00:00Violeta, shh, I'm recording for GQ.
00:04The dog is excited because I'm doing the essentials for GQ of course.
00:08Violeta, shh!
00:10What's up GQ, I'm Camilo and these are my 10 essentials.
00:20So I'm gonna start with this one, this is my journal.
00:22This is the first thing I do every morning in my life.
00:25Like I really need to write about what I'm feeling, how do I feel inside of my heart, you know.
00:32What I'm trying to fix in me, my projects, my dreams.
00:37When I go 3 or 4 or 5 years back in my old journals and I read what I was feeling when I was about to release let's say my first song.
00:46And to remember that I'm feeling the same exact thing now and how can I like...
00:51Like I don't want to repeat myself, I want to know myself so I can improve myself.
00:56Like I finish one of these every let's say like 2 months and I have them all.
01:01Like in my labor I have like hundreds, like maybe a hundred I think so.
01:06So this is my journal journal, like what I'm feeling everyday.
01:09But I have like a prayer journal, what I'm having like in my heart and I'm like revisiting everyday.
01:14I have a song writing journal, which is another different one.
01:18I have a vision journal, where I like write what I'm dreaming about and revisit everyday so I can like...
01:29That's a huge thunder.
01:31Second essential.
01:35For sure my guitar.
01:36This is not actually a guitar, this is a guitar Lele.
01:39I'm always traveling with a different instrument.
01:41Not only because it's travel size, but because I wanna get uncomfortable with my song writing.
01:49Like when I'm writing always and just with the guitar, maybe I'm gonna start repeating stuff and going for the same chords that I love.
01:57But traveling with a different instrument is like a challenge for me.
02:01So I can start like following like a sound that I like, right?
02:06And then I start like improvising stuff beyond words, beyond melody.
02:18I'm not saying anything, but it sounds great.
02:20And I like it.
02:21I mean, I like it.
02:23Boom.
02:24This is essential.
02:27If you have a mustache, this is essential for you.
02:31I've been trying every mustache wax in the world.
02:35But the only one that works is the beast wax.
02:37I love it.
02:38I cannot live without it.
02:39I have to take it with my nail and then I have to warm it up, right?
02:44Like I have to do this a hundred of times.
02:46And when it's like really warm, you can put it there.
02:50And then when it gets cold again, your mustache is where it should be, right?
02:56So I've been in the position where I lose my mustache wax and I don't know what to do.
03:00So since that moment, everybody that is around me has one.
03:04My wife has a mustache wax.
03:06My manager has one in the car, in the guitar, in the nylon guitar, in the ukulele, my photographer.
03:12Everybody has one because if I lose this and I don't have it, I cannot fix it.
03:16My mustache inspiration would be Pancho Villa.
03:21His mustache was on point.
03:24Dali mustache was a little thinner and way longer.
03:28But Pancho Villa was like kind of this mustache.
03:31He's my mustache inspiration.
03:34This is essential for me.
03:37Kindle.
03:38The thing with the Kindle is that at the beginning I was holding myself from having it
03:43because I'm a huge fan of real books and I read a lot.
03:46But the thing is when you travel all the time with seven books, it's like exhausting.
03:52A thunder.
03:54A thunder.
03:55We're in the middle of the Dominican Republic.
03:58A lot of thunders.
03:59Like of course there's books that I don't want to have here because I want to have them like
04:03and smell de las hojas.
04:05How do you say las hojas?
04:06Like the pages, right?
04:07I love that.
04:08But this is awesome.
04:10So another essential.
04:15Bees, honey.
04:16My parents are beekeepers.
04:18That's their main thing in their lives, you know, beekeeping.
04:22And my life was all around bees.
04:25That's why I have a bee here.
04:27And so honey is like part of my life.
04:29Like every day I'm using it for something different from a scrub.
04:32Like if I'm feeling bad with my throat and whatever, honey, you know, like that's part of who I am.
04:38This is my sister brand.
04:40So we all like in my family love honey.
04:43It's part of our lives.
04:45My yoga man.
04:49To be honest, this is not my yoga man.
04:52Like I'm gonna do yoga every day.
04:54But I just like look for one.
04:56And most of the times in the hotels, they don't have yoga mats or some don't have.
05:01And I do it with a towel.
05:03I've been practicing Ashtanga yoga for at least, I think like eight years ago.
05:09When I started meditating, when I started breathing with conscience.
05:14It's about a philosophy of life, of unity.
05:18Me as an artist, I'm part of a very stimulating industry with a lot of ups and downs, you know.
05:24You should have a practice and a discipline that brings you down to earth and to connect with who you really am.
05:32That is not the charts, the songs, the concerts, the sold outs, but that that is inside of you.
05:39And yoga brings me back to that, you know.
05:43So a very important part of my life too.
05:46And a very essential part.
05:50It's my jewelry.
05:51Like my earrings, my necklaces.
05:55Like I don't use them just for how they look.
05:59Like every one of them holds like a part of my journey and my story, you know.
06:05Like I was telling you guys, this and the bee is part of like the, like el emblema.
06:10Like the picture of my family.
06:12Beekeeping honey bees, you know.
06:14Let's say this says why.
06:16And I have it, it's my brother-in-law.
06:18And it's talk about my why.
06:20And every time I see it, I remember why I'm doing what I'm doing, you know.
06:24My earring.
06:25Every little thing that is like hanging in my earring holds a little story, you know.
06:30Like of a very important dinner that I had with my wife that I really remember.
06:35The first gift that my brothers-in-law gave me when we started writing together.
06:40That was the start point of my career.
06:43The E of my wife, Eva Luna.
06:47And she has a C and I have an E so we feel like we're together with that.
06:52I don't know.
06:53It doesn't mean that we are more together because of that.
06:57But it's like a reminder, you know.
06:59It's beautiful.
07:00My wedding ring.
07:01I mean, it's just a ring or not.
07:03It's like a reminder of a beautiful and spiritual and mystical bond that you have with the most important person of your life.
07:09Every little detail that I wear in my body means something.
07:16It carries a message and a part of who I am.
07:20Not only aesthetic wise, but storytelling wise.
07:25Right?
07:26So another one.
07:27Coconut oil.
07:29I love coconut oil.
07:31And I use it for everything.
07:33Like, I mean, it's part of my daily life in different aspects.
07:37In the shower, I use it.
07:38When you have to do like a scrub, you use it.
07:43In the shakes.
07:44Like if I'm in a very dry place, I use this as a moisturizer.
07:49When you do coffee and coconut oil and you shake it, like in a blender, like it's kind of like a latte.
07:55Me and my wife, we use it for everything.
07:58So, peppermint essential oil.
08:04This is very important.
08:05And it's always in my bag, in my backpack, in my mochila, with me all the time.
08:12Because we use it every day.
08:14For everything.
08:15If you have headache, dolor de cabeza, mint.
08:18If you're dizzy, this is the best.
08:21Like in the lengua, boom.
08:23Little drop, and that's it.
08:24If you have like a cold or like difficulty with breathing, we use it all the time.
08:30We use it for the inhalers, the vaporizer, the little things that like, like the spa things.
08:37For massages, in the candles, in the tea, for everything.
08:41This is like our medicine every day.
08:45This is essential for me too.
08:48My pintura de uñas.
08:49My nail paint.
08:51In my nails, I have a little dot in every one of them.
08:54Like I used it once to remind myself of, like I love the poetry in the image of God creating us from the dust.
09:05You know?
09:06From the floor.
09:07From nothing.
09:08Like from nothing special at all.
09:10And it's exactly the spirit, the breathing, the ruah, they say in the Hebrew culture.
09:17The ruah that made us unique and special.
09:20But it's a beautiful reminder that yes, we are divine.
09:23But yes, we are nothing.
09:25Dust.
09:26And that's a reminder of that.
09:28I used it once.
09:29And when I tried to take it out, like I felt like naked.
09:33Like when you're lacking something, like, oh my God, I need this.
09:35And I did it again.
09:36And since that moment, like three years ago, I haven't stopped.
09:41And my hands are all the time in camera, in the scene, in the guitar, in the spot, you know?
09:48And I want every little detail and corner of my person to share a message, you know?
09:54What you wear, what you share, what you, your hair, your face, your eyes, your manos.
10:02They're sharing a message all the time.
10:04I'm a very passionate person about the impression that you make on people.
10:09So, to be honest, I haven't thought about doing anything else because this is part of who I am.
10:15Thank you guys so much for checking out my essentials.
10:25I'm Camilo.
10:26Thank you for having me here and see you next time.
10:28Ciao.
10:29La Tribu.
