone.
01:25I share this award with every single person who trusted us with their stories and every partner who stood by me in this project and every viewer who opened their hearts to listen.
01:37Thank you for this recognition and thank you for reminding all of us that change begins with truth and truth begins with a story.
