Sonny & Doug Sum Pear — Sum Pear 1971 (USA, Psychedelic Rock)
The first, only, and rare album by the creative duo of singer Doug Miller and multi-instrumentalist Sonny Hahn. Released on the small label Euphoria in a very limited edition. The themes and sound are a bizarre mix of eccentric British psychedelia, folk, and hard rock. Lyrics: Vietnam, drugs, etc. In 1977, Guinness released this album under the band name "Sonny & Doug" and with the title "Sum Pair" and a different cover, making it even rarer than the original...1971 is a curious moment to rock history. In my opinion 1971's reach the maximum blend of the 60's sound and the new 70's sound that emerge. Sum Pear's sound reflect this. Rural hippie psych rock with more sofisticated and developed ideas in instrumental parts, not as virtuoses but in a good sense for arrangements in a expressive result. There some intense moments, like Bring Home America, and other more reflexive folk moments. A retrospective to psychedelic tendencies with a view in the new and superbous sound of 70's. Satisfaction garanted.Ronaldors Dec 03 2011 Five years later the album reappears on Guinness. Same track listing, but different song sequence and as you can see new artwork. So what's the common denominator here? Producer Bob Gallo and 'album coordinator' Louis Lofredo. Wonder if these guys were aware that they'd been reissued ...
